3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES This symbol point s out important safety instructions , which if not followed, co uld endanger the perso nal safety and/or proper ty of yourself and others. Re ad and follow all instructi ons in this manual before attempting to operate this machine.
4 4. Never operate with a missing or damaged discharge chute. Keep all safety de vices in place and workin g. 5. Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas. 6. Do not ope rate machine while u nder the infl uence of alcohol or drugs.
5 SECTION 2: LOOSE PARTS The snow thrower is shipped wit h following loose parts in th e carton. Plea se remove all loose parts from the carton before discardi ng it. See Figure 1 to identify the par ts noting that these parts may be refe rred to again in the following sections of this manual.
6 Attaching Chute Directional Contr ol For packaging purposes, the two-piece chute directional cont rol was attac hed to the snow t hrower on the two ends, but was kept loose at th e middle. Assemble as follows: • Remove the hairpin clip from the chute directional control.
7 SECTION 4: KNOW YOUR SNOW THROWER WARNING: B e familiar with all the controls on the snow throwe r and their proper operation. Kn ow how to stop the machine and disengage them quickly. Auger Control The auger drive clutch is locate d on the left handle.
8 Figure 6 SECTION 5: OPERATING YOUR SNOW THROWER Before Starting WARNING: Read, understand, and follow all instructions and wa rnings on th e machine and in this manual befor e operating. Gas And Oil Fill-up • Check oil level and add oil if necessary.
9 • If your home electrical system is grounded, but a three-hole receptacle is not availab le, one should be installed by a licensed electrician before using the electric starter . • If you have a grounded th ree-prong receptacle, proceed as follows: • Connect power co rd to switch box on engine.
10 • In a well-ventilated area, start the snow thrower engine as instr ucted earlier in this sect ion under the heading Starting Engine . Make sure the throttle is se t in the FAST posit ion. • While standing in the ope rator’s position (behind the snow thrower) en gage the auger.
11 Operating T ips NOTE: Allow the engine to w arm up for a few minutes as the engine will not develop full pow er until it reaches operating t emperature. WARNING: Muffler, engine an d surrounding areas becom e hot and can caus e a burn. Do not touch.
12 Shift Rod Adjustment To adjust t he shift rod , proceed as follows. • Remove the hairpin clip and slide the connector up to separate the up per shift rod from the lower shift rod. See Figure 11. • Place shift lever in the sixth (6) Forw ard position.
13 SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR SNOW THROWER Lubrication WARNING: Before lubricating, repairing, or inspecting, disengag e all clutch levers and stop engine. Wait until all movin g parts have come to a complete stop. Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to prevent unint ended starti ng.
14 Shave Plate and Skid Shoes The shave plate and skid shoe s on the bottom of the snow throwe r are subje ct to wear. They shou ld be checked pe riodically and r eplaced w hen necess ary. To remove the skid shoes, pr oceed as follows: • Remove the four carriage bolts, bell washers and hex nuts which attach them to the snow th rower.
15 • Slip belt between friction wheel and friction wheel disc. See Figu re 18. Remove and rep lace belt. Figure 18 • Reassemb le following the instr uctions in revers e order. NOTE: The support bra cket must rest on t he stop bolt after the new bel t has been assembled.
16 Off-season Storage WARNING: Never store t he machine or fuel container indo ors where there is an open flame, spark or pilot light such as on a water heater, furna ce, clothes dryer or other gas appliances.
17 SECTION 9: TROUBLESHOOTING Pr oblem Cause Remedy Engine fails to start 1. Fuel tank empty, or stale fuel present in gas tank. 2. Blocked fuel lin e. 3. Choke no t in ON po sition 4. Faulty spark plug . 5. Safety key not in ignition switch on engine.
