6 Setup Guide Checking t he Accessories If any of the items listed below ar e miss ing or damaged, contact your local authorized Canon dealer or serv ice representative.
7 Installing the Softwar e 1 Insert the Setup Disc into the computer’s CD-ROM dr ive. The setup m enu automatically starts up when you insert the CD-ROM into the dr ive. (If the menu does not start up, execute setup.exe from the CD-ROM.) 2 Click [Typical Installation].
8 Connecting the Scanners to a Computer For scan ners that use an AC adapter (DR-2 010C, DR -2510C, DR -3010 C) For scan ners that do not us e an AC adapter (DR-4010C , DR-60 10C, DR -6050C, DR -7550 .

10 Introducti on Thank you for purchasing the Canon imageFORMULA Flatbed Scanner Unit 101. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the scanner to fam iliarize yourself with its capabilities, and to mak e the most of its m any functions. 11 Important Safety In st ructions To ensure the safe operation of t his flatbed, make sure to read the safety warnings and precautions described below. Installat ion Locat ion The performance of this flatbed is af fected by th e environment in which it is ins talled.
12 Moving the Fl atbed ● If you move the flatbed, make sure to first set the lock switch on the underside of the flatbed to t he position to lock the sca nning unit into place. Make sure to carry the flatbed it with both hands so as not to drop it. T he flatbed weighs approximat ely 7.
13 ■ Connect the AC adapter only to a power outlet of t he rated voltage and power supply frequency (120 V, 60 Hz or 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz depending on your r egion).
14 Names and Functi ons of Parts A Document Cover Close this to k eep documents in place while scanning. You can fold t his cover for easy document plac ement during continuous sc anning of multiple small document s. B Scanning G lass C Power Indicator This lights when the flatbed is t urned ON and flashes when scanning is in pr ogress.
15 Do cume nts The flatbed can scan doc uments ranging from 8.5" (216 mm) to 14.0" (356 mm) in size. Placing Docum ents Open the document cover, and place the document on the scanning glass, as shown below, with the scanning side facing down.
16 Scanning Methods When the flatbed scanner unit is connected to a scanner and computer, you can select one of the following methods to scan documents, base d on the docum ent type and intended purp ose.
17 NOTE • When using the Canon DR-series scanner to scan d ocuments, all of its supported functions will be available. • The above functions may change as newer Canon DR-series scanners are released.
18 Scanning with Jo b Function s/Capture OnTouch Scanning w ith Job Fu ncti ons By using Job R egistration Tool or the job function in CaptureOnTouch, you can register scanning conditions as jobs. Reg istered jobs can be executed by pressing the start b utton on the flatbed.
19 Scanning with Ca pturePerf ect You can use the Captur ePerfect so ftware prov ided with the connected Canon DR-series scanner to s pecify the scanning conditions and saving options before scanning. The following describes how to sc an documents wit h CapturePerfect using the [Scan Batch to File] setting.
20 3 Select the scanne r you are using (the name of the connect ed Canon DR- series sc anner should b e followed by “w/flatbed”), and clic k [Settings]. The [Configure Device Settings] dialog box appears. IMPORTANT If the flatbed and the Canon DR-series scanner are connect ed properly, “w/flatbed” should app ear after the s canner name.
21 7 Configure the [Main Sc anner/Flatbed] setting. Select [Flatbed] if the document is placed on the flatbed, and select [Main Scanner] if the document is placed in the Canon DR-series sca nner. If you s elect [Auto], the scanner in which the document is placed is detected automatically.
22 13 When scanning is complete, sele ct [Exit] f rom the [File] menu to exit CapturePer fect. Scanner Settings When you open the settings dialog box f or your scan ner while the flatbed is connected, y ou can configure scan conditions with the following settings.
23 [Mode] Select the scanning mode. [Page Size] Select the page size of the document to be scanned. If you select [Auto-detection], the docu ment size is detected automatically.
24 Other Methods fo r Scanning This section des cribes the various scanning options. Changin g the Fee ding Opt ion for Scanning Changing the feeding option setting i n the scanner settings dialog box can be helpful w hen scanning multipage docum ents.

26 Usin g Two Scanne rs Setting [Main Scanner/Flatbed] to [Auto] in the scanne r settings dialog box makes it easy to scan certain types of documents with one scanner or t he other, or s can using a combination both scanners.

28 Appendix Rout ine C lean ing Clean the flatbed on a regular basis to maintain scanning performance. WARNING For safety, always turn the power switch OFF and disconnect the power cord f rom the power outlet before cleaning the flatbed. Do not use spray-type cleaners to clean the flatbed.
