1 W elcome – Intro duction to Y o ur DSmobile ® Scanner ............. Congratulations on pur chasing a DSmobile 600 docum ent scanner! W e have de signed this product to provide you with a simple but ef fective tool to capture, manage, and arc hive documents of many t y pes.

3 If the installation do es not start automatically , please double-click t he MY COMP UT ER icon on your W indo ws desktop, and then double-click t he CD icon.
4 3. Select “Complete” (r ecommended) or “Custo m” and then click “Next”. 4. The follo wing screen will be displayed. Clic k “Install”.
5 5. When t he driver has bee n installed , the following screen will b e displayed. Con nect your scanner to a USB po rt, and click “Next”. Follow the r ecommended choices for the New Hard ware W izard.
6 V ie wing, Printing, Savi ng the User ’ s G uide 1. Click on V ie w/Print the PDF User ’ s Guide. This w ill laun ch Adob e Reader ® and displa y th e first pa ge of the Us er ’ s Guide. If this does not ha ppen, you must install Adobe Reader software as in the next sectio n.
7 PageManager 7 I nstallation At this point you may install the P ageManager 7 software. Follow the on-screen instructions to in stall PageMa nager 7. Note: After you have co mplete d all software in stallations, we strongly reco mmend that you remove the CD and restar t your co mputer even thoug h you are not r equested by W indo ws to do so.
8 UN-INSTALLING SOF TWARE If you should need to un-instal l the driver so ftware later, y o u simply insert the or iginal installation CD and r un the set up again. At this time you will b e given three o ptions. Select the REMOVE option, click NEXT , and then clic k REMOVE.
9 INSTALLING HARDWARE Do not connect t he scanner to your co mputer until instr ucted to d o so by the driver installation soft ware. When instructed to d o so, connect the scanner ca ble as shown b elow and follow the ins tructions. After you have in stalled the so ftware (Steps 1-4, p .

1 1 CALIBRATION Note: Calibratio n is critical b ecause it allows the i mage qual ity to be “balanced” for your co m puter and scanner co mbination. I f you switch t he computer that you use with your sca nner or change sca nners, you must calibrat e again.
12 This calibra tion proce ss uses the special black a nd white calib ration sheet (see pict ure on page iv) that was included with your sca nner . W hen cal ibrating, make sure the side with the black b ar is facin g do wn an d note t he directio n of the arro ws for pro per insertion.
13 USING YOUR SCANNER Please insert do cuments face d o wn. When using a W indows scan ning app lication, always press the bu tton on top of the sca nner to initiate a sca nning pr ogram. The follo w ing windo w will app ear when you p ress the butto n on the top o f the scanner .
14 SETTING A DE F AUL T P ROGRAM T o c hoose a default scanning program, just hi ghlight the pr ogram na me, click on “Always use this p rogra m for this action” and t hen click on “OK”. T he pro gram will subseque ntly automatically lau nch when you press the b utton on the top of the scanner to initiate a scan.
15 CHANGING PROGRA MS T o c ancel a default progra m, on the W indows desktop : 1. Select Start: Control P anel: Scanners and Cameras (In Category V iew , select Printers and o ther Hard ware: Scanners and Ca meras). 2. Right click o n the scanner ico n, select P rop erties, and then select E vents.
16 Note that th er e is no ‘apply’ button on this pr operties scr een , so yo u must pr ess ‘OK.’ After this pro cess, the “Select the pro gram to launch for thi s actio n” (shown abo ve) will displa y when the button o n the top o f the scanner is pr essed to initiate a pro gram.

18 SETTING ADMINISTRATOR P RIVILEGES If installation or calibratio n is not working on y o ur Macintos h system, t he solution may be in the priv ileges. W hen initiall y set up, you are given ad ministrator privileges which should allo w you to install t he DSmobile so ftware and co mplete the calibration.
19 CALIBRATION Calibration is critica l because it allo ws the image quality to be “balanced” for your computer and sca nner combin ation. I f you switch the co mputer that you use with your scanner or change scanners, you must calibrate again. Note that you must be logged in as an Ad ministrator to ca librate the syste m.
20 Calibrating your DSmobile 60 0 Scanner u sing “Image Capture.” Calibration is a critical step in setting up your scanner . It a llows the scanned color data to b e “calibrated” to your computer a nd scanner co mbination for best image quality .

28 USING YOUR SCANNER TW AIN for Apple Mac OS X Apple pro vides a software pro duct entitled “Image Capture” with Maci ntosh computers that is TW AIN compatible. A scanner driver for Ma c OS X v10.3 or higher can be do wnloaded from the Installation CD.

I f y ou append the filena me with a “%n”, t he file name is ap pende d w ith a seque ntial number beginning with 1 ( if a previo us file exists, the number is i ncre mented to the next highest number).
