12 Chapter 1 Using QuickTime Player Quick Time Play er has onscreen controls similar t o those found on CD play ers and DVD players . Use the contr ols to play , pause , rewind , fast-for ward , jump to the beginning or end, and adjust the volume of a Quick Time movie .

If movies you ’ re watching on the In ternet don ’t play pr operly , ho wever , it ma y help to change the connection speed setting.

(Some applications, such as Final Cut P ro , automatically add a time code during capture.

Preload puts the entire movie in to memory before it is played; Cache keeps movie data in memor y after it has play ed.

If you want , you can change settings such as which recor ding device and format to use , and where r ecorded movies ar e stored.

32 Chapter 3 Editing and Authoring with QuickTime Pro W ork ing with T racks A Quick Time movie is made up of one or more “tracks.” Each track stores a particular kind of data. For example , a QuickTime movie c ould have a video track, music tracks, and sound effects tracks.

If a pasted graphic is larger than the movie ’ s dimensions, Quick Time Pr o resizes the movie to fit the dimensions of the graphic.

T o overla y text: 1 In Quick Time Play er , choose File > Open F ile and then select the text file.
Chapter 3 Editing and Authoring with QuickTime Pro 37 The duration for each line of te xt in the text file appears on a separate line before the line of text. The time you type is the length of time af ter the movie has started at which this line of text will appear .

Chapter 3 Editing and Authoring with QuickTime Pro 39 Changing a Movie ’ s Shape with a Video Mask With Quick Time Pr o , you can change the shape of a movie from r ectangular to other shapes using a video mask.

With Quick Time Pr o , you can export a movie to a number of differen t file formats, such as Quick Time movie (MOV ), MPEG-4, 3GPP , 3GPP2, A VI, and DV .
Chapter 4 Exporting Files with QuickTime Pro 43 Expor ting F iles U sing Pr esets Quick Time Pr o offers a myriad of settings and options f or compressing video and a udio during export. T o help simplify the process of compressing and exporting, Quick Time Pr o also offers export presets.
