2 Setting Up 1 Pre paring the Printer 1 1 1 1 Place t he printer on a flat surface. 2 2 2 2 Remove the t ape from t he printe r as shown. The ta pe po sition is subject to ch ange. 3 3 3 3 Open the f ront cover and remove the ship ping material. 4 4 4 4 Close the front cover .
3 2 Connecting the Prin ter to t he Comput er Use a USB c able. Recommended : Canon or ot her comput er manufact urer cable, u p to 5 meters in lengt h. Follow th e steps be low to in stall the p rinter driver correctly . 1 1 1 1 Ensure the pri nter and the computer ar e switched of f.
4 3 Installing th e Print Head • Never attempt to plu g the power c ord into th e power outlet or unplu g the po wer cord when your hands are wet. • Never damage, mod ify , stretch, or excessi vely be nd or twis t the power cord. D o not pla ce heavy object s on the powe r cord.
5 5 5 5 5 Remove the protecti ve cap from the print head. 6 6 6 6 Place the print head in the holder . 7 7 7 7 Lock the print head into place by lowering th e lever . Do not touc h the lo ck lever once the prin t head h as be en installe d. • Do not touch the print head no zzles or electri cal contacts.
6 Installing the Ink T anks • For safety r easons, store ink tank s out of the reac h of s mall chi ldren. • Do not drop or sh ake ink tank s as this ma y cause th e ink to leak out and sta in your clothes an d hand s. 1 1 1 1 T ake out the black ink tank .
7 4 Loading Paper Loading A4 (Letter) Size Pl ain Paper 1 1 1 1 Pull out t he paper r est and th e output tray as shown. Be ca reful not t o ja m your fin ger in th e cir cular hol e of the pap er rest.
8 5 Installing th e Printer Driv er Installing the Printer Driver – W indows 1 1 1 1 Ensure th e printer and computer are switched of f. 2 2 2 2 T urn on the computer and start Windows. If any applic ations automatic ally run, quit them.
9 3 3 3 3 Place the Setup Software & User ’s Guide CD-ROM in t he CD-ROM drive. 4 4 4 4 Follow the instructi ons displayed on screen. When the screen shown on the left is displ ayed, click Install . 5 5 5 5 When the screen shown on the left appears, tur n the printer on.

If it is dif ficult to pick the best pattern o n Colum n F , pick the setting th at prod uces the least noticeab le verti cal whit e str ipes .
16 Basic Operations • If you detect smoke, un usual smell s or strange no ises around the printe r , immediat ely switch the printer o ff an d always un plug the printer . Contact yo ur local Canon service repr esentative. • T o avoid injury , neve r put your hand or fin gers inside the printer wh ile it is pri nting.
17 Basic Print Settings For t he best p rint qua lity , spec ify the m inimum require ment settings in the Main tab. T o ge t th e bes t results, ensu re you select the ty pe of media l oaded in the printer when printi ng on paper o ther than pla in paper .
