3 1 Introduction Ov erview This guide des cribes the procedure for con verting the HP NetServer L H 3, LH 4, LH 3000, an d LH 6000 (pedestal con figu ration) to th e HP NetServer L H 3r, LH 4r, L H 3000r, or LH 6000r (rack- optim ized config uration).
Chapter 1 Introduction 4 5. Rem ove the plastic lock paw l (w hich eng ages and secu res the bezel lock mech anism) f rom the NetServ er chassis f ront. Unfasten the control panel from the chassis, reorien t it, and then secu re it to the chassis again.
Chapter 1 Introduction 5 WA RNING To prevent the rack enclos ure from tipping over: • Extend the anti- tip foot or verify that the an ti-tip feature is installed. • Verify that the leveler feet are low ered. • Do NOT extend more th an one piece of equi pment at a time out f rom the front of th e rack.

Disconnect th e power cord(s) to avoid expos ure to high energy levels that m ay cau se burns w hen parts are short-circu ited by m etal objects, such as tools or jew elry .

Chapter 2 Remove Bezel, Cover, and Components 14 Lighten the NetServ er Before you lif t the NetServer, remove th e hot-sw ap hard disk drives and power supply m odules. This will lighten the NetServer, so that few er people will be needed to lift it.

Rotate the NetServ er so that Cov er 1 is now on top, as show n in F igure 2-5.

19 3 Conversion: Install Components, Cover, and Front Bezel Ov erview of Conversion to Rack-Optimized Configuration To complete the conversion of the NetServ er to the rack-optimized config uration, you w ill do the following : • Install any additional memory or accessory boards.
Chapter 3 Conversion: Install Components, Cover, and Front Bezel 20 Install the Lifting Handles Install lifting handles for use w hen y ou mount the NetServer on the rack slides. The four ha ndles mount t wo to a sid e. Use the provided screws to m ount the handles, as show n in Figu re 3-1.
Chapter 3 Conversion: Install Components, Cover, and Front Bezel 21 Reorient the Control Panel The control panel must be repositioned to be easily readable in the rack- mount position. Reposition the control panel and its bezel, as follows: 1. Unscrew th e two screw s securing th e control panel to the chassis.
Chapter 3 Conversion: Install Components, Cover, and Front Bezel 22 4. Rotate the control panel until it is aligned w ith the rack position of the NetServe r, as show n in F igure 3- 3. Be careful of the ribbon cable t hat connects the control panel to the NetServ er.

Do n ot damage t he ribbon cable w ith the control panel. 6. Replace the tw o screw s to secure the con trol panel to the chas sis.

Replace Pow er Supply Modules and Hard Disk Driv es Do the follow ing to replace th e power s upply m odules an d hot-sw ap hard disk drive m odules : 1.

For the HP rack, install th e chassis reten tion bracket and secure th e NetServer to it, as follows: 1.

Each assem bly kit con tains the new front bezel for the NetServer in th e specific type of rack, as show n in Figure 3-10.

If y ou remov ed the door of the rack , replace it. 2. Reconn ect the AC pow er cord(s) and oth er external cables as des cribed in the Rack Cabling Ref erence for yo ur HP NetServer.
