Scanning software The scanner includes a CD with scanning and document -management prog rams, as shown in the followi ng table . Programs Software us e HP Scanning Software The HP scan ning software includes the Scanner To ols Utility, the HP Document Copy Util ity, the HP PDF writer, and th e TWAIN scanner drivers.

In the Save As settin gs area, set up t he default file name a nd location that is used when saving a PDF file. The follow ing settin gs can be speci fied: ● File name: Select one or more of the check boxes t o specify the def ault file name for PDFs.
● Feed-Rolle r Assembly Mai ntenance: This sect ion indica tes when the sca nner feed rollers were last replaced and lets you kn ow when it is tim e for them to be replaced. The recomm ended replacement interval will vary ba sed on number of pages scanned, number of paper jams, and pape r errors.

Disabling the scan ner buttons To prevent bu ttons from bei ng accidentally pushed, you can use the Scanner To ols Utility to disable th e buttons. Use the same uti lity to re-enable th e buttons. To disable the scann er buttons, com plete the fol lowing steps: 1.

Load originals in the do cument feeder 1. Extend the output tray. For longer pa per sizes, extend the document fee der extension at t he top of the scan ner. 2. Place the stack of pages face down. The top of the p ages should point dow n ( ). 3. Adjust the pa per guides to cente r the origina l.
Basic scanning 1. Load the orig inals. For more inform ation, se e Load original s . 2. Do one of th e followin g: – Press the scan ner button for the ta sk you want to perform. For mor e informati on see Use the s canner bu ttons . – Open a scanning sof tware program and star t the scan from the software.
Note If you do not have N ewSoft Presto! PageM anager installed, you are prompted for wh ich program to use f or the scan. When the scan is complete, th e scanned image is di splayed on the screen. You can save the scan by dragg ing it to a location in the folder tree o n the left-ha nd side of th e screen.
Scan to PDF button Use the lower -left Scan to PDF ( ) button to sca n an item a nd save it as a PDF file. The file is autom a tically opene d into Adobe Acro bat or your defa ult PDF reader.
To scan a bu siness card, adjust the paper g uides to the width of the card and i nsert it as follows: ● vertically ● face down in to the document feeder When you press the Scan Bus iness Card butto n, the NewSoft Presto! BizC ard program automatical ly launches and scan s the card.

To clean the stri ps of glass, foll ow these steps: 1. Disconnect the U SB cable and power supply from the scanner. 2. Open the scann er hatch. 3. Clean the glass by usin g a soft, lint-free cloth that has been sprayed w ith a mild gl ass cleaner. Caution Use only glass cleaner to clean th e scanner glass.
3. Place the unfol ded cloth into t he document fe eder. 4. Press the Scan Docu ment button. Caution Wait two minutes for the compo nents to dry before pro ceeding to the next step. 5. Place u p to five pages of pr inted pape r in the s canner. Scan and view the resu lts.
3. Use an HP pape r-path cleani ng cloth to clean the feed roller and th e small rubbe r pad that is lo cated belo w it. Note If you do not have an HP paper-path cl eaning cloth, use a lint-free cloth that ha s been dampe ned with isop ropyl alcohol. 4.

LED indi cation Scanner acti on or conditio n The Power LED is lit with a steady, dim amber light. The scanne r is in Power Sa ve mode. The Power LED is lit with a steady green li ght. The scanner is on and ready to scan. The Power LED blinks green at a medium speed.
4. A software confl ict might exist on your computer. Yo u might need t o uninstall and then reinstall the scanner software. a. Clic k Start , click Settings , and then click Control Pane l . (In Windows XP, click Start , and then cli ck Control Panel .

Scanner buttons ar e not wo rking co rrectly After each step, start a scan to see i f the buttons are workin g. If the problem persists, proceed with the next st ep. 1. A cable might be loo se. Ensure that the USB cable and the power supply are securely connected.
● The document fe eder or output tray mi ght contain more tha n the maximum number of pages. Load fe wer pages in the docu ment feeder, and re move pages from the output tray. ● Check to se e that the scanner hatch is fully closed. ● Clean the scanne r paper path to help reduce misfeeds.
Clear jams from the scanne r paper path 1. Open the scann er hatch. 2. Remove the original s or any obstructions from th e paper path. 3. Remove any debris (paper, staples, clip s, etc.) that you see in t he paper path. 4. Clos e the scanner hatch. 5.
