2 Thank you very much for sele cting the MA KIT A Brush Cutter . We are pleased to be able to you the MAKITA B rush Cutt er which is the result of a long development programme and man y years of knowledge and experience.
3 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Genera l Instru ctions – T o ensur e corre ct and s afe ope ratio n, the us er must read, underst and and f ollow this instructi on manual to assure familia rity with the handl ing of th e brush cu tter . Users insuff i- ciently informed will risk danger to themselve s as we ll as othe rs due to improper handling.
4 Start the brush cutter only in accor dance with the ins tructions. Do not use any othe r methods for startin g the engine! – Use the brush cut ter and the tools supplied on ly for applicat ions specified. – Start the brush cutter en gine only after the entire tool has been assembled.
5 Meth od of ope ration – Use the brush cutter only in good light and visibility . During cold seasons beware of slipp ery or wet areas, i ce and snow (ri sk of slipping). Always ensure a safe footing. – Do not o verreach . Keep pr oper foot ing, ba lance a nd hand control of the unit at all times.
6 Never st raight en or weld dama ged cutti ng blade s. – Be kind to the en vironmen t. Operate the brush cutter wit h as little noise and pollution as possible. In part icular check the correct adjustment of the carbur etor . – Clean the br ush cutter at regular int ervals and ch eck that all screws and nuts are securely tig htened.

9 C A UT I O N : Before perf orming any wor k on t he brush cutter , always switch off the motor and pull the spark plug connectors off t he spark plu g. Beware of hot engine pars and sharp blade edges. Always wea r protective g loves! CA UTI O N : Start the brush cutter only after having as- sembled it completely .
10 CONNECTION OF SWITCH CORD – Connect the switch cord s to the two cords from the engine by inserting one into the other. – Fix the co rd connecto r by clamp (7).
11 MOUNTIN G OF HANDLE – Fix t he loop handle to the dr ive sh aft by 2 b olts firml y . – Do not ad just position of the loop hand le too close to the cont rol grip.
12 Inspection and Refill of Engine Oil – Perform the follow ing procedure, with the e ngine cooled down. – While keeping the engine level, remove the oil gauge, and confir m that the oil is filled within the upper and lower limit marks .
13 Handli ng of Fuel It is nece ssary to handle fuel with utmost care . Fuel may contain substan ces s imilar to s olvents . Refuel ing must be perform ed i n a suffi ciently ventilated room or in the ope n air . Never inhale fuel vapor , and ke ep fuel away from you.
14 Observe all applic able accident preve ntion regulations! ST ARTING Move at lea st 3m away from the pl ace of refue lling. Place the br ush cutter on a clean p iece of gro und taking c are that the cut ting tool does not c ome in to co ntact with the grou nd or any o ther o bjects .
15 Note: – If the starter handle is pulled re peatedly when the cho ke lever remains at "CLOSE" pos ition, the engine will not sta rt easily due to excessive f uel intake. – In c ase of ex cessive fu el inta ke, remov e the spa rk plug a nd pull the st arter han dle slowly t o remove excess fu el.
16 SERVIC ING INS TRUCTIO NS C AU T IO N : Before doing any w ork on the brush cut ter , always stop the engine and pull the plug cap of f the spark plug (see "checking the spark plug").
17 5) Keep the engine level, and feed ne w oil up to the edge of the oil refi ll port. In refill, use a lubricant refill container. 6) After refill, se curely tigh ten the oil gauge. Insu fficient ti ghtening of the oil gauge will lead to oil leakage.
18 SUPPL Y OF GR EASE TO GEAR CAS E – Supply grease (S hell Alvania 2 or eq uivalen t) to the gear ca se through the greas e hole ev ery 30 hour s. (Genu ine MAKIT A gre ase may be pu rchased from your MAKIT A dealer .
19 ST ORAGE W AR NI NG : When drai ning the fue l, be sure t o stop the engine and confirm that the eng ine cools down. Just after stopping th e engine, it may st ill hot w ith possibilit y of burns , inflammabili ty and fi re.
20 *1 Perform initial replacement after 20h operation. *2 For the 200 oper ating h our inspec tion, r equest Authorized Servic e A gent or a machin e shop. *3 After empty ing the fue l tank, contin ue to run th e engine an d drain fuel in the car buretor .
21 TROUBLE SHOOTING Before making a request for repairs, check a trouble f or yourself. If any abn ormality is found , control your ma chine according to the description of this manual. Never tamper or dismount any part contrary to the description. For repairs, contact Authorized Service Agent or local dealership.
