Chapter 1. About this manual This manual contains service and r eference information for ThinkCentr e ® comput ers list ed on the cover . It is intended only for tr ained servicers who are familiar with L enovo ® comput er products. Before servicing a L enovo pr oduct, be sure to read the Safety Information.
Note: RoHS and non-RoHS FRU part numbers with the same t and function ar e identied with unique FRU part numbers. Lenovo plans to tr ansition to RoHS compliance well before the implementation dat e and e xpects its suppliers to be r eady to support L enovo's r equirements and schedule in the EU .
Chapter 2. Safety information This chapter contains the safety information that you need to be familiar with befor e servicing a computer . General safety F ollow these rules to ensure gener al safety: • Observe good housekeeping in the area of the machines during and aft er maintenance.
Important: Use only appr oved tools and test equipment. Some hand tools have handles covered with a soft material that does not insulat e you when working with live electrical currents. Many cust omers have, near their equipment, rubber oor mats that contain small conductive bers t o decr ease electrostatic dischar ges.
Safety inspection guide The intent of this inspection guide is to assist you in identifying pot entially unsafe conditions on these products. Each machine, as it was designed and built, had r equired safety items installed t o pr otect users and service personnel fr om injury .
• W ear a grounded wrist str ap against your skin to eliminate static on your body . • P revent the part fr om t ouching your clothing. Most clothing is insulative and retains a char ge even when you are wearing a wrist str ap. • Use the black side of a grounded work mat to pr ovide a static-fr ee work surface.
• When possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables. • Never turn on any equipment when there is evidence of re, water , or structur al damage.
