11 Important Installation Guidelines • Avoid sources of noise and heat , such as motors, uorescent lighting, microwav e ovens, heating appliances and direct sunlight . • Avoid areas of excessive dust , moisture and low temperature. • Avoid other cordless telephones or personal computers.

Choose an area near an electrical outlet and a telephone wall jack (RJ11C), and place your cordless telephone on a lev el surface, such as a desktop or tabletop, or you may mount it on the wall. . Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base and the other end into a modular jack.
16 Answering Syst em Setup This section shows you how to set up your answ ering system to receive incoming calls. Before you begin the set up pr ocess, you must turn on the answering system. • Press the ans on/off button to turn the answering system on and off .
17 Set Prompt Language From the Answer er Menu: 1. Press the CALLER ID-V OLUME ( 5 or 6 ) button to scr oll to PROMPT L ANG . . Press the mute/menu OK button to enter the menu.
18 Message Alert This feature sets your answ ering system to give an alert tone every 10 seconds when there ar e new messages. From the Answer er Menu: 1. Press the CALLER ID-V OLUME ( 5 or 6 ) button to scr oll to the MESSAGE ALER T sub-menu. . Press mute/menu OK button to enter the menu.
19 Voice Instruction If you need additional assistance, press the repeat button in standby mode and follow the voice instructions. Recor ding the Outgoing Announcement For best results when r ecording, you should be about nine inches fr om the microphone, and eliminate as much backgr ound noise as possible.

Programming Functions The system uses a menu structure to give you access to all of the built -in features. Y ou may program the following items in main menu: Phonebook, Room Monitor , Answerer , Set Alarm Clock and Handset Setup.

Dialing a Number from Internal Memory 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode). . Press the mute/menu OK button to go to the main menu. . Press CALLER ID-VOL UME ( 6 or 5 ) button to scr oll to PHONEBOOK . . Press mute/menu OK button to enter PHONEBOOK menu.
6. The receiving handset will turn on the micr ophone and the originating handset will turn on the speakerphone to monitor sound from the r eceiving handset . NOTE: F or room monitoring mode to work , the originating handset must NO T be on the cradle.
5 8. Press the mute/menu OK button to conrm and advance Set Cycle Time sub-menu. 9. Use the CALLER ID-VOL UME ( 6 or 5 ) button to select Once or Daily . The default setting is Once . 10. Press the mute/menu OK button to save y our selection. Y ou will hear a conrmation tone.
6 Handset Name From the Handset Setup Menu: 1 . P r e s s t h e CALLER ID-VOLUME ( 6 or 5 ) button to scroll to the HANDSET NAME sub-m e nu . . Press mute/menu OK button to enter the menu. HANDSET NAME shows in the display. . Use the touch-tone pad to enter a name (up to 15 characters).

8 Storing VIP Melody From the Handset Setup Menu: 1. Press the CALLER ID-V OLUME ( 6 or 5 ) button to scr oll to VIP MELOD Y sub-m e n u. . Press mute/menu OK button to select VIP melody featur e and then display VIP 1 recor d. - I f VIP1 does NO T contain any specic number/records, it will display EMPTY .
9 Reviewing And Deleting Stored VIP Melody R ecord From the Handset Setup Menu: 1. Press the mute/menu OK button to enter to VIP MEL ODY menu. . Use the CALLER ID-VOL UME ( 6 or 5 ) button to scroll to the desir ed VIP Melody Record .
0 6. Press the mute/menu OK button to save y our selection. Y ou will hear a conrmation tone and the current time shows in the display. Equalizer This feature lets you to adjust the audio quality. From the Handset Setup Menu: 1. Press the CALLER ID-V OLUME ( 6 or 5 ) button to scr oll to Equalizer .
1 . Press the mute/menu OK button to conrm. Y ou will hear a conrmation tone and your selection shows in the display. Registration Y our packaged handset(s) are pr e-registered and r eady to use. It is not recommended that a handset be register ed again unless absolutely necessary.

