xvi • Never bloc k the ventilation slots and louvers on the printer . These openings are pro vided for pr oper ventilation of working parts inside the printer . Blocking these openings can cause the printer to overheat. Never place the printer on a soft surface, such as a sofa or rug.
xvii CA UTION • Do not use power supplies with v oltages other than those speci fi ed herein, as this may result in a fi re or electrical shoc k. • Alwa ys grasp the power plug when disconnecting the po wer cord. xviii • T urn off the main power switch f or safety when the printer will not be used for a long period of time such as o vernight. Also, turn the main power s witch on the left of the printer and unplug the power plug f or safety when the printer will not be used for an extended period of time such as during consecutive holida ys.

Paper Requirements 2-2 Load and Output of the P aper 2 Paper Requirements Printable Paper T o ensure optimum perf or mance , use only paper that falls within the speci fi cations listed below . Inappropriate paper may deteriorate print quality or result in paper jams.

Paper Requirements 2-7 Load and Output of the P aper 2 Storing Paper The quality of paper ma y deteriorate if it is stored improperly ev en when the printer meets the normal speci fi cations . Deteriorated paper ma y cause misfeeds , paper jams, or deterioration in print quality .
Paper Source 2-8 Load and Output of the P aper 2 Paper Source Paper Source T ype This printer in basic unit feeds paper only from the m ulti-pur pose tra y . When the optional 250-sheet paper f eeder is installed in your printer , paper can be fed from two paper sources .

Printing Plain Paper and Heavy Paper Print on plain paper and heavy paper using the multi-purpose tra y using the f ollowing procedure . IMPOR T ANT Print speed drops when printing heavy paper .
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-18 Load and Output of the P aper 2 3 Gently load the stac k of paper with the printing side facing up until it touches the bac k of the tray . Be sure that the paper stack is loaded under the paper limit guides. CA UTION When loading paper , be careful not to cut your hands with the edges of the paper .
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-19 Load and Output of the P aper 2 NO TE T o pr int on letterhead paper or paper printed with a logo , load the paper so that the print side is facing up and the top of the paper goes into the f ar end. 4 Slide the paper guides so that they fi t to both sides of the paper stack.
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-20 Load and Output of the P aper 2 5 Select [Print] in the application. Select this printer from [Name] and clic k [Properties]. The [Proper ties] dialog bo x for this printer will appear . 6 Display the [P age Setup] sheet, and then select the page size of the document from [P age Size].
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-21 Load and Output of the P aper 2 7 From [Output Size], select the size of the loaded paper as needed. Leave the setting at [Match Page Size] when the paper size and output size are the same, since there is no need to change the option.

Select [A4] or [Letter] as only A4 or Letter size is available for printing transparencies.

The settings for [Paper T ype] ar e not necessary when [T ransparency Interleaving] is selected for [Paper Selection]. Con fi rm the contents of the displayed message and then clic k [OK].

Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-40 Load and Output of the P aper 2 CA UTION Do not touch the loc k release levers located on the right and left sides of the paper cassette when the plate of the paper cassette is locked. The plate may snap f orcefull y if the lock is released and ma y result in personal injuries.

IMPOR T ANT The CAPT software is required f or printing with this printer .

The dialog bo x for con fi rming the language will appear . 5 Con fi rm the language and clic k [Y es]. After the installation setup completes, the CAPT (Canon Adv anced Printing T echnology) installer software will star t up .

Installing the CAPT Software 3-8 Setting Up the Printing Environment 3 11 Select [Y es, I want to restar t m y computer now], then click [Exit]. Windows will restart automatically . The installation of the USB class driver and the printer driver is completed.

For Windows Me, select [Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)]. The dialog bo x for specifying the search location will appear .

When your CD-ROM drive is drive [D:], select the [D:EnglishUsbportWin98] (Windows 98) / [D:EnglishUsbportWinMe] (Windows Me) folder . 6 Con fi rm that the correct folder is displa yed in [Specify a location], then click [Ne xt].
Installing the CAPT Software 3-12 Setting Up the Printing Environment 3 8 Click [Finish]. The printer driver will be detected automatically . Wait for a moment. The [Add New Hardwar e Wizard] dialog box will be displayed. Click [Next] to continue the installation.
Installing the CAPT Software 3-13 Setting Up the Printing Environment 3 10 Unchec k [Floppy disk drives] and [CD-R OM drive], check [Specify a location], and then click [Br owse]. 11 Select the folder , then clic k [OK]. When your CD-ROM drive is drive [D:], select the [D:EnglishWin98_Me] folder .
Installing the CAPT Software 3-14 Setting Up the Printing Environment 3 13 Click [Ne xt]. 14 Enter a new name in [Printer name] if y ou want to change the printer name.
Installing the CAPT Software 3-15 Setting Up the Printing Environment 3 17 Click [Finish] The installation of the USB class driver and the printer driver is completed. Installing from Add Printer Wizard 1 On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings] and clic k [Printers].

NO TE This window will not appear when the netw or k settings are not con fi gured. 4 Click [Ha ve Disk]. 5 Insert the "User Software for LBP-2410" CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, then clic k [Bro wse].
