2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP All-in-One to qui ckly and easily accomplish ta sks such as making a copy, scanning documents, or printing photos from a memory card. You can access many HP All-in-One func tions directly from the control panel, wit hout turning on your computer.

5 Finish setting up the HP All-in- One After you have compl eted the steps in the Setu p Guide, refer to this sect ion to finish sett ing up the HP All- in-One.
Use printer sharing If your computer is on a network, and another computer on the n etwork has an HP All- in-One connected to it by a US B cable, you ca n print to th at printer using pr inter sharing. The computer directly connect ed to the HP All-in-One acts as the host for the printer and has full softwar e functionality.
Integrated wirele ss WLAN 802.11 network setup Use this section if you w ant to connec t the HP All-in-On e to a computer on a w ireless network using a wirel ess router or access point (802.11). HP recommends this me thod. To set up the HP All- in-One on an integrated wireless WLAN 802.
Connect to an inte grated wireless WLA N 802.11 network The HP Photo smart Software CD and included USB setup cable provide an easy way to connect the HP All-i n-One to your wireless network.
In order to connect th e HP All-in-One to your computer (ad hoc), you need to create an ad hoc network profile on your comput er. This includes choosing a network name (SSID) and WEP security (optiona l but recommended) for your ad hoc network.

Wireless Status Status of the wireless network: • Connected : The HP All-in-One is connected to a wireless LAN and everything is wo rking.

Parameter Description Total Packets received The number of packets received by the HP All- in-One without error since it has been turned on. The counter clears after the HP All-in -One is tur ned off. Network gl ossary access point A network router that has wireless capability.
IP address A number that uniquely identifies the device on the network. IP addresses are assigned dynamically through DHCP or AutoIP. You can also set u p a static IP address, though this is not recommend ed. MAC address Media Access Control (MAC) address that uniquely identifies the HP All-in- One.

6 Load originals and load paper You can load many diffe rent types and sizes of paper in the HP All-in-On e, including letter or A4 paper, pho to paper, transparencies, envelopes, an d HP CD/DVD tattoo la bels.
Choose papers for printing and copying You can use di fferent types and si zes of paper in the HP All- in-One. Review the foll owing recommenda tions to get the best printing and copying quality. If you use plain or photo paper, the HP All-in-One can automaticall y detect the paper type and size.

Load paper This section describes th e procedure for loading diffe rent types and sizes of p aper into the HP All-in -One for your copies or printouts. NOTE: After a copy or print job has started, the paper width sen sor can determine whether the paper is Letter, A4, or a smaller size.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-i n-One can be used with any soft ware application t hat allows printing. You can print a range of p rojects, such as borderl ess images, newsletters, gree ting cards, iron-on transfers, and post ers.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-i n-One as the default printer to use from all softwa re applications. This means t hat the HP All-in-One is automat ically selected in the printer list when you select Print from the File menu in a software appli cation.

5. In the Printing Shortcuts list, click the printing shortc ut that you want to delete. 6. Click Delete . The print ing shortcut is removed from t he list. NOTE: Only the shortcu ts that you have created can be deleted. The origi nal HP shortcuts cannot be de leted.

To print a multiple -page document as a booklet 1. Load paper into t he input tray. The paper sh ould be thick enough so that the images do not show through to t he other side. 2. On the F ile menu in your software app lication, click Print . 3. Make sure the HP All -in-One is the selected printer.

8. In the Page o rder list, click an appropriat e page order option. The sample ou tput graphic is numbe red to show how t he pages will be ordered if you select each option.

Print a poster You can create a po ster by printing a document on multiple pages. T he HP All-in-One prints do tted lines on some pages t o indicate where to tr im the pages before taping them together. To print a poster 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in the input tray.
To print a Web page 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the input tray. 2. On the F ile menu in your Web browser, click Print . The Print dialog box app ears. 3. Make sure the HP All -in-One is the selected printer. 4. If your Web browser support s it, select the items o n the Web page that you wa nt to include in the printout.
3. Double-click the HP All-in-One icon. TIP: You can also double-click the printer icon in the Windows taskbar. 4. Select the print j ob you want to cancel. 5. On the Docu ment menu, click Cancel Pr inting or Canc el , or press the Delete key on your keyboard.
8 Use the photo features The HP All-i n-One is equipped with memory card slots which enable yo u to insert a memory card and b egin printing ph otos from your digital came ra without uploadin g your photos to a comp uter first.

6. Press the Copi es button until the number of copies you wan t to print appears on the display. 7. Press the Print button. TIP: While the photo is printing, you can continue scrolling th rough the photos on your memory card. When you see a ph oto you want to print, yo u can press the Print button to add tha t photo to the print queu e.

