2 SAFETY RULES W oodworking can be dangerous if safe and pr oper operating procedures ar e not followed. As with all machinery , there are certain hazar ds involved with the operation of the product. Using the machine with respect and caution will considerably lessen the possibility of personal injury .
3 1. DO NOT operate your drill press until it is completely assembled and installed according to the instructions. 2. IF YOU ARE NOT thoroughly familiar with the operation of drill presses, obtain advice fr om your supervisor , instructor or other qualified person.
4 UNP ACKING Y our drill press is shipped complete in one container . Carefully unpack the drill pr ess and all loose items from the container . Figure 2 illustrates the drill press and all loose items supplied with the machine.
5 CLEANING Remove the protective coating fr om the machined surfaces of the drill press and all loose items. This coating may be removed with a soft cloth moistened with ker osene. DO NOT use acetone, gasoline, or lacquer thinner for this purpose. ASSEMBLING THE DRILL PRESS Fig.

7 Use proper extension cor ds. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sur e to use one heavy enough to carry the current to your tool. An undersized cor d will cause a drop in line voltage r esulting in loss of power and overheating.

Befor e connecting the machine to the power source, make sure the switch is in the “OFF” position.

10 3. Fig. 22, illustrates the table alignment pin (B) removed. Loosen table locking bolt (D), tilt table to the desired angle and tighten bolt (D). When r etur ning table to the level position, replace table alignment pin (B). This will automatically position the table surface at 90 degrees to the spindle.

12 DRILLING HOLES TO DEPTH Where a number of holes ar e to be drilled to exactly the same depth, the stop nuts on the threaded stop r od are used as follows: 1. Lower the spindle until the pointer (A) Fig. 28, lines up with the mark on the scale (B) you wish the depth to be.
13 1. Insert smooth end of drill bit (A) Fig. 30, as far as it will go into the chuck (B), or up to the flutes for small bits. 2. Make certain that the drill bit (A) Fig. 30, is centered in the chuck (B) before tightening the chuck with the key (C). 3.
14 BORING IN WOOD T wist drills, although intended for metal drilling, may also be used for boring holes in wood. However , machine spur bits are generally pr eferred for wood working; they cut a flat bottom hole and are designed for r emoval of wood chips.
