6 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Determining a Location Figure 4 High-temperature or extre me high-temperature ELITE sensor Step 1 Determining a Location Choose a location for the sensor based on the requirements descri bed in th is section. The foll o wing general guidelines can help you select an appropriate location fo r the sensor .
Installati on Manual 7 Determining a Locati on Figure 5 ELITE sensor ambie nt and proces s temperature limits (all models except high-temperature and e xtreme high-temperature mo dels) Ambient tempera.
8 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Determining a Location Figure 6 High-temperature and extre me high-temperature ELITE sensor ambient an d process tem perature limits Hazardous area approv als may impose additional limits on ambient and pr ocess temperature.
Installation Manua l 9 Determining a Locati on Maximum wiring distances If the transmitter is mounted remote ly from the sensor , the maximum di stance between the sensor and transmitter depends on cable type.
10 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Orientin g the Se nsor Step 2 Orienting the Sensor The sensor will function prop erly in an y orientation if the sensor tubes remain filled with process fluid. Micro Motion reco mmends orientin g ELITE sensors as sho wn in T able 3.
Installation Manua l 11 Mounting the Se nsor Step 3 Mounting the Sensor Use your common practices to minimize torque and bendi ng load on process conn ections. Figure 7 illustrates ho w to mount the sensor . T o reduce the risk of co ndensation or excessi ve mois ture, the cond uit opening should not point up ward (if possible).
12 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Mounting the Sensor Installing extended mount electronics If you ordered a sensor with an e xte nded mount for the electronics, you will need to install the e xtender . T o install the e xtended mount electronics: 1.
Installation Manua l 13 Mounting the Se nsor Figure 10 Mounting the temperature e xtender onto the sensor Mounting the electronics of high-temperature and e xtreme high-temperature se nsors High-temperature and extreme high-tem perature ELITE sensors come with a 32 ″ (812 mm) pre-installed flexible conduit.
14 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Mounting the Sensor Figure 11 Electronics mounting for h igh-temperature and extreme high-tempera ture ELITE sensors Installing wafer -style sensors A wafer -style sensor , which has no flanges or f ittin gs, lets you “clamp” the sensor between process connections in the pipeline.

16 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Wiring Step 4 Wiring Hazardous area installations If you are installing the sensor in a hazardous location, verify that the hazardous classif ication information printed on the sensor tag matches the en viro nment in which the sensor will be installed.
Installation Manua l 17 Wiring Figure 14 Micro Motion cable gland an d heat shrink 4. Fo r connection at the core p rocessor housing, pr epare shielded cable as follows (for armored cable, omit steps d, e, f, and g): a. Strip 4 1/2 inch es (114 mm) o f cable jack et.
18 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Wiring Figure 16 Applying the heat shrink g. Position gland clamping inse rt so the interior end is flush with the heat shrink. h. Fold the cl oth shield or braid and drain wires o ver the clampin g insert and approximately 1/8 inch (3 mm) past the O-ring.
Installation Manua l 19 Wiring Figure 19 Connecting the wires at the core processor 7. Reinstall and tighten the co re processor housing co ver . 8. Additional wiring instructions for the tran smitter can be found in the t ransmitter manual. Note: Never gr ound the 4-w ir e cable shield an d shield drain wir e(s) at the transmit ter .
20 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Grounding Step 5 Grounding The sensor can be groun ded via the piping if the joints in the pipeline are ground- bonded. If the sen sor is not grounded via the piping, con nect a ground wire to the in ternal or exter nal grounding scre w , which is located on the transmitter , core processor , or junction box.
Installation Manua l 21 Purge Fittings Purge Fittings If the sensor has pur ge fittings, the y should remain seal ed at all times. After a purge plug has been remo ved, the sensor case should b e purged w ith ar gon or nitrogen and resealed. Purging the case protects internal components.
22 Micro Motion ® ELITE ® Sensors Rupture Disks Rupture Disks If the sensor has rupture disks, the y are installed in the sensor purge f itting openin gs.
Installation Manua l 23 Return Policy Return Policy Micro Motion procedu res must be followed when retu rning equipment. These procedures ensure le gal compliance with go vernment transpor tation agencies and help pro vide a safe working en vironment for Micro Motion employees.
