Hardware setup 9 3. Pick up and raise the SIM card holder in an upright position. 4. Hold the SIM car d over the SIM car d holder ready for insertion. Make sur e you hold the SIM car d so that the side with the metal contacts will face down when you close the SIM card holder .
10 Hardware setup 6. Lower the SIM car d holder with the SIM card in it to close it. P ush the SIM card holder in the dir ection of the arrow (as sho wn in the figure to the right) to lock it. Batter y installation 1. The battery goes into the battery compartment in the back of the phone.

12 Hardware setup • Before using the battery for the first time, make sure that it is charged for at least eight hours to prolong its lifetime. • It takes at least one charging -discharging cycle for the battery to reach its peak performance.
Startup 13 Star tup First-time startup After y ou hav e installed the battery and finished charging it, you are read y to powe r ON your PD A phone. The first time y ou power ON the phon e, you will be guided through a series of setup screens. F ollow the steps belo w to start up your phone and c omplete the initial setup .
14 Startup Us i n g t h e s t y l u s The stylus works like a mouse on a PC. Y ou ca n use the stylus to point and click various objects on the screen. The following are basic st ylus techniq ues you should learn in order t o operate your PD A phone efficie ntly .
Startup 15 Soft reset A soft reset restarts the PD A phone but does no t erase an y data, program, or system settings. T o perform a soft reset: 1. Locate the recessed Reset at the bott om of the phone. 2. Insert the sty lus into the rec ess to trigger Reset .
16 Startup Clean boot A clean boot restarts the PD A phone by erasing all data and programs as well as system settings, and thus returns to its factory default state. T o per form a clean reset: 1. Locate the rec essed Reset at the bottom of the PD A phone.
Today screen 17 To d a y s c r e e n To d a y s c r e e n The T oday screen is the home screen of your PD A phone. Y ou will enter the T oday screen after y ou hav e completed the first-time startu p procedur e.
18 Today screen N a vigation bar The navigation bar is located at the top of the scr een. It contains the Start button, various system icons, and (if y ou hav e a program open) the OK or X button to close the pr ogram window . The following figure sho ws the various components of the navigation bar .
Today screen 19 Start button The Start button is located on the navigation bar . When you tap the Start button, the Start drop-do wn menu appears, showing a list of pr ograms and utilities. The figure below sho ws the various components of the Start menu.
20 Today screen M enu bar The menu bar is located at the bottom of the sc r een. It contains men u names (related t o the currently opened program), the Input P anel (if the currently opened pr ogram requires text input), and several indicator and shortcut icons such as W ireless LAN.
Input methods 21 Input methods The PD A phone has a number of input methods t o choose from. W hen using the phone function, simply use the QWER TY keyboard to enter the phone number then press the Send key .
22 Input methods U sing the I nput P anel When y ou open a program that suppor ts text in put, you will see the In put P anel icon appear on the menu bar . Input P anel giv es y ou a number of ways t o enter t ext by either tapping on a virtual keyboard on the screen or scribbling to a handwritin g recognition tool.
Input methods 23 Letter Recogn izer Letter R ecognizer is a handwriting recognition t ool that allo ws you t o handwrite one letter at a time while it con verts it into typed letter . 1. T ap the arro w next to Input P anel, and then tap Letter Recognizer .
24 Input methods Wr i t i n g o n t h e s c r e e n In an y program that accepts writing such as N otes, you can use y our stylus to write directly on the screen. W rite the way y ou do on paper . Y ou can edit and format what you ha ve written and con vert the information to text at a la ter t ime.
Input methods 25 Con v erting w r iting to text Ta p Menu > T ools > Recognize . If y ou want to con v ert only certain words, tap Menu > Draw to disable the Draw mode first. Then select these words and ta p Menu > T ools > Recognize . (or tap and hold the selected wor ds and then tap Recognize on the pop-up menu).
26 Input methods Drawing on the screen Y ou can draw on the screen in the same wa y that you write on the screen. The difference betw een wr iting and drawing on the screen is how y ou select items and ho w they can be edited. For e xample, selected drawings can be resized, while writing cannot.
Settings 27 Settings Y ou can customise how y our PD A phone looks and beha ves b y changing its internal settings. Ta p S tart > Settings , and the n tap a tab ( Personal , System , or Connections ) at the bottom to select an item and its options.
28 Settings Inpu t This option lets you set the default input me thod in I nput P anel. Y ou can also configur e various input settings such as whether to use la rge or small keys for soft keyboard and other details. Lock This option lets you enable a passw ord lock on your PD A phone if it is left unused for a certain time.
Settings 29 Phone This option lets you t o change phone settings from four tabs: • Phone • Serv ices • Netw ork • Mo re 1. Phone lets you change settings lik e the ty pe of ringtone, the tone of ringtone, keypad dial setting, and securit y on your PD A phone.
30 Settings From the same scr een, choose the Notifications tab to change what sounds are associat ed with var ious system events. T o change vo lume, press the Sound lev el buttons on the left of your PD A phone or tap on the N avigation bar .
Settings 31 Y ou also have the o ption of selecting a JPG or GIF image as a background skin for your devi ce. T o do this, check Use this picture as the background and then tap Browse to se le ct an image file (ex cept those on the memory card).
