How to use the printer menus The printer menus con tain many feat ures for printing phot os, changing print setti ngs, and more. Label Description 1 Menu name : The name of the current menu. 2 Menu option : The options available in the current menu. 3 Menu scroll arrows : Touch to scroll through menus or menu options.

• Security leve l : Select Low (default) or Hi gh . The Low settin g does not require users of other devi ces with Bluetoot h wireless technology to enter the p rinter passkey. High requires users of o ther devices wi th Bluetooth wireless te chnology to enter the printer passke y.
• Print quality : Touch to chang e the print quali ty. Choose betwe en Best , Normal , or Fast Norm al print quality. • Paper type : Touch to ch ange the ty pe of paper on w hich to prin t. Choose bet ween HP Advan ced , HP Premium , Other, Plain , or Other, Photo .

To cancel pr inting 1. Touch Cancel on the quick touch fra me when viewing a photo in 1-up view . If the current photo is not in the print queue ▲ Click Yes in the Cancel All Printing dialog box. Configure Blu etooth To access the full configuration op tions for Bl uetooth wire less technology, you need t o configure bot h the printer and you r computer. The w ay you access these setti ngs depends on t he Bluetooth so ftware you use. This section pro vides Bluetoo th instructions using the Widcom m software.
Print photos from an iPod If you have an i Pod that can store p hotos, you can conne ct your iPod to the p rinter and print the photos. Before you begin Check that the images you copy to the iPod are i n JPEG format. NOTE: iPods might no t be available i n your country/ region.
To access c reative options 1. View a phot o in 1-up view. 2. Touch Get Cr eative . 3. In the Get Creative Menu , touch the desired creative option. Use t he onscreen arrows to navi gate through a ll the creative options avail able. Draw on photos The Scribble creative option lets you draw on the current photo with the stylus.

Create a lbums The Albums creative option lets you add photos t o photo album books. You can se lect from several cate gories, in cluding: Se asonal, Kids, Ge neral, and Spec ial. To use the Albums c reative option 1. Touch Get Creative w hen viewi ng a photo in 1-u p view.
Use Design Gallery The Design Gal lery creative optio n lets you apply special effects. You can modify the effect by changing the settings availa ble for that effect. To use the Desi gn Galley cre ative option 1. Touch Get Cr eative when viewin g a phot o in 1-up view.
To print from a slide show 1. When the photo yo u want to prin t is displayed, touch a nywhere on the to uch screen to pause the slide show. 2. Touch the Print ic on to print the photo.

Remove red-eye from your photos The printer p rovides a way to red uce red-eye that can occur in photos ta ken wit h a flash. To remove red-ey e 1. Touch Ed it Photo when viewing a pho to with red-eye in 1-u p view. 2. Touch Re move Red-Eye . The Red-eye ic on flashes and t hen displays continu ously after red- eye removal.

5 Print from a computer This section describes how t o print photos when th e HP Photosmart A620 series printer is connected t o a computer, and you want to print an image from an im aging applica tion such as Photos mart Essen tial.

You need to transfer the pho tos to your computer to use them i n image ed iting software, in cluding the HP Photosmart software that came with the printer.

Change the pr int quality Choose the pr int quality an d speed to optim ize your photo printing . To select a print q uality and speed 1. Open the Pri nter Properties di alog box. For m ore inform ation, see “ Printer Properties dialog box” on page 39 .
Change the p aper size Use the Printer Properti es dialog box instea d of the softw are applicatio n's Page Setup dialog box to se lect a paper size. Some sof tware appli cations do not l ist all the pa per sizes the printer su pports. To select a pap er size 1.

Print preview You can preview a d ocument on th e computer before p rinting it. If the print preview does not look the way you want it to, close the preview wi ndow and make the nece ssary adjustme nts to the document o r to the print sett ings.