To print came ra-selected photos using th e DPOF standard 1. Insert your memory card int o the appropriate slot on the HP Al l-in-One. 2. When prompt ed, do one of the foll owing: • Select OK to pri nt all DPOF-tagged photo s. • Select CANCE L to bypass DPOF pri nting.
Before transferring ph otos to your computer, you need to remove the memory card from your digita l camera and insert it i n the appropriate m emory card slot on the HP All-in-One. NOTE: The HP All-in-On e must be connected to a computer th at has the HP Photosmart Sof tware installed on it.
9 Use the scan features Scanning is the proce ss of converting text and pict ures into an electronic format for your computer. You can scan almost anything (photos, magazine articles, and text do cuments) on the HP All- in-One.
To scan to a compute r 1. Load your original print side down on the right front corner of the gl ass. 2. Ensure that th ere are no memory cards in serted in the memory card slots on the HP All-in-On e. 3. Press Scan . A preview image of t he scan appears on your computer, where you can edit it .
Stop scanning To stop scanni ng ▲ Press Cancel on the control panel. Stop scanning 69 Scan.

10 Use the copy features The HP All-in -One allows you to prod uce high-quality col or and black-and -white copies on plain or phot o paper. You can enlarge o r reduce the size of a n original to fit a specific paper size, adju st the copy quality, and make high-quality cop ies of photos, in cluding borderless copies.
3. Press the Copies but ton to increase the numb er of copies. When you reac h the maximum, the setting returns to 1 copy. TIP: Use the software t hat you installed with the HP All-in-One to set the number of copies higher th an supported from the control panel .

To resize a document fro m the control pa nel 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in the input tray. 2. Load your original print side down on the right front corner of the gl ass. 3. Press the Size button to select Resize to Fit . 4. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color .
11 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All- in-One requires l ittle maintena nce. Sometimes you mi ght want to clean the glass and lid backing to remove surface dust and ensure t hat your copies and scans remain clear. You w ill also need to replace, align, or clean your print cartridges from time to time.
To clean th e glass 1. Turn off the HP All -in-One, unplug the power cord, and raise the lid. 2. Clean the gla ss with a soft cloth or spong e slightly moistened wi th a nonabrasive glass cleaner. CAUTION: Do not use abrasive s, acetone, benzene, or carb on tetrachloride on the glas s, since they can dama ge it.
To print a self-test report 1. Load lette r or A4 unused plain whit e paper into the inpu t tray. 2. Press and hold the Cancel butt on and then press the Start Copy Color bu tton. The HP All-i n-One prints a self-test repor t, which might indicate the source of the printing problem.
• Clean the print ca rtridges • Clean the print cartridge cont acts • Clean the area around the ink nozzles • Remove ink from y our skin and clothing Handle the print cartridges Before you replace or cle an a print cartridge, you should know the part names and how to handle the print cartridges.
NOTE: The HP All-in -One can only detect the ink levels for genuine HP ink. The ink levels in print cartrid ges that are refilled or have been u sed in other devices, might not register accurate ly.
To replace the pr int cartridges 1. Make sure th e HP All-in-One i s on. CAUTION: If the HP All -in-One is off when you open the print cartridg e door to access the print cart ridges, the HP All-in-One wi ll not release the cartrid ges for changing.
7. Remove the new print cartridge from its packagin g and, being careful to touch only the black plast ic, gently remove the plastic tape b y using the pink pull tab.
9. Close the p r int cartridge door. If you instal led a new print cartridge, t he HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignm ent page. 10. When prompted, ensure plain white paper is loa ded in the input tray, then press the button next to OK .
One came with a print cartridge protector, you can u se an airtight pl astic container to protect your pri nt cartridge. NOTE: If you use a plasti c container, make sure the ink noz zles on the print cartridge do not touch th e plastic.
Align the prin t cartridg es When a new p rint cartridge is installed, the HP All-in-One alig ns the cartridge. You can also align the prin t cartridges at any time from the soft ware you installed with the HP All - in-One. Aligning the prin t cartrid ges ensures high-quality out put.
Clean the print cartridges Use this feature when the self-test report shows streaking, white lines through any of th e lines of color or when a color is mud dy after installing a print cartridge for the first time. Do not clean print cartrid ges unnecessarily, as this wastes ink and shortens the life of the ink nozzles.
To clean the p rint cartridge contacts 1. Turn on the HP All-i n-One and open the print cartridg e door. The print carria ge moves to the far right side of the HP Al l-in-One. 2. Wait until the print carriage is idle and sile nt, and then unplug the power cord from the back of the HP All-in-One.
When debris gets on the print cartridges, it can cause ink strea ks and smudges on printed pages. Ink stre aking can be corrected by cleani ng around the ink nozzles as described here.
6. Clean the fa ce and edges around the in k nozzle area with the swab, as shown below. 1 Nozzle plate (do not clean ) 2 Face and edges around the ink nozzle area CAUTION: Do not clean the nozzle p late. 7. Hold the pr int cartridge with the HP log o on top, and insert the pr int cartridge back into the slot.
12 Shop for ink supplies For a list of prin t cartridge numbers, see the prin ted documentation t hat came with the HP All-in-O ne. You can also use the software that came with the HP All-in-One to find out the reorder numb er for all the print cartridges.

