1-12 Introduction Chapter 1 Loading P aper in the Sheet Feeder The paper you load in the sheet feeder is used for printing documents or for incoming fax es. For printing documents, you can use an y of the Canon Specialty Papers described in Chapte r 2, Print ing W ith the M ultiP ASS C3500 .

Preparing Documents for Faxing, Copying, or Scanning Y ou can use the M ultiP ASS to fax, copy , or scan documents that are printed on standard letter , legal, or A4 siz e paper .

1-16 Introduction Chapter 1 Adding P ages to the Document If you want t o add pages while the M ultiP ASS is sending a document, wait until the last page is feeding into the unit and then insert the new sheets. Insert the first new page so it overlaps the last page by about one inch (2.
Chapter 1 Introduction 1-17 Identifying Y our Documents W hen sending a document, the following information is pr inted out by the r eceiving fax: your fax n umber , your name, and the current date and time. This information is called your TTI ( T ransmit T erminal Identification) and appears at the t op of the fax ed document in small type.
1-18 Introduction Chapter 1 Copying Documents One of the con venient featur es of the M ultiP ASS is its ability to mak e high-qualit y copies. Y ou can make up to 99 c opies of one document at a time. N It ’ s a good idea to use the optional BC-20 Black BJ Cartr idge when you make black and whit e copies.

Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-13 Printing Printing Speed V ersus Color The M ultiP ASS Printer Driver for W indows can interpret and translate the full spectrum of colors, up to 16.7 million colors. When printing color , there is a significant increase in the amount of information that the driver has to int erpret and translate.
2-14 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 For Monochrome Printing U se the optional BC-20 Black BJ Car tr idge to optimize the printer’ s performance when you ar e printing black text and graphics only . In the printer driv er , choose the following printing options to tell your M ultiP ASS to pr int using black ink only .
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-15 Printing Use Monochrome when possible If you will be printing text in black ink only , choose a Color Selection of Black and W hite rather than Gra yscale. Print draft documents in M onochr ome rather than Color , or use Draft pr int quality when printing color .

Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-19 Printing Loading P aper Y ou can stack paper in the sheet feeder to load it auto matically , or you can manually feed one sheet at a time through the manual feed slot. Y ou can place appr o ximately 100 sheets of plain paper (20 lb or 75 g/m 2 ) in the sheet feeder at a time.
2-20 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ M ov e the paper guide to the left to mat ch y our paper size. ❍ For best r esults, fan the paper before loading it. ❍ Alwa ys fan a stack of paper along the edge that w ill feed into the printer first.

2-22 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ The platen (a r oller on the inside of the pr inter) ma y become ink ed if you print data beyond the width of the page. If this happens, clean the platen with a soft cloth. (For details on cleaning the platen, see page 9-4.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-23 Printing Manually Feeding P aper Y ou use the manual feed function when printing on heavier-w eight print media (24 lb to 28 lb or 90 g/m 2 t o 105 g/m 2 ). N Y ou cannot recei v e fax es when paper is loaded in the manual feed slot.
2-24 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ Y ou see this screen appr o ximately 5 sec onds after clicking Continue . ❍ Mak e sure the print side is facing up . ❍ Align the sheet w ith the left edge of the manual feed slot, and keep the leading edge of the paper perpendicular to the left edge.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-25 Printing Printing On Envelopes Y ou can stack up to 10 en v elopes in the sheet feeder or you can man ually feed en velopes one at a time. U .S. Commer cial number 10 (COM10) en v elopes and Eur opean DL en velopes are r ecommended.
2-26 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ Arrange the stack of en velopes on a firm surfac e and press do wn fir mly on the edges to make the folds crisp . ❍ Pr ess all the way ar ound the en v elopes to re mov e an y curls and expel air from inside the en velopes.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-27 Printing ❍ Slide a stack of env elopes into the sheet feeder until it stops. ❍ Align the edge of the paper guide with the left edge of the stack of env elopes. ❍ Insert the env elopes with the pr int side up.

Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-29 Printing ❍ W hen loading transparencies or back print film, insert one sheet of plain paper as the last sheet in the stack. ❍ Do not leav e the film in the sheet feeder for long periods of time. Dust and dirt may accumulat e on the film resulting in spotty printing .
2-30 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ Y ou may want t o fasten the r oll with a small piece of tape. Canon’ s High Resolution P aper HR-1 0 1 Using the P aper Output Guides The output tray on your M ultiP ASS is equipped w ith paper output guides.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-31 Printing ❍ W hen the output guides are raised, the output tray can hold a maximum of 30 sheets. ❍ W hen you finish using the BC-22e Phot o or BC-29F N eon BJ Cart ridge w ith High Resolution P aper , lower the output guides to their original position.
2-32 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ Insert the sheet w ith the sticky side out (to ward y ou) and down (going into the sheet feeder). ❍ A djust the paper guide to the edge of the cleaning sheet. Insert the cleaning sheet. Remove the two pieces of tape from the sheet.

