INTRODUCTION This manual descr ibes the operation of the M-P A two-w a y FM Select, Scan, and S ystem model por table radios . Operating controls on the r adio include a ro- tatable control knob , rotatab le v olume control, a 4- button k eypad ( S can model) or 16-button k eypad (System model), push-to-talk, emergency and moni- tor b uttons.

MENU BUTTON (Scan Model) Pressing the MENU b utton causes the r adio to scroll through up to six ( 6) diff erent menus pro- gram med into the radio . After the desired menu is displa yed, the f eature within the menu is selected with the SEL button.
After the men u is chosen, the desired function or f eature is selected b y pressing the SEL b utton. F or e xample, to disable the aler t tones , press M ENU until "ALER T " is display ed then press SEL to select "DIS- ABLED". Next pr ess the EXIT b utton.

"KEY LOCK" Allows the keypad buttons to be locked or unlocked. "SCAN A/D" Allows channels to be added to or deleted from the scan list for the current mode. T he priority- one channel and the priority- two channel are also set within this menu.

T 99 Type 99 tone decode - On indicates Type 99 tone decoding is enabled on the se- lected channel. Flashing indicates a T99 selective call has been received and the radio must be reset to receive another T99 call. TX Transmitter enabled - On when the radio is transmitting.
ALERT TONE S The M-P A uses aler t tones or "beeps" to indicate v ar ious operating conditions. Aler t tones ma y be ena bled or disabled via the menu m od e if th e "ALER T" f eature is progr ammed. See "AL ERT " MENU f or details .
If program med on, the pow er-up aler t tone (beep) will be heard. MODE/CHANNEL/CG S ELECTION The M-P A Scan and System model radios ma y be progr ammed with up to 192 diff erent radio chan- nels. A maximum of 12 modes of 16 channels each or 16 modes of 12 channels each ma y be pro- gram med into the radio (12 x 16 = 192).

Ensure no one is transmitting on the se- lected channel by pressing the MONIT OR BUTT ON to disable squelch or obser ving the displa y f or the absence of the "BSY" status flag.

Rotat- ing the CONTROL K NOB will not change channels. T urning the radio off and then back on will reset this condition.

1. If the "SCN" status flag is on, press S C AN to tur n scan off . 2. Select a channel in y our radio system that has telephone interconnect capability . The radio should be prog rammed f or DTMF op- eration on this channel. 3. Press the MENU b utton until "PHONE" ap- pears in the displa y .
TELEPHONE INT ERCONNECT CALLS SYST EM MODE LS T elephone interconnect calls can be placed on radio channels equipped with this capability . Each cha nnel programmed into the radio can be pro- gram med for telephone interconnect by enabling it f or DTMF dial operation.
4. While holding the PTT BU TT ON, p ress either the " * " button or the "#" b utton as required b y the radio system to obtain a telephone line. The radio will transmit the selected tone. 5. Release the PTT BU TT ON and listen f or a dial tone.

OPERATING TIPS Antenna location and condition is impor tant when operating a por table r adio . Oper ating the radio in low areas of terrain, under power lines or bridges , inside of a v ehicle or in a metal or steel fram ed building can se v e rely reduce the r ange of the unit.

REM O VING T HE B A TTER Y P A CK 1. Ensure the ON/OFF SWITCH on the battery pack is in the off position. 2. Press do wn on the batter y release latch and slide the batter y pack out in the dir ection of the release latch.
Cha rgers are av ailabl e with nominal charge times of 1 hour (r apid) and 14 hours (standard). Combinations include single ( 1) and multi (5) posi- tion, standard and rapid char ge units. In addition, the v ehicular chargers/repeaters sim ultaneously charge the batter y packs while the radio is operating.
