4 V OL T A GE W ARNING: Before connecting the tool to a po wer source (receptacle, outlet, etc.) be sure the voltage supplied is the same as that specified on the nameplate of the tool. A power source with v oltage greater than that specified f or the tool can result in SERIOUS INJUR Y to the user - as well as damage to the tool.

7 INST ALLA TION Bench mounting When the tool is shipped, the handle is lock ed in the lowered position by the stopper pin. Release the stopper pin b y lower- ing the handle slightly and pulling the stopper pin. This tool should be bolted with f our bolts to a lev el and stable surf ace using the bolt holes provided in the tool’ s base.
8 If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty , or sawdust adheres to it in such a wa y that the blade is no longer easily visible , unplug the saw and clean the guard carefully with a damp cloth. Do not use solvents or an y petroleum-based cleaners on the plastic guard.
9 First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each on left and right) secur ing the k erf boards. Re-tighten them only to the e xtent that the kerf boards can still be easily mov ed by hand. Lower the handle fully and push in the stopper pin to lock the handle in the lo wered position.
10 Stopper arm The lower limit position of the b lade can be easily adjusted with the stopper ar m. T o adjust it, mov e the stopper ar m in the direction of the arrow as sho wn in the figure. Adjust the adjusting screw so that the b lade stops at the desired posi- tion when lowering the handle fully .
11 Switch action CA UTION: • Bef ore plugging in the tool, always chec k to see that the s witch tr igger actuates properly and retur ns to the “ OFF ” position when released. • When not using the tool, remov e the lock-off button and store it in a secure place.
12 Lighting up the lamps CA UTION: • This is not a rainproof light. Do not wa sh the light in water or use it in a rain or a w et area. Such a conduct can cause an electric shock and fume. • Do not touch the lens of the light, as it is very hot while it is lighted or shor tly after it is turned off.
13 Installing or removing sa w blade CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged befo re installing or removing the blade . • Use only the Makita sock et wrench provided to install or remov e the blade. F ailure to do so may result in ov er tightening or insufficient tightening of the he x bolt.
14 T o install the blade, mount it carefully onto the spindle , mak- ing sure that the direction of the arrow on the surf ace of the blade matches the direction of the arro w on the blade case.

16 V ertical vise The vertical vise can be installed in two positions on either the left or right side of the guide fence or the base . Inser t the vise rod into the hole in the guide f ence or the base and tighten the screw to secure the vise rod.
17 CA UTION: • Alwa ys rotate the vise nut to the right fully when securing the workpiece. F ailure to do so ma y result in insufficient securing of the workpiece. This could cause the workpiece to be thrown, cause damage to the b lade or cause the loss of control, which can result in PERSONAL INJUR Y .
18 1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces) W or kpieces up to 91 mm (3 - 5/8 ” ) high and 70 mm (2 - 3/4 ” ) wide can be cut in the f ollowing wa y . Push the carriage toward the guide f ence fully and tighten the knob clockwise to secure the carriage.
19 • Ne ver loosen the knob which secures the carriage while the blade is rotating. This ma y cause serious injur y . 3. Miter cutting Ref er to the previously cov ered “ Adjusting the miter angle ” .
20 When perfo r ming compound cutting, ref er to “ Press cut- ting ” , “ Slide cutting ” , “ Miter cutting ” and “ Be vel cut ” e xplanations. 6. Cutting cro wn and cove moldings Crown and co ve moldings can be cut on a compound miter saw with the moldings laid flat on the turn base.

25 Crown molding stoppers (optional accessories) allow easier cuts of crown molding without tilting the sa w blade . Install them on the base as shown in the figures.
26 7. Cutting aluminum ex trusion When securing aluminum e xtr usions, use spacer b locks or pieces of scrap as shown in the figure to pre v ent def or mation of the aluminum. Use a cutting lubricant when cutting the aluminum e xtrusion to prev ent build-up of the aluminum material on the blade.
27 Carr y the tool b y holding both sides of the tool base as shown in the figure. If y ou remov e the holders, dust bag, etc., you can carry the tool more easily . CA UTION: • Alwa ys secure all moving por tions bef ore carr ying the tool. • Stopper pin is f or carr ying and storage purposes only and not f or any cutting operations.
28 Make sure that the pointer points to 0 ° on the miter scale. If the pointer does not point to 0 ° , loosen the screw which secures the pointer and adjust the pointer so that it will point to 0 ° . 2. Bevel angle (1) 0 ° be vel angle Push the carriage toward the guide f ence and tighten the knob to secure the carriage.
29 Make sure that the tw o pointers on the ar m point to each 0 ° on the be vel scale on the arm holder . If they do not point to 0 ° , loosen the screws which secure the pointers and adjust them so that they will point to 0 ° . (2) 45 ° be vel angle Adjust the 45 ° be vel angle only after perf or ming 0 ° be vel angle adjustment.
30 • Leav e the florescent tube for a while immediately after a use of it and then replace it. If not. Y ou ma y burn yourself . Remov e screws, which secure Lamp Bo x f or the light. Pull out the Lamp Bo x keeping pushing lightly the upper posi- tion of it as illustrated on the left.
