5 Intr oduction The UTI 1 Paging System is a paging and signaling system. The system provides the f ollowing f eatures and functions: V oice Channel • Single-zone paging • T elephone interfaces: -.
Installation W all Mounting Mounting to a plyw ood backboard or studs: 1 . Hold the unit lev el against the surface to which it will be mounted. 2. Mark where the mounting scr ews should be positioned. 3. Set the unit aside and install the scre ws leaving about 1 / 4 " of the scr ews sticking out of the surface.
T elephone Interface Wiring Connections & Setup T elephone System Connections The UTI 1 connects to virtually any telephone system: PBX station lines and CO lines, PBX loop star t trunk por ts, PBX ground start trunk ports, and page ports.
8 PBX Gr ound Start T runk P ort In this configuration, the unit supplies 24V talk batter y , a contact in the Tip circuit, and loop curr ent detector in the ring line. When the ground start trunk grounds Ring, the unit r esponds by closing the connection to Tip, which completes the access procedur e .
9 PBX P age P or t V O X In this configuration, the unit activates when audio on the page input is detected. Loss of audio allows the VO X timer to expire and ends the page. Mak e sure that the po w er is disconnected and all other connections are completed bef or e pr oceeding.
10 Over ride Input The Over ride is a non-pr ogrammable featur e that lets the caller tak e priority over all paging functions and mak e a page to all speak ers. The feature can be activated using a loop start trunk or dedicated telephone. The center two conductors interface dir ectly to a Loop Star t T runk or a dedicated phone .
11 Other Connections Night Ringer The UTI 1 night ringer signaling featur e is designed to alert personnel to incoming calls after normal business hours.The feature is activated b y a contact closure fr om the PBX. The night ringer normally sounds a simulated ring tone, but can be programmed to sound a chime tone.
12 Contr ols P aging Le v el The UTI 1 has contr ols for adjusting the audio lev el of each output independently . These ser ve as master le vel contr ols that allow for o verall system contr ol. Setting the initial volume to half is a good starting point.
13 T ones Pre-Announce/Conf irmation T one This tone can be set to be heard at the speak ers being paged or the calling telephone or both. It is either a chime or beep (default). The pre-announce/conf irmation tone can also be inhibited. See System Progr amming to change or inhibit this tone.
14 System Pr o gramming System programming lets y ou set cer tain UTI 1 options and tone features using the DTMF k eys of a telephone. All programming is accomplished thr ough the Override jack on the UTI 1 . T o program the UTI 1 system, follow these instructions: 1 .
15 AUX Rela y Contact The UTI 1 allows the installer to pr ogram a number of different parameters to contr ol the way in which the A UX rela y contacts activate.
16 Example 1 : Emergency T one/Emergency Announcement Bypass The tone trigger and override inputs are used to pro vide emergency tones and live emergenc y announcements and when this happens any local attenuators are to be bypassed to ensure that emerg ency announcements can be heard.
