Instructions ENG EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM C OP Y.
ENG-1 Thank you for purchasing a Canon product. Canon’s EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM is a high- performance standard zoom lens, for use with EOS cameras. The lens is installed with an Image Stabilizer , and allows for close-up shooting up to a magnication of 0.
ENG-2 Safety Precautions Safety Precautions Do not look at the sun or a bright light source through the lens or camera. Doing so could result in loss of vision. Looking at the sun directly through the lens is especially hazardous. Whether it is attached to the camera or not, do not leave the lens under the sun without the lens cap attached.
ENG-3 This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
ENG-4 Nomenclature For de tailed info rmati on, refe rence pag e number s are provi ded in pare nthes es ( → **). Focus mode switch ( → 6) Distance scale ( → 12) Zoom ring ( → 6) Rubber ri.
ENG-5 1. Mounting and Detaching the Lens See your camera’s instructions for details on mounting and detaching the lens. The lens mount has a rubber ring for enhanced dust- and water-resistance. The rubber ring may cause slight abrasions around the camera’s lens mount, but this will not cause any problems.
ENG-6 2. Setting the Focus Mode 3. Zooming After autofocusing in ONE SHOT AF mode, focus manually by pressing the shutter button halfway and turning the focusing ring. (Full-time manual focus) T o shoot in autofocus (AF) mode, set the focus mode switch to AF .
ENG-7 4. Fixing the Zoom Ring The zoom ring can be xed to keep the lens at the shortest point. This function is convenient for carrying a camera on a strap because it prevents the lens from extending. 2 Slide the zoom ring lock lever in the direction indicated by the arrow .
ENG-8 5. Setting for Close-up Shooting Setting the zoom ring to macro allows for close-up shooting. Aft er the zoom ring has be en set to macr o, the zoom ring can onl y be operat ed withi n the macro rang e (indic ated by the yell ow line) .
ENG-9 6. Close-up Shooting The yellow line on the distance scale indicates the range in which image degradation is minimal during close-up shooting.* The following procedure shows how to focus within the range indicated by the yellow line in order to capture photos with high denition.
ENG-10 The magnication of this lens is determined by the combination of the following three factors: the focusing ring position, zoom ring position, and focusing distance. Therefore, the number of combinations for achieving a certain level of magnication is countless.
ENG-1 1 7. Exposure during Close-up Shooting The correct exposure for a close-up shot largely depends on the subject. Therefore, try to bracket the exposure for the same subject.
ENG-12 8. Innity Compensation Mark For accurate manual focusing of subjects at innity , look through the viewnder or look at the magnied image* on the LCD screen while rotating the focusing ring. T o compensate for shifting of the innity focus point that results from changes in temperature.
ENG-13 10. Image Stabilizer Y ou can use the image stabilizer in AF or MF mode. This function provides optimal image stabilization depending on shooting conditions (such as shooting still subjects, following shots, and close-up shooting). OFF ON The image stabilizer in this lens is effective for hand-held shots under the following conditions.
ENG-14 When shooting a still subject, it compensates for camera shake in all directions. It compensates for vertical camera shake during following shots in a horizontal direction, and compensates for horizontal camera shake during following shots in a vertical direction.
ENG-15 The magnication refers to the ratio between the subject’s size and the corresponding image size on the focal plane. 1 1. Image Stabilization during Close-up Shooting For normal close-up shooting, the higher the magnication, the faster the shutter speed must be to prevent blur caused by camera shake.
ENG-16 12. T aking Hand-held Close-ups Close-up shots are more prone to be affected by camera shake than with normal shooting. The Image Stabilizer ’s corrective effect is therefore less during close-ups than during normal shooting even with the same degree of camera shake.
ENG-17 13. Hood ●Attaching T o attach the hood, align the hood’s attachment position mark with the red dot on the front of the lens, then turn the hood as shown by the arrow until the lens’ red dot is aligned with the hood’s stop position mark.
ENG-18 16. Extension T ubes (Sold separately) 14. Filters (Sold separately) Y ou can attach extension tube EF12 II or EF25 II for magnied shots. The shooting distance and magnication are shown below . An extension tube cannot be used when the zoom ring is set to macro.
ENG-19 Specications The lens leng th is measu red from the mou nt surfa ce to the fron t end of the len s. Add 24.2 mm when inc luding the len s cap and dus t cap. The size and we ight list ed are for the lens only , except as indi cated. Ext ender s cannot be used with this lens .
