Impor tant Safeguards Carefully read all instructions before operating this appliance and save for further reference. Do not attempt to use this appliance for any other than the intended use, described in these instructions. Any other use, especially misuse, can cause several injuries or damage by electric shock, heat or fire.
4 • Before use always make sure that the appliance is assembled properly and a sufficient amount of water is filled in the water container (between water level mark 'min' and 'max'). Do not operate the appliance with the water level below the minimum water level mark ('min').
Hot Surfaces – Risk of Burns The Gastroback Design Steamer is designed for cooking a variety of foodstuffs and, therefore, the exterior of the steamer will get hot during operation.
Maintenance of Plastic Surfaces Any plastic parts coming in contact with foods, including the container in the steamer base, are manufactured of high-grade heat-resistant plastics. Do not use the appliance with any cracks or distortions of the plastic par ts.

First use Before first use, clean all removable parts of the steamer in war m soapy water (see Care and Cleaning). W ARNING: Please handle all par ts of the appliance with care. Switch off, unplug and allow the appliance to cool down, before moving or cleaning the appliance.

Adjust the desired cooking time by pressing the keys h and min. The maximum cook- ing time is 1 hour 59 minutes (1:59). By exceeding the maximum cooking time, the cooking time is automatically set back to zero (00:00). • Pressing the key h (hours, left hand to the display) increases the cooking time by one hour .

Dry-out Protection If you forgot to refill the water container in time or accidentally switch on the steamer with an empty water container , the boil dr y out protection switches off the heater auto- matically . In this case a continuous acoustic signal sounds, the heater indicator flashes and the timer stops.
CAUTION! Do not leave any food dry on the sur faces of the appliance. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or cleaning pads to avoid damage especially of the plastic parts. T o soak dried food, just place the removable parts of the steamer in war m washing-up liq- uid for about ten minutes.

Useful tips The actual cooking time depends on several components: the sort of food, pre-treatment (fresh, tinned or frozen), as well as the amount and consistency of the food. Big chunks of food, waxy potatoes or brown rice for example need longer cooking times.
Fresh vegetables Fruit Using the steamer you can make beautiful compote or cook fruit for side dishes. Y ou can prevent fruit from turning brown by sprinkling with lemon juice before cooking. Cooking pears develop the full flavour when sprinkled with vinegar .
Rice Fill the needed amount of water straight into the rice pan. Use 350 ml water for 250g of rice. Season to taste. cooking time (parboiled rice): 30 to 45 minutes Brown rice needs 5 minutes longer and/or should soak for 30 in water before cooking. Do not forget to fill the watertank with water as well.