32 Settings • Y ou can also turn off the backlight by long pressing Power . T o resume, long press Power again to turn on the backlight. • T o save more power , you can press Power to put the PDA phone in to sleep mode. Pressing Power will turn on the phone again.
Settings 33 On the More tab, y ou can decide whether to sho w th e clock on the title bar in an y program. Dev ice Info This option shows y our device informatio n such as CPU ty pe, memor y and monitor .
34 Settings The Running Programs option shows y ou the currently running programs. By tapping Activate , you will bring the highlig hted program to the foreground so that y ou can begin work on it immediately . If you tap Stop , the highlighted program w ill be terminated.
Settings 35 Re m ov e Pr o g ra ms This options lets you remov e a program from the PD A phone. T o do so, select a program, and then tap Remove . • Y ou can only remove programs you have installed on the storage memory . • Programs that came pre-installed on your PDA phone cannot be removed.
36 Settings Setting up Bluetooth® 1. T ap Menu > Bluetooth Settings in the Wireless Manager screen, or tap St art > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth .
Settings 37 9. The Beam window appears, listing all available neighbouring devices ready to r eceiv e a beam. T ap the name of a Bluet ooth® device to begin sending.
38 Settings Connec tions The PD A phone can be ve r y easily configur ed to access the I nternet or a corporate network t o perform tasks such as browsing the W orld W ide W eb , sending e-mail or exc hanging instant messages with fr iends and co-work ers.
Settings 39 Setting up a GPRS and CSD connection to y our ISP Y ou can connect via modem dial-up to your ISP (Int ernet Serv ice Pr ovider), and use the connection to send and r eceiv e e-mail message s and view W eb or W AP pages. Y our ISP is usually your SIM card provider .
40 Settings 4. Enter an y authentication information your ISP requests. Y ou should not need to change any settings in Advanced , because most ISPs now use a dynamic IP address. 5. T ap Finish . 42 Settings Setting up a VPN connection to y our corporate network W ith a V irtual Private Netw ork ( VPN) connection, you can c onnect to a server in your corporate network via the Internet.
Settings 43 GPRS A uthentication This area lets y ou select a GPRS authentica tion method (P AP or CHAP authentication). Please consult y our GPRS serv ice pro vid er to determine an appr opriate value. U sing WLAN WLAN lets your PD A phone connect to the In ternet, your VPN, or another WLAN-enabled device via a w ireless acc ess point.
44 Settings Adding a new wireless network Y ou can add a new wireless network to the listbox. 1. On the Configure Wireless Networks screen, tap Add New . 2. Enter a name in Network name . 3. Ne xt to Connect s to , select where this new netw ork wil l connect to ( The Internet or Work ).
Phone operation 45 Phone operation The PD A phone contains featur es you w ould ex pect fr om a high-end mobile phone. Y ou can use your PD A phone t o make and r eceiv e phone calls and send and receiv e SMS (Short M essage Serv ice) and MMS (M ultimedia M essage Service) messages.
46 Phone operation Answering a call When y ou recei ve a phone call, the phone rings or vibr ates and a message will appear on the screen. Pr ess Send or tap Answer t o answer the call. (Alternativ ely , you can cancel the call and ringing by pressing End or tap Ignore .
Phone operation 47 Making a speed dial call Speed dialling allows you to mak e a call with a single tap of your stylus. The default first speed dial entry is your voice mail. Making a speed dial call In the Phone screen, tap Menu > S peed Dial to displa y a list of available speed dial entries.
48 Phone operation Loudspeaker T urn the loudspeaker on and c ontinue your c on v ersation while using ot her phone functions. This is a great feature for allo wing your colleagues t o participate in your call. 1. First make a phone call. 2. T ap , Menu > T urn Speakerphone On , or long press Send to turn on the speakerphone function.
Phone operation 49 Associating not es with cal ls Call notes ar e integrated into Notes as well as the call log. A new folder named Calls will be created when the first in-call note is made. Y ou can now create a call note. 1. During a phone call, tap or Menu > Create Note .
50 Phone operation Flight mode 1. T ap the W ireless item on the To d a y screen (or tap on the Navigation bar and then tap Wireless Manager ). 2. T ap to the right of the Phone item to set the Phone mode to Off . If you want t o make a phone call, please turn off the flight mode.

54 Programs Conta cts Contact s maintains a list of y our friends and coll eagues so that you can easily find the information you are looking for , whether you are at home or on the r oad. Y ou can enter both personal and business information such as pi cture, ringtone and co mpany name.
Programs 55 Setting up an MMS connection There are tw o ways of setting up an MMS c onnection. T o set up an MMS connection automatically: 1. T ap S tart > Settings > Connections > Connection Settings . 2. Select your region, mobile phone service provider and serv ice ty pe.

Programs 57 Ex cel M obile Y ou can use Excel Mobile much the same way y ou use Ex cel on y our PC. Y ou can enter formulas and functions, and then filter data to see the subset of information you want. Split panes to view different parts of a worksheet at the same time.
58 Programs Mo d e m L in k Modem Link is a program that lets you set up modem settings and activate a modem conn ec ti on . T o launch Modem Link, tap S tart > Programs > Modem Link . No t e s Notes helps you q uickly capture y our ideas, note s and thoughts.
