1 INTR ODUCTION The B OXLIGHT ® CD-454m™, CD-455m ™ and CD-5 55m™ multi- media projectors ar e specifically des igned for multipurpos e use. They generat e crisp, clear images usin g Digit al Light Process- ing™ (DLP) technology . They are eas y to connect, easy to use, easy to transport, and easy to maintain.

7 SETTING UP THE PR OJECTOR 1 Place the pr ojector on a flat surface. • The pr ojector must be within 10 feet (3 m) of your power source a nd within 6 feet (1.8 m) of your computer . • If you want to project fr om behind a translucent screen, set up the pr ojector behind your scre en.
8 Setti ng up the Pr ojector NO TE : Befor e you continue , mak e sure the p rojector and all other equipment is turned o ff. If you’ re connecting a computer , mak e sure the distance be tw een it and the pr ojector is 6 f eet or less.
9 Connecting a Computer The pr ojector ships with an analog computer cable. If your com- puter has a digi tal outp ut, you can order the opti onal di gital com- puter cable for use wi th the CD-455m and CD-555m only . 1 Plug the end of the computer cable with one cable into the connector on the pro jector .
10 Setti ng up the Pr ojector Do you want to c ontrol the comp uter ’ s mou se from the projecto r’ s re mote or k eypad? NO TE : The USB mous e is suppor ted for us e with Windows 98, Windo ws 2000, and Apple OS 8.5 and higher only . 1 Plug the USB cable into the USB mouse connector on your computer .
11 Connec ting a Video Pla y er 1 If your video player uses a round, one-pr ong composit e video connector, you’ll need only t he audio ca ble, audio adapter , and composite video cable that shipped with the pr ojector. NO TE : HDTV source s mu st be connected to the pr ojector using the computer cable (not a com- posite or S-video cable).

14 Setti ng up the Pr ojector T urning Off the Pr ojector If you want to turn off the pr ojector for a short period of time, press the stand by button on the key pad or remote . This bl anks th e scr een for fifteen minutes, but keeps the pr ojector running.
15 USING THE PR OJECTOR This section d escribes how to use and m ake adju stments to the pro jector . It also provides a refer ence to the keypad and remote buttons and the opti ons availa ble from the on-screen menus. Basic Imag e Ad justment 1 Make sure you have powered up your equipment in the right or der (page 13) .

17 Adjusting the Pr ojector T o focus the image, rotate the focus ring (Figure 10) until the imag e is c lear . T o zoom the im age, rotate the zo om r ing .

19 Standb y When you press standb y , the display a nd audio turn of f and a blank screen is displayed for 15 minutes. Y o u can chang e the amount of time the pr ojector stays in standby mode; see “Standby T ime” on page 27 for d etails. The LED lig hts orange while the projector is in standby .

36 Mainte nance & T r oubles hooting Replacing the Batteries i n the Remote Contr ol The life of the batterie s depend s on ho w often and how long y ou use the r emote. Symptom s of low battery charge include erratic r esponses wh en using the r emote and a re du ced range of opera- tion.
37 T roubles hoo ting Pr oblem: The pr ojector is no t running • Make sure that the power cord is properly connected to a fully functional A C electrical outlet. Make sure that the power co rd is also properly connected to the projector . • If the pr ojector is plugged into a power strip, make sure the power strip is turned on.
38 Mainte nance & T r oubles hooting • Make sure your computer ’s video board is installed and con- figured corr ectly . • Make sure your computer has a com patible vide o board.
39 Pr o blem: Ima ge and menus ar e re v ersed left to right • Rear pr o jection mode is pr obably turned on. T urn Rear Projec- tion off in the Controls menu. The image should im mediately return to forward pr ojection. See “Rear Pr ojection” on page 28.
40 Mainte nance & T r oubles hooting Pr oblem: Lamp shuts off • A minor power sur ge may cause the lamp to shut of f. Unplug the pr ojector , wait at least a minute, then plug it back in. • Make sure the vents are not blocked. • Make sur e th e lamp has not been in use for o ver 2,050 hours.