Default Setting As you become familiar with this system, you may pr efer to use the system’s original settings. Follow the steps below to return to the factory default settings. Speakerphone Operation . NOTE: If y ou are using the speakerphone, r emain close to handset so the party you are speaking to can hear you. If you are using the handset and w ant to switch to the speakerphone, press the SPE AKER button, pr ess END/cancel to end conversation.
5 Ignore The Incoming Call With this feature, you can transfer all the incoming calls to the answering system. When the phone rings, press the END/cancel button on the handset .
6 Last Number Redial Y ou may redial a number up to 5 digits long. T o quickly redial the last number y ou dialed: 1. Press the T ALK or SPE AKER button. . Press the r edial/format button. -OR- . Press the r edial/format button rst , then use the CALLER ID-VOL UME ( 6 or 5 ) button to select the desired r edial number .
7 . To cancel the page, pr ess the END/cancel, delete/intercom/conf , or T ALK button on the originating handset , or press the END/cancel button on the r eceiving handset . Paging All Handsets fr om a Handset (applicable only with additional handsets) 1.
8 Do Not Disturb (D-N-D) This feature allows you to turn off all the handset ringer(s) at once, by pr essing one button at the base unit , even though the ringer volume of handset(s) has been pr eset . 1. In the standby mode, press the do not disturb button on the base.
9 Receiving an Intercom Call When you receiv e an intercom call, your handset beeps. T o answer the call pr ess the delete/intercom/conf button or T ALK button.
0 . Use the touch-tone pad to select Handset #. Y ou will hear a paging tone and P AGING shows in the originating handset’s display. NOTE: P AGING FROM... shows in the display on the receiving handset , and the receiving handset pr esses the delete/intercom/conf or T ALK button t o answer the intercom.
1 Call Waiting Caller ID Pro vid ed you subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID service from your phone company; if you receiv e an incoming call and you are using the GE multi handset system, a beep indicates the presence of a Call Waiting call on the line.
Reviewing CID Recor ds As calls are r eceived and stored, the display is updated to let you know how many calls have been received. T o scr oll CID recor ds: 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode). . Press the CALLER ID-VOL UME ( 6 ) button to r eview the newest CID recor d.
. Press mute/menu OK button to go to the main menu. . Press CALLER ID-VOL UME ( 6 or 5 ) button to scr oll to PHONEBOOK . 5. Press mute/menu OK button to stor e the number . NOTE: Pr ess the END/cancel button once to keep the previous setting (making no changes) and return to the menu.
Answering Syst em Operation This section discusses the buttons and features on the answering system. Message Counter Indicat or The message counter gives you a numeric display of how many messages y ou have. The new message indicator ashes to indicate you have new messages.
5 Screening Calls fr om the Base 1. When the answering system answers the call, listen while the caller leaves a message (to determine who is calling).
6 . Press the delete button, the curr ent message is erased, and the next message plays. T o erase all previously played Messages in a mailbox 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode) . Press and hold the delete button until “ ALL OLD MESSA GES ERASED ” is announced.
7 Screening Calls fr om the Handset Use the handset to screen calls even when y ou can’t hear the answering system. When the answering system picks up: 1. Pre ss the mute/ menu O K butt on to go to the ma in men u. . Pre ss the CALLE R ID-V OL UME ( 6 or 5 ) butto n to s cro ll to ANSWER ER .
8 Memory Full When the answering system memory is full, the system answers after 10 rings, beeps and waits for you to enter the -digit security code. If y ou don’t enter the security code within 8 seconds, the phone hangs up. Y ou should erase some messages so the answering system can recor d new messages.
9 Changing the Batter y CAUTION: T o r educe the risk of re or personal injury, use only the Thomson Inc. approved Model 5-2814 Nickel-metal Hy dride battery (Ni-MH), which is compatible with this unit . 1. Make sure the telephone is OFF (not in T ALK mode) before you replace the battery.
50 Display Messages The following messages shows the status of the phone, provides Caller ID information, or helps you set up and use your phone. ANSWERER REMOTE Indicates the answering system is being accessed AC CESS remotely. ANSWERING CALL Indicates the answering system is answering the incoming call.
51 INCOMPLETE DA T A Caller information is interrupted during transmission or the phone line is excessively noisy. Indicates no CID information was receiv ed, you are not subscribed to CID service, or CID ser vice is not working. LINE IN USE Displays on handset while the line is in use.
5 Answering Syst em Display Messages The following messages show the status of the answering system or help you set up and use the system. 0-59 Indicates the total number of messages. CL (blinking) The voice time/day stamp needs to be set . - - Answering system is turned off.
5 • Make sure the battery is pr operly charged (for 16 hours). • Make sure the battery pack (in the handset) is pr operly installed. • The handset should beep when you press the T ALK button, and the charge indicator on the base should be lit when the handset rests in the cradle.
5 Caller ID Solutions No Display • Charge the battery (for 16 hours). Or replace the battery. • Make sure the unit is connected to a non-switched electrical outlet .
55 • Y ou may have accidently pressed the play/stop button during playback and stopped the message. Won’t respond to r emote commands • Y ou must use a tone-dial phone. This phone does not support pulse (rotary) dialing. • Make sure to enter the corr ect security code.