Print photos with a bo rder Guidelines • To learn how to use t he photo print ing features, se e the “ photo enhan cing” on page 42 p age. • Verify the photo paper you are using is no t rippled or curle d. • Do not exceed t he paper tray capacity when lo ading media.
Print postcards Guidel ines • Use only cards and small media th at meet the p rinter paper-size specifications. For more informatio n, see “ Printer specifications” on page 8 1 . • Do not exceed the pa per tray cap acity when l oading me dia. For more information , see “ Printer specifications” on page 81 .
Print panoramic ph otos For true panoram ic printing, you must have t aken a panoramic pho to. Also, use HP panorama paper 10 x 30 cm (4 x 12 inch). To create a pano ramic print from a no n-panoramic photo, see the pa norama photos section of “ Specialt y printing projects” on page 33 .
Print on in dex cards and other small media Guidel ines • Use only cards and small media that me et the printer paper-size speci fications. • Do not exceed the pa per tray cap acity when l oading me dia. For more information , see “ Printer specifications” on page 81 .
6 Maintenance This section cont ains basic mai ntenance proc ed ures that can help keep your printer performing wel l and producing top- quality photos .
you need to al ign the print cartrid ge manually in clude document s that print at an angl e, colors not printing satisfactori ly, or poor print quality. To align the print cartr idge from the printer 1. Load a sheet of H P Advanced Photo Pap er in the input tray.
NOTE: Ink from the ca rtridges is used in the pri nting process in a number of different ways, includin g in the ini tialization p rocess, which pre pares the device and cart ridges for printing, a nd in printhead servicing, wh ich keeps prin t nozzles clear and ink flow ing smoothly.
To insert or r eplace a print cart ridge 1. Make sure the pow er is on and you have removed the cardbo ard from inside t he printer. 2. Open the print cart ridge door of t he printer. 3. Remove the b right pink tape from the cartridge. NOTE: Do not touch th e copper-colored contact s on the prin t cartridge.

The HP Digit al Imaging Moni tor icon shows the status of the printer: The HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon has a green check mark when the p rinter is in an idle state. The HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon has an excl amation mark when there is an e rror.
7 Troubleshooting Before contacti ng HP support, read this section for troubleshootin g tips or go to the onlin e support services a t www.hp.com/support . Before you b egin , make sure: • All the cable con nections betwee n the printer and comput er are secure.
One or more sy stem comp onents d id not meet m inimum sy stem re quirements Cause: A component of the computer system d oes not meet the min imum or recommended syst em requirements.
• Try inserti ng a CD that you know au toplays. If tha t CD does not aut oplay, you may need to service the CD-RO M drive. • If other CDs work but the HP Photosm art CD does not work, you may ha ve a damaged CD. You can download the printer so ftware from www.
Printing and hardware issues • The print out did not appear • The computer and printer lost commu nication • The Found N ew Hardware W izard did not recognize the printer when it was connected t.
The computer and p rinter lost communicati on Cause: • The comput er might not be co nnected to the pri nter. • The printer mi ght be turned off. • The printer mi ght not be conne cted to a power sou rce. • You might be usi ng a USB hub or dockin g station that has multiple devices connected to i t.
The New Hardwar e Wizard did not ap pear when th e printer and c omputer were connected with a USB c able Cause: You may not be using the proper versi on of Windows , or there may be something w rong with the U SB cable or the U SB cable connect ion.
A small re d circle appear ed on the HP Digita l Imaging Monitor icon in the W indows taskbar Cause: There i s a connection or comm unication probl em between t he printer and the computer. Solution: 1. Connect the pr inter directly to a USB po rt on the computer.
Solution: From t he software a pplication's Fil e menu, selec t Print , then click Proper ties and choose the desired print setti ngs. The printer does not print borderl ess photos when pri nting without a co mputer. Cause: The borderless printing opt ion may be turne d off.
To improve the system resour ces, close all open program s except Windows Explorer and Systray, then try prin ting again: To improve system resources 1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete . 2. Select all programs except W indows Explorer and Systray. Hold Ctrl or Shift to select mult iple progra ms.
Solution: • Make sure you have sel ected the correc t orientatio n on the Features ta b of the Printer Properties dialog b ox. • Make sure you have select ed the correct pa per size. For more information, see “ Change the paper size” on page 45 .
The printout does not appear as it sh ould Cause: The pa per may be marked, scratched, or wrinkled , or the paper may be dark in color or contai n metallic fib ers. Solution: If the pape r is damaged, dark in color, or conta ins metallic fibe rs, the sensor may not detect paper type and si ze accurately.
• The passkey (PIN) t hat the device wi th Bluetooth wireless technology is u sing for the printer may be incorrect. Make sure the correct passkey for the printer is entered i n the device with Bluetooth wire less techno logy. • You may be too far from the printer.
• The print ca rriage has stal led • The printer is out of paper • There is a paper j am • The paper l oaded does not mat ch the paper si ze selected • The memory card has been in serted ups.
3. Make sure the cartridge is compatible with th e printer. 4. If this does no t work, repl ace the cartrid ge. The print car riage has sta lled Solution: The re is an obstruction blocking the path of the pri nt carriage or the cartridge se rvice station.
The memory card has been in serted upside dow n Solution: The memory card has been in serted upside down. Remove th e memory card and reinsert i t with the gold cont acts facing down. The memory card i s not inserted properl y Solution: The printer can de tect the me mory card but cannot read it.
