1 WELCOME 1.1 INTRODUCTION Thank you for choosing DAS200 storage appliance. It is a low-cost, single-chip solution for digital home and small office storage appliances.

1.4 SPECIFICA TIONS a Two 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives to a standar d B type USB or eSATA interface with door cover. a Power, Host, Alerm and two HDD LEDs. a Design based on the Silicon Image Sii5744 controll er. a Support Mirroring (SAFE), Striping ( FAST), Combine (BIG Drive), and Stand ard (Individual Drive) modes.

1.5.3 STRIPING (FAST) The STRIPING storage policy distributes access across all hard disks, also called FAST (equivalent to RAID 0) . STRIPING presents the be st data speed but no data re dundancy. STRIPING stor age policy accelerates hard disk operating speed by using many disks in para llel.
BANC, although no mirroring will occur until a second hard disk drive is connected to Port 1. With only one hard disk drive c onnected, the M IRRORING volume will b e available, a lthough no da ta protection wil l be provided u ntil a second hard disk drive is connected.

2 INST ALLA TION 2.1 INST ALLING HARD DISK DRIVE Please refe r below procedure to comple te the HDD inst allation. • Unfasten the Tool- less screws on the back panel. • Remove the upper chas sis cove r backw ards and lifts it up. • Open the front door and install the HDDs in ord er from the b ottom to the top.
• Twist the Tool-less screws shut to seat the drive securely. • Close the front door and the u pper chassis cover, than fasten the T ool-less screws on th e back panel.
2.3 POWER ON / OFF • Push the power switch to p osition “ I ” to power on. • Push the power switch to position “ O ” to pow er off. DAS200 User’s Manual Ver.
3 CONFIGURA TION 3.1 CONF IGURA TION PRER EQUISITES 3.1.1 SATA HOST CONNECTIONS This guide assumes that you have alread y attached the DAS200 to a host computer tha t has been installed with the Sii3124 or Sii3132 HBA (Host Br idge Adapter) or another third par ty SATA HBA with Port Multiplier (PM) support.

3.6.4 MIRRORING (SAFE) MODE IMPORTANT: Before reconfiguring a volume, back up your data and delete previously defined partitions. 1. Turn on th e powe r. 2. Set the DIP switch position to MIRRORING. 3. Press the recessed Mode Chan ge push-button. Ver.
Note: After you hav e press ed the Mode Change push -button, an d than wa it a while, the MI RRORING mode will start to rebuilding (depand on th e capacity of HDD, i.e. 35min s for two 80GB HDDs, or 250mis for two 750GB HDDs); Once the rebuilding has completed, the HDD indicative LEDs will turn RED then to GREEN color.
4 P ARTITIONING VOLUMES 4.1 P ARTITION A VOLUME 4.1.1 WINDOWS SYSTEMS IMPORTANT: Before repartition a volume, back up your data and delete previously defined partitions. 1. Right- click th e My Computer icon on your desktop and select Man age from the pop-up window.
Every disk shou ld appear w ith the word “ Basic” , a size value that shows the availa ble storage capacity, and a status of “ Online ”. Inst ead of Basic , a disk could appear Unk now n , Dynamic , or Not Initialized . If the disk appears as “ Unknow n ”, right-click the disk icon and sele ct Write Signat ure .
4. Click Next to start the Partition Wizard. 5. Select the Primar y or Extended option and click Ne xt . Ver. 071004 DAS200 User’s Manual 36.
6. Specif y the partition si ze. By default , the partition o ccupies the entire volu me. Click Next . 7. Assign a drive letter or mount p ath and click Next .
8. Name and format the partiti on and click Next . 9. Review the file syste m settings and clic k Finish to create the logical partition. Ver. 071004 DAS200 User’s Manual 38.
10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 to partitio n any remaining disks. 4.1.2 MACINTOSH SYSTEMS IMPORTANT: Before reconfiguring a volume, back up your data and drag the old drive to the tra sh to un-mount previously partition. After you configure and pa rtition the new volumes, restore the backed-up data to the new configu ration.
2. Select a configured disk and click the Pa rtition tab. This procedure illust rates the COMBINE Storage Policy configuration, which concatenates the cap acity of all hard drives connected to th e DAS200. 3. Selec t 1 Partition from the Volume Scheme drop-dow n list.
8. Click Partition to acknowledge the warnin g. Disk Utility mounts the created partition and r epresent s it with an icon on the desktop. The icon is labeled with the pa rtition name. 9. Repeat steps 1 through 8 to partition any remaining disks you con figured.