• Look at the On but ton located on the top of the HP All-i n-One. If it is not lit, the HP All- in-One i s turned off. M ake sure the powe r cord is firmly co nnected to th e HP All-in- One and plug ged into a power outlet . Press the On button to turn on the HP All-in- One.
• Do not reattach the pr otective tape once it has been removed fr om the print cartridge. Reattaching t he plastic tape might da mage the print cartridge. Place t he print cartridge in the HP All-in-O ne immediately after removin g the plastic tape.
• Do not combine dif ferent paper types and paper sizes in the input tray; the entire stack of paper in the input tray must be the same size and type. • Store printed p hotos under glass or in a storag e book to prevent bleed ing over time from high hu midity.
2. Gently pul l the paper o ut of the rollers. CAUTION: If the paper tears when you are removi ng it from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces o f paper that m ight be remaining insi de the device. If you do not remove all th e pieces of paper from the HP All-in-One, more paper jams are li kely to occur.
2. Reinsert th e print cartridge by slidin g it forward into the slot. Then push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 f or the tri-color print cartridge o n the left side. 4. If the problem persist s , pri nt a self-test report to determi ne if there is a problem with the print cartridges.
To print a self-test report 1. Load lette r or A4 unused plain whit e paper into the inpu t tray. 2. Press and hold the Cancel butt on and then press the Start Copy Color bu tton. The HP All-i n-One prints a self-test repor t, which might indicate the source of the printing problem.

7. Remove the n ew print cartridge from i ts packaging and, bei ng careful to touch only the black plastic, gent ly remove the plastic tape by using the p ink pull tab.
9. Close the print cartridge door. If you installed a new p rint cartridge, the HP All-i n-One prints a print ca rtridge alignment page. 10. When promp ted, ensure plain white paper is l oaded in the input tray, the n press the button next to OK .
4. Turn off the HP All -in-One, wait on e minute, then restart it. 5. Reinstall th e HP All-in-One software. CAUTION: Do not co nnect the USB cab le to the computer until prompte d by the software installation screen.
Cause: You pressed the On button too quickly. Solution: The HP All-in-O ne might not respond if you pre ss the On bu tton too quickly. Press the On button once. It might take a few minutes for the H P All-in-One to turn on. If you press the On button again during th is time, you might turn the device off.

Solution: Check that the HP All-in-One is turned o n, and then try the usb connection again. To retry the usb connection 1. Unplug the H P All-in-One power cord, and the n plug it in again. 2. Verify that the USB cab le and power cord are plugged in. 3.
The registra tion screen does not app ear Cause: The registration screen did not launch automat ically. Solution: You can access th e registration (Sign up now) screen from the Windows taskbar by clicking Start , pointi ng to Programs or All Progr ams , HP , Photosmart C4380 All-in-O ne series , and then clicking Product Regis tration .
4. Disconnec t the HP All-in-One from yo ur computer. 5. Restart your com puter. NOTE: It is importan t that you disconnect the HP All-in-One before resta rting your computer. D o not connect the HP Al l-in-One to your computer until after you have reinst alled the softw are.
Solution: Turn the computer on. Cause: The HP All-in-One is not prop erly connected to the compute r. Solution: Check th e connection from the HP All-in-One to your computer. Verify that the US B cable is securely plugged into the USB port on the back of th e HP All- in-One.
Solution: Access the router's Embed ded Web Server and turn on the Broadcast SSID option. Se e the user guide that cam e with your wireless route r for information on how to ac cess the Embedded Web Server and check the Broadcast SSID sett ing. For more information, see: “ Connect to a n integrated wirele ss WLAN 802.
• If a cordless telephon e, microwave, or other device t hat emits radio signals transm itting at 2.4 GHz is nearby, move it f arther away to reduce radio interference. • If your comp uter or wireless router is near an external wall, move them away from the wall.
If you do not know t he WEP key, see the do cumentation that came with your wireless router for informatio n on how to access the router's Embedde d Web Server. You can find the WEP key by loggi ng onto the router's Embedded Web Server using a computer on the wireless network.
Print quality troubleshooting If you are having problems with print quality, try the solutions in thi s section and observe the fol lowing guidelines: • Replace refill ed or empty cartridges with ge nuine HP print cartridges.
For more informati on on print cartridges, see “ Troubleshoot print cartridges” on page 95 . Cause: The pa per is too close to the print cartridge during pr inting. Solution: If the pape r is to o close to the print cartridge durin g printing, the ink might be smeared.
Use OpenType or TrueType fonts to ensure th at the HP All-in-One is abl e to print smooth font s. When selecting a font, look for the TrueType o r OpenType icon. The printout has a hor izontal band of distortion near the bottom of the p age Cause: Your image has light blue, gra y , or bro wn hues that print near the bot tom of the page .
Solution: Load the paper with the print side down. For example, if yo u are loading glossy photo paper, load the paper with the glossy side down.
