If your networks are isolated from the Internet, for insta nce , only between your two branch offices, you can assign any IP addresses to th e hosts without problems.

Many screens that are available in Router Mode are not available in AP Mode . Note: See Chapter 6 on page 61 for an example of setting up a wireless network in AP mode.

You can hide the SSID instead, in which ca se the AP does not broadcast the SSID. In addition, you should change the defaul t SSID to somet hing that is difficult to guess.

Chapter 8 WAN NBG-417N User’s Guide 101 WAN MAC Address The MAC address screen allo ws users to co nfigure the WAN port's MAC address by either using the factory default or clon ing the MAC address from a computer on your LAN. Choose Factory Default to select the factory assigned default MAC Address.
Chapter 8 WAN NBG-417N User’s Guide 102 8.3.3 NetBIOS over TCP/IP NetBIOS (Network Basic Input /Output Sy stem) are TCP or UDP broadcast packets that enable a computer to connect to and communicate with a LAN. For some dial- up services such as PPPoE or PPTP, Net BIOS packets cause unwanted calls.

The screen differs according to the encaps ulation you choose. 8.4.1 Ethernet Encapsulation This screen displays when you select Ethernet encapsulation.
Chapter 8 WAN NBG-417N User’s Guide 104 8.4.2 PPPoE Encapsulation The NBG-417N supports PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet). PPPoE is an IETF standard (RFC 2516) specifyi ng how a personal computer (PC) interacts with a broadband modem (DSL, cabl e, wireless, etc.
