Placing Originals 1-10 Introduction to Cop ying 1 Placing Originals Place your originals on the platen glass or in the f eeder , depending on the size and type of paper that you w ant to print, and the settings that you hav e speci fi ed.
Placing Originals 1-11 Introduction to Cop ying 1 Orientation Y ou can place an original either vertically or hor izontally . Alwa ys align the top edge of your original with the bac k edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top left corner), or with the back edge of the f eeder .
Placing Originals 1-12 Introduction to Cop ying 1 Platen Glass Y ou should use the platen glass when scanning bound originals (such as books and magazines), originals on heavy or lightweight paper , and transparencies into memor y . 1 Lift up the feeder .
Placing Originals 1-13 Introduction to Cop ying 1 If you are enlarging an STMT or L TR original to 11" x 17" or LGL paper , place the original horizontally on the platen glass, and align it with the STMT or L TR marks. 3 Gently lo wer the feeder .
Placing Originals 1-14 Introduction to Cop ying 1 Feeder (ADF-J1) Place a stack of originals in the f eeder , and press [Star t]. The machine automatically scans them into memor y .

IMPOR T ANT • Do not add or remo ve originals while the y are being scanned. • Do not place objects in the original output area. Blocking the paper deliv er y slot ma y damage the originals.

Interrupt Mode 1-20 Introduction to Cop ying 1 Interrupt Mode The Interrupt mode enables y ou to interr upt the reserved or current job that is printing long enough to make higher priority copies. This mode is useful if you need to make a rush cop y during a long copy job .

IMPOR T ANT Combinations of these three modes (T e xt, T ext/Photo , and Photo) cannot be set at once.

NO TE If you w ant to mak e copies at the cop y ratio of 100%, press (COPY RA TIO) ➞ (DIRECT 100%).

Changing the Copy (Zoom) Ratio 2-15 Basic Cop ying F eatures 2 3 Press [F3] (REDUCE) or [F4] (ENLARGE) to select a preset reduction or enlargement ratio ➞ press [OK]. Each time you press (REDUCE) or (ENLARGE), the next or previous menu option becomes highlighted.
Changing the Copy (Zoom) Ratio 2-16 Basic Cop ying F eatures 2 3 Set the copy ratio using the n umeric keys ➞ press [OK]. If you make a mistake when entering the value, press (Clear), and enter the correct value. If you enter a value outside the setting range, an error tone sounds.

Two-Page Separation 3-2 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 T wo-Page Separation The T wo-P age Separation mode enab les you to cop y facing pages in a book or a magazine to fi t onto separate sheets of paper .
Two-Page Separation 3-3 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 3 Press [F1] (2-P A GE SEP). 4 Press [F3] (LEFT OPENING) or [F4] (RGHT OPENING) to select the direction that the book opens ➞ press [OK].
Two-Page Separation 3-4 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 5 Press [F4] (ORIGNAL SIZE) to select the paper size ➞ press [OK]. Each time you press (ORIGNAL SIZE), the next or previous menu option becomes highlighted. The selected mode is set, and the Cop y Basic Features screen appears .
Margin Mode 3-5 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 Margin Mode The Margin mode enables y ou to make copies with the entire original image shifted by a designated width to the left, right, top , or bottom in order to create a margin on the copies. Use this mode to make copies ready f or placement in r ing binders.
Margin Mode 3-6 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 3 Press [F2] (MARGIN). 4 Press [F1] (LEFT MARGIN), [F2] (RIGHT MARGIN), [F3] (TOP MARGIN), or [F4] (BO TTOM MRGN) to specify the type of margin ➞ press [OK]. The Margin Width setting menu appears f or the margin type you selected.

Frame Erase 3-8 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 Frame Erase The F rame Er ase mode enables y ou to erase shadows and lines that appear when cop ying various types of originals.
Frame Erase 3-9 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 ■ Book Frame Erase This mode erases the dark border , as well as center and contour lines that appear when cop ying facing pages in a bound original onto a single sheet of paper . ■ Hole Punch Erase This mode erases the shadows that appear in copies from binding holes on originals.
Frame Erase 3-10 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 • If the machine is operating in the Original F rame Erase mode , you cannot use the Image Combination, or Diff erent Size Originals mode . NO TE • Y ou can set the Original F rame Er ase width from 1 to 20 mm.

The Original Size setting menu appears. 5 Press [F4] (ORIGNAL SIZE) to select the size of the book when opened ➞ press [OK].
Frame Erase 3-13 Special Cop ying F eatures 3 6 Press [F3] ( – ) or [F4] (+) to set the desired book frame erase width (3 mm to 50 mm) for the center line ➞ press [OK]. Y ou can also use the numeric keys to enter the book frame erase width, and (Clear) to clear the value.

Using Shortcut Keys 4-15 Customizing Settings 4 Using Shortcut Keys The shor tcut ke ys enable y ou to assign the most frequently used cop y functions to the shor tcut ke ys, and to call up these functions with a single k ey press when making copies. Y ou can assign up to f our copy modes to the shortcut keys .
