Attach the (-) probe of the meter to chassis gr ound. 3. S tart and run the vehicle. 4. P r obe the wire you suspect of being the tachometer wir e with the r ed probe of the meter .

If the light flash polarity jumper is mov ed to the (-) position (see the P rogr amming J umper section of this guide), this wir e supplies a (-) 200 mA output.

I t is often connected to an optional momentar y push-button switch to make activating V alet T ake Over more convenient.
10 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. H1/10 BRO WN (+) H orn Honk O utput This wire supplies a (-) 200 mA output that can be used to honk the vehicle horn. I t outputs a single pulse when locking the doors with the remote, and two pulses when unlocking with the r emote.

This can be used to pulse the disarm wire of the vehicle's factory anti-theft device. U se a r elay to send a (-) or (+) pulse to the disarm wire as sho wn in the diagrams below .

© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 15 H3/4 BRO WN (+) Br ake Switch I nput This wire MUST be connected to the vehicle's brake light wir e. This is the wire that sho ws (+) 12V when the brake pedal is pressed. The remote start will be disabled or shut do wn any time the brake pedal is pressed.
16 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. Neutral Safety Switc h Interface Some v ehicles combine the column shift mechanism and the mechanical neutral safety switch into one mechanical part. In these vehicles, it is impossible to interface the remote start system before the neutral safety switch.

18 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. V alet/Pr ogram Switc h, 2-Pin BLUE Plug The V alet/P r ogram button should be accessible from the driver ’ s seat. I t plugs into the BL UE port on the side of the unit. Consider how the button will be used befor e choosing a mounting location.
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 19 Mounting the Receiver/Antenna Receiv er/antenna position should be discussed with the vehicle o wner prior to installation, since the antenna may be visible to the vehicle ’ s operator . The best location for the receiver/antenna is center ed high on either the front or r ear windshield.
20 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. Pr ogramming J umper s Light Flash J umper This jumper is used to determine the light flash output. In the (+) position, the on-boar d r elay is enabled and the unit will output (+)12V on the WHITE wir e, H1/2. I n the (-) position, the on- board r elay is disabled.
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 21 System Features Learn Routine The System F eatures Learn R outine dictates how the unit operates. D ue to the number of steps, they have been broken up into two menus. I t is possible to access and change any of the feature settings using the V alet/P r ogram switch.
22 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 5. Release. The V alet®/P rogram switch can no w be released. F or example, to program the arming mode from active to passive, within 10 seconds of turning the ignition off, select M enu One and press and release the V alet/P rogram switch once.

26 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 2-3 RUN TIME 12/24/60 MINUTES: This feature controls ho w long the engine will run before it “ times out” and shuts down. P rogrammed to the default setting the engine will run for 12 minutes. If the 24- or 60-minute run time is desired, press the unlock button of the transmitter .

The r eceiver can store up to four different transmitter codes in memory . U se the follo wing learn routine to add trans- mitters to the system or to change button assignments if desired.
28 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. C C h h a a n n n n e e l l s s # # 4 4 -6 6 : : Channels 4 through 6 are used to assign the arm, disarm and panic functions to separate buttons on the remote control. T eaching a button to Channel 4 erases all information about that remote from memory .
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 29 T ransmitter Configurations The transmitters can be programmed with the standar d or single button arm/disarm configurations by using the A uto Learn functions in the T ransmitter/Receiv er Learn Routine.

Within 5 seconds, pr ess and hold the V alet/program switch. 3. The LED will light constant when the tach signal is learned.
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 31 4. Release the V alet/program switch. 5. P r ess and release the V alet/program switch. The LED will now r eport the last system shutdown by flashing for one minute in the belo w grouped patterns; the LED will stop flashing when the ignition is turned on.
32 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. Safety Chec k Before v ehicle reassembly , the remote system must be checked to ensure safe and tr ouble-free operation. The following test procedur e must be used to verify proper installation and operation of the system.
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 33 T r oubleshooting The ignition comes on, but the starter will not cr ank. ➤ Does it start with the key in the ignition? If so, does the vehicle hav e a V A T S P ass-Key system? ➤ Will it start with the brake pedal depressed? (M ake sure to disconnect the brake shutdo wn when performing this test.
➤ Make sur e the purple starter wire is connected on the starter side of the starter kill relay . ➤ Does the v ehicle have an immobilizer? S ome immobilizer systems will not allo w the vehicle to crank if active. ➤ Check connections. The two red heavy gauge input wires on the r elay satellite should have solid connections.