Fabric Sheet FS-1 0 1 Fabric Sheet FS-101 for Canon printers comes with a booklet that describes special handling procedur es.
2-34 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 Printing On a Fabric Sheet ❍ Mak e sure the paper thickness lev er is to the right position. ❍ Mak e sure the paper support and paper output tray are extended. ❍ Insert the sheet w ith the cloth side out (to ward y ou) and the open end up (awa y from the sheet feeder).
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-35 Printing ❍ In the P aper tab, select A4 for the Paper S ize and select Fabric Sheet for the Print Media. ❍ In the Graphics tab , select Hig h for the Print Qualit y . Y ou may also want t o select Fine mode.
2-36 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 Printing On Banner P aper Banner paper is a contin uous sheet of paper w ith perforations at equal distances along its length wher e it can be cut to the length requir ed. For best results, use Canon ’ s Banner Paper .
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 2-37 ❍ Place the M ultiP ASS near the edge of a table so that the paper can flow o ver the edge as it e xits the unit. ❍ Mak e sure the paper r est is ext ended. ❍ Pr ess the CARTRIDGE button t o mov e the cartr idge holder to the cent er of the unit.
2-38 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ Raise both output guides on the paper output tray . ❍ Y our banner can be up to 6 sheets (66 in./1676 mm) long. Cut the banner paper along one of the perforations to the length required. Adjust the paper output tray .

2-40 Printing With the MultiPASS C3500 Chapter 2 ❍ Mak e sure the sheets behind the unit ar e also aligned with the sheet feeder . ❍ Lea ve a 0.04 inch (1 mm) gap betw een the paper guide and the edge of the sheet. ❍ Mak e sure the sheet is under the tabs on the sheet feeder and paper guide.

Chapter 3 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager 3-1 MultiP ASS Desktop Manager The M ultiP ASS Desktop Manager is a full-featured Windo ws application that enables you t o use your M ultiP ASS C3500 from your c omputer . The M ultiP ASS Desktop Manager coor dinates the printing, PC faxing , and scanning functions of the M ultiP ASS C3500.
3-2 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Starting the MultiP ASS Desktop Manager W hen you start W indows, the M ultiP ASS Ser ver is automatically started as well. The MultiP ASS Ser ver enables and monitors the communication betw een the Desktop M anager and the M ultiP ASS C3500.
Chapter 3 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager 3-3 MultiP ASS Desktop Manager Exploring the MultiP ASS Desktop Manager Window W hen you start the M ultiP ASS Desktop Manager , you see a scr een similar to this: Menu Bar The menu bar co ntains the commands that enable y ou to perform the various Desktop Manager tasks.
3-4 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Action Toolbar The action toolbar pro vides quick access t o certain Desktop Manager tasks. When a task is una vailable, the toolbar button appears dimmed.
Chapter 3 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager 3-5 MultiP ASS Desktop Manager Command Bar The command bar is locat ed at the bottom of the work area and contains butt ons that perform key proc essing tasks. In most cases, you simply drag a document from the work ar ea onto the c ommand bar button for the task y ou want to perform.
3-6 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Using the Desktop Manager Folders The Desktop M anager stor es and organizes documents in folders. Only one folder can be open at a time. When you open another folder , the current folder automatically closes.

3-8 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Creating a New Folder 1. Click the Cabinet icon, or the folder w ithin which you want t o stor e the new folder . 2. Choose the N ew F older command fr om the File menu, or click the rig ht mouse button and choose N ew Folder .

W hen you first open the Deskt op Manager , documents are automatically display ed in List View .
3-10 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Document V iew allows you to w ork with an individual document at the page level: scrolling pages, removing a page, splitting a document, or merging two or more documents into a single document.
Chapter 3 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager 3-11 MultiP ASS Desktop Manager Documents display ed in List View cannot be manipulated as in Document V iew , such as splitting a document or merging two or more documents.
3-12 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Setting Up the Address Book One of the first things you'll want to do in the Desktop M anager is set up your Address Book. Setting up an A ddress Book creates an easily accessible list of names and fax/phone/e-mail numbers for all of your business and personal contacts.
Chapter 3 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager 3-13 Address Book Entries A ddress Book entries are listed alphabetically b y last name, displaying both group and individual names, compan y name, phone, fax, and e-mail information. Y ou can sor t A ddress Book entr ies by an y column description by simply clicking on the column title.
3-14 Using the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Chapter 3 Adding and Editing an Individual Address W hen setting up an individual A ddress Book entr y , at a minimum, you must specify the contact ’ s first or last name, and their fax number .

When adding a new group , you assign a name to the group , then select previously defined addresses from the A ddress Book t o include in the new group .

C Spilled ink can stain an y surface. Open BJ cart ridges and BJ tanks carefully , and follow the guidelines presented her e to pr otect against spilled ink.
Maintaining the MultiP ASS C3500 Using Ink Canon has more engineers dedicated to cr eating quality ink for pro viding the best results for output on Bubble Jet printers than an y other organization. Canon does not prohibit the use of third-part y inks and the use of third-part y inks does not invalidat e the product ’ s limited warrant y .
If you ar e using the BC-21e Color BJ Cartr idge and your output is blank, one of the BJ tanks is probably out of ink. See the instructions starting on page 9-16 for replacing a BJ tank. The following proc edure describes how t o replac e the BC-21e Color BJ Cart ridge w ith the optional BC-20 Black BJ Cart ridge.
