Copying 15 Copying This section describes how to ma ke copies using th e control panel. For informatio n on making copies using a computer, see the Ref erence Guide . Note: When you make a copy using a control panel function, a moiré (cross-hatch) pattern may appear on your print out.

Copying 23 Copying without margins You can make a copy that covers the entire page of paper by using the BorderFree layout (see page 21 to select this layout). In the “ BorderFree ” layout, you can cha nge the following sett ings (see “ Changing C opy Settin g ” on page 3 1).

26 Copying Copying an im age multiple times on o ne sheet You can make multiple co pies of an im age on a si ngle sheet of paper by using “ Repeat ” layout (see “ How to cha nge the layout ” on page 2 1 t o s e l e c t t h i s l a y o u t ) . Y o u c a n s e l e c t n u m b e r o f c o p i e d i m a g e f r o m Auto, 4, 9 and 16.
Copying 27 Making a poster You can mak e a poster size copy using the “ Poster ” layout (see “ How to ch an ge th e lay out ” on page 21 to select thi s layout). In the “ Poster ” layout, yo u can change the follo wing sett ings (see “ Changin g Copy Setting ” on page 31).
28 Copying Gluing the images toge ther 1. Align the imag es. 2. Cut the crossover area, and then glue all the images together. w Warning: Be careful when using edged tools.
Copying 29 In the “ 2-up ” or “ 4-up ” layout, you can change the fo llowing s ettings (see “ Changing C opy Settin g ” on page 3 1). * indi cate s the de fault s etting . Note: You can only us e A4 paper for the “ 2- up ” and “ 4-up ” layout.
30 Copying Mirror copy You can copy a reversed image to prin t on Iron-On Cool Peel Transfer Paper by using the “ Mi rro r ” layout (see “ How to cha nge the layout ” on page 21 to select this layout). In the “ Mirror ” layo ut, you can cha nge the following setti ngs (see “ Changing Copy Setting ” on page 31).
Copying 31 Changing Copy Setting In the Copy Mode, you can change the copy settings as you prefer, using the A , B , C , and D buttons . By pressing the Menu button when you are in the Copy Mode, you can adjust the follo wing feat ures as w ell.
32 Copying Saving and recalling copy settings You can save th e current copy settin gs (except the n umber of copies) by pressing the l Select button and ho ld it for 3 seconds. To recal l the setting s you have saved, press the r Sele ct bu tton an d hold it for 3 second s.
Copying 33 Selecting the c opy quality Pr ess the C butto n repeatedly until th e copy quality you want appears on the LCD panel. The op tions you can se lect are: Draft, Tex t, Photo , and Bes t.
34 Copying Selecting the paper size Select the appropriate size of the paper lo aded on the sheet feeder as described below. Press the D button repeatedly until the appropriate paper size appears on the LCD panel. The paper size you can select are: A4, 10 × 15, 4" × 6", and A5.

Prin tin g Dir ectly fro m a Memo ry Ca rd 43 Printing with DPOF Functions DPOF (Dig ital Print O rder Format) is an ind ustry-stand ard print file request format. This product co nforms to DPOF version 1.10. DPOF lets yo u set photo n umbers and the num ber of copies fo r photos stored on a digital camera, before you sta rt printing.
44 Printing Directly from a Memory Card Loading Memory Cards Loadable memory card This product features three memory card slots. The types of me mory cards load able for each slo t are show n below. * An a dap ter is required. Note: The meth od to use a mem ory c ard var ies depe nding on its card typ e.

You can also includ e the following information in printou ts: shooting date and time, and photo details (exposure tim e/shutter speed, F number, ISO speed rate).

52 Printing Directly from a Memory Card 4. Enhance Re s By turning this function on, you can remove digital noi se in photos and enhance the resolution of low-resolution photos. The defa ult setting is Off. 5. Brightness This featu re allows you to ad just the brightness of printouts .

54 Printing Directly from a Memory Card 8. Saturation This featu re allows you to ad just the vividn ess of printout s. The default setting is Standard. 9. Date You can prin t the shootin g date in the bo ttom righ t area of a printout. You can choose a date formatting style from the list below.

56 Printing Directly from a Memory Card 12. Fit to frame By turning thi s function on, you can print i mages fit the print size you have selected. It au tomatical ly trims the areas of an image that extend beyond the margin s of the selected print size.

