13 G ETTING Y OUR H EADSE T R EADY FOR U SE Preparing to use battery power The batter y compartment o n your heads et control model serv es two purposes. In additio n to holding the batter ies, it contains small switches ( Figure 9 ) that give you the option to change some of the factory-set o peration def aults for y our headset.
14 G ETTING Y OUR H EADSET R EADY FOR U SE Inserting batteries Insert the two supplied alkaline AA batteries (IEC LR 6) into the control module ( Figur e 10 ). 16 G ETTING Y OUR H EADSET R EADY FOR U SE Details on making the connections The pinout for the opt ional installe d connector is: 1 Red Headset power (10-3 2 VDC). Use a 1 / 4 -amp fuse or a 1 / 2 -amp circuit breaker . 2 Black System ground. Conn ect to the existing audio gr ound.
17 G ETTING Y OUR H EADSE T R EADY FOR U SE Notes For use with a stereo intercom, connect the left and right chann els to their respective positions. For monaural operation , connect pins 3 & 4 togethe r to the tip of the exist ing phon e jack. Do not use exces sive for ce or bend the inst alled connector .

19 U SING Y OUR H EADSET W earing it properly Prope r fit on your head is important bot h for comfort and good noise redu ction performa nce. Her e ar e a few guidelines: • Use the left (L) and right (R) markings above the ear cups to orie nt the headset properly ( Fig ure 16 ).
20 U SING Y OUR H EADSET Microphone placement Proper microphone placement is important fo r clear communic a - tions. With t he headset on y our head, make t hese adjustments: 1. Grasp th e boom with your fingers and move the microphone up or down so it is le vel with your mouth ( Figure 17 ).
21 U SING Y OUR H EADSET Power button Use the power button to tur n the he adset on or off, or to chan ge the LED brightness (Figure 18). • Press the power bu tton once to tur n on ANR. • Pr ess and hold the power butt on to turn off ANR. Or rely on the smart shutoff feature (descibed on pa ge page 13 ).
22 U SING Y OUR H EADSET Holding the contro l module upright and facin g you: • Use the left kn ob to adjust volume in the left earcup. • Use the righ t knob to adjust volume in the rig ht earcup. Controlling the volume of a si ngle battery powered headset With ANR on: 1.

25 H EADSET C ARE AND M AINTENANCE Instructions for continued airworthiness Bose recommends following the g eneral care and maintenan ce instructions in this guide. With n ormal use, ite ms such as win d - screens and ear cushions may requir e periodic replacement.
26 H EADSET C ARE AND M AINTENANCE Ear cushions As a general rule, ea r cushions should be r eplaced a fter 500 hour s of use, depending on how often you fly .
27 H EADSET C ARE AND M AINTENANCE Headband cushion 1. Remove the c ushion as described in “Headband cushion replacement” on page 29 . 2. Place the c ushion in a solut ion of water an d a mild detergent. 3. Allow the cushion to air dry , then, reattach.
28 H EADSET C ARE AND M AINTENANCE 3. Properly position the replacement ear cushion against the earcup. 4. T uck an edge of the ear cu shion skirt into th e slot behind the ear cushion flan ge. Be careful not t o fold the skirt over . 5. W ork the remainder of the skirt into the slot complet ely around the earcup.
29 H EADSET C ARE AND M AINTENANCE Battery door replacement 1. Slide the battery door down using the fing er indent and lift open. 2. Gently rota te the cover sideways to r emove fr om the contr ol module. 3. Insert new door tab, being ca reful to insert between the metal spring and p lastic hous ing.
30 T ROUBLESHOOTING In case of difficulty Look for the pr oblem in the left column of the table, then follo w the instruction s on “What to do” in the righ t column. If t he prob lem per - sists, contact the Bose ® Aviation Headset Department, u sing the contact infor mation on page 34 of this guide, fo r assistan ce.