Replacing Ink Cartri dges 69 Replacing Ink Cartridges This product m onitors the amount of ink left in ea ch cartridge, using an IC chip built into the cartridge. If it detects the ink is lo w or running out, it no tifies you of th e ink cartridge to replace, using a message on the LCD panel or your computer.
70 Replacing Ink Cartridges Checking the i ii i nk level using the LCD panel 1. Make sure thi s product is on, and then press the Setup Mode button. 2. Press the A button repeatedly until 1.Ink leve ls appear s on the LCD panel and then press the x Color button.
Replacing Ink Cartri dges 71 ❏ The valve in th e ink supply port is desi gned to contain any excess ink that may be released. However, careful han dling is recommended. Do not touch the su pply port of the ink cartridge or its surrou nding area. ❏ This product uses ink cartridges equipped with an IC chip.
72 Replacing Ink Cartridges Replacing an Ink Cartridge Follow th e steps below to replace ink cartridg es. Note: Before re placing a n ink cartri dge, read “ Pre cautions on Ink Cartridge Repla cemen t ” on page 70 an d “ When han dling ink cartr idges ” on page 10.
Replacing Ink Cartri dges 73 3. Make sure that the document cover is closed, and then open t he scann er unit. c Cautio n: ❏ Do not o pen t he sca nner un it wh en the docume nt cove r is still open. ❏ Do not move the print head by hand. Doing so may damage this produ ct.
74 Replacing Ink Cartridges 5. Remove an ink cartridg e from its package. 6. Pinch the sides of the ink cartridge that you want to replace. Lift the cartridge out of this product and dispose of it properly. Do not take the used cartridge apart o r try to refill it.
Replacing Ink Cartri dges 75 7. Install th e new ink cartridge straight in to the cartridge holder, and then press the top of the cartridge until it clicks into place. If you need to replace the other in k cartridge, repeat steps 5 and 6. 8. Close the cartridge cover.
76 Replacing Ink Cartridges 9. Close the scanner unit. The print head mo ves to its home po sition, and ink cha rging begins. When Charging ... appears on the LCD panel when ink charging is in progress. Chargi ng... disappea rs from the LCD panel, ink chargin g is comple ted.
Maintena nce and T ransportin g 77 Maintenance and Transporting Checking the Print Head Nozzles If you find that the printed ima ge is unexpectedly fa int or some do ts in the printed ima ge are missing, checking th e print head nozz les helps you to identify the problem.
78 Maintenance and Tran sporting 5. Check the printout. The following examples indicate when the print head needs to be cleaned. Good: print head does no t need to be cle aned yet. Not Good: print head needs to be cleaned. The ac tual printo uts a re printe d in colo r (CMY K).
Maintena nce and T ransportin g 79 Cleaning the Print Head If you find t hat the nozzle check resu lt is unexpectedly fain t or some dots in the prin ted image are miss ing, you may be able to solve thes e problems by cleaning the print head, which ensures that the nozzles are delivering ink properly.
80 Maintenance and Tran sporting 4. When Head clea ning... disappears from the LCD panel, perform the nozzle check to confirm that the head is clean and to reset the cleaning cycle.

84 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Error Messages You can identif y many comm on prob lems us ing the ! Error light and error messages on your Control Panel. If this product s tops workin g and the ! Error light is on, use the following table of error mess ages to diagnose the probl em, and then try the recommended solut ion.
Troubleshooting 85 The data on t he memory card has changed. Prin t a new Index Sheet, then try again. After an In dex Form is prin ted, an image f ile on the memory card is added or removed. Pri nt the Index For m again. No memory card. Operation canceled.
86 Troubleshooting No XXX ink cartridge -> Press the Color butt on to insta ll new ink cartridge. The ink ca rtridge indic ated in the message is not insta lled. Press the x Color button and open t he scanner unit by followi ng the messages to insta ll th e ink cart rid ge.
Troubleshooting 87 The Copied Image is Improperly Sized When Auto Fit P age is selected as the Reduce/Enlarge setting on the LCD panel and th e border of the original docu ment is white or very light, the size of t he origina l might not be recognized co rrectly.
88 Troubleshooting Clearing the Jammed Paper If paper is jammed inside this product, an error message appears on the LCD panel. You may be able to clear the jammed paper using the Control Panel. Fo llow the instru ctions below. 1. Press the x Color button to eject the jammed paper.
