Caring fo r the envir onm ent Disposal of the packing ma terial. The cardboar d box and p acking ma- terial protects t he appliance durin g shipping. It has bee n deliberately de- signed to be biodegradable and recy- clable. Pleas e dispose of these ma- terials as y ou would any othe r re cyclabl e prod ucts.
Before using for the first time Before using for the firs t time, please note th e following points . Setting the water softener (if applicable ). The water so ftener must be set t o corr e- spond to the wat er hardness in your area.
Opening and closing the doo r T o open the door . Pre ss the rel ease catch in side the door grip. If the door is opened duri ng operation, all functi ons will auto matically be inter- rupted. T o close the door . Push the b askets in. Lift the do or and push until it clicks into po sition.
W ater soft ener (Not available in US models.) The water so ftener must be set t o corr e- spond to the wat er hardness in your area. This can be o btained from your local water company or by using a test kit that can be purchased from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
Filling the salt reservoir . The salt reserv oir should be filled be- for e the first use and whene ver the “Salt” indicator lamp is lit. Use wat er softener reactivation salt (1 - 4 mm grain size), as ot her salts may co ntain insoluble additives which can impair the funct ioning of the so ftener .
Salt indicator . When the salt reservo ir is empty , the “Salt” indicator lamp w ill light, notifying you that the reservoir shou ld be refilled with reactivation salt. Note: If your water is ver y soft (below 7 gr/gal), the sa lt indicator lamp will stay on.
Adding rinse aid The use of Rins e Aid is recommended to prevent spottin g on dishes and glass- ware that nor mally o ccurs during the drying phase of automati c dishwashin g. Inadver tently f illing the rinse aid reservoir with detergent w ill always damage the reservoir .
Pour liquid rinse aid into the storage container unt il it is visible on the sur- face of the s creen. Do not refill until the “Rinse aid” indicator lamp c omes on. Only use rinse aid s pecifically labeled for r esidentia l dishwashe rs. Inadver tently addin g detergent will damage the rinse aid dis penser .
Loading the dishwas her Load the dishes so t hat wate r can reach all surfa ces. Do not place dish es and cutler y in- side other pieces w here they may be concealed. Hollow items s uch as cups and glasses shou ld be invert ed and placed in th e upper basket .
Loading examples. Bottom basket. For larger a nd heavier items such as plates, se rving platters, saucepans, and bowls. Depending on t he dish- washer model, glasses can be cleaned in the b ottom baske t if a sp ecial g lass- ware inser t is insta lled.
Cutler y Dishwashers with cutlery baske t: Unsor ted cutler y sho uld be placed in the cutler y basket , with the sharp ends down. Place small spoons in t he individual slots to either side of the cutler y bask et. Larger ite ms like sou p ladles, long knives and mixi ng spoons should be placed lying down across the f ront of the upper basket.
Utensil Inser t for the Cutlery Basket By ensuring t hat one piece of cu tlery does not rest against an other , the in- cluded Utens il Inser t will optimize th e cleaning of soiled spoons and forks . T o use the inse rts: Place one in front of and o ne behind the basket han dle by pushing them down over the not ches on the basket partit ion walls.
Dishwasher with cutl ery tray . T o make unloading eas ier , cutler y can be gr ouped i n zones, one for kn ives, one for fork s, etc. Larger items lik e sauce ladles, cake slices, l ong kn ives and mi xing sp oons can be placed lengthwise in t he trough in the center of the tray .
Adjustable cup racks. T o make room for tall glass es, raise the rack. Lower it to double stack smaller items. Coffee bar . T o allow water to run of f of the botto m of coffee mugs, place th em at a slant on top of the coffee bar .
Adjusting the upper basket. (depending on model) The upper basket heigh t is adjustable. If tall it ems of dishw are are being washed, more room can be obtained by raising or lower ing the upper basket. Pull out the upper baske t and loosen the two locknuts on either side of the basket.
Items not suitable for dish washers – Cutlery w ith wooden handles . – W ooden cutting boards. – Glued items such as old k nives with handles that are glued together around the shank of the blade. – Hand made craft items. – Copper or tin items.
Adding deterg ent Use only powder deter gents fo rmu- lated for r esi dential dishwashers. Do not use gels or liquid deter- gents. Press the latch on the detergen t dis- penser . The cover will spring open. Fill the dis penser wit h one to t wo tablespoons of powder detergent.
Choosing a program The wash program chosen shou ld de- pend on the t ype of dishes and t he de- gree of soiling. In most cases a N ORMAL program will give excellent results. The available programs and so me of their applicat ions are listed i n the Pro- gram Chart on the next two pa ges.

Operating the dishwash er T urning on. Close the door . Open the water v alve (if closed). T u rn the Program knob clo ckwise to the desired program. Select the desired temperatur e, or the "RIN SE & HOLD” program. The wash program will begin.
Program sequence indic ation. During the wash pr og ram, the p ro gram knob will mov e around the dial and show which s ection of the w ash cycle has been reached.
Unloading the dishwa sher Dishes tend to break and chip easier when they ar e hot. All ow the dishes to cool dow n until they are comfor - table enough to ha ndle before un- loading them. If the door is ope ned at the end of the dr ying cyc le, the dish es will cool much faster .
Cleaning and care Cleaning the filters in the wash cabinet. The combination filter in the base of the wash cabinet should be regu- larly inspecte d and cleaned as necessar y . Any broken glass or dishware should be removed imme- diately upon discover y .
T u rn the co mbination filte r over and open the co arse fi lter cove r by pull- ing back on the lockin g tab. After cleaning, make sure that the coarse filte r cover is properly locked in place. Replace the co mbination filter so that it lie s flat in the bas e of the wash cabinet.
Cleaning the spray ar ms. On rare occasio ns par ticles of food may get st uck in the spray ar m jets. They can be easily clea ned as follow s: T o remove the middle spray ar m lo- cated beneath the upper basket, gently push upwards until it engages in the ratchet b , then unsc rew it c .
Cleaning the drain pump and non-return valve. Use cauti on when clean ing the fi l- ters, non-retur n valve or drain pump, as glass or bone splinters may be cau ght in the bott om of the wash cabinet . If the water i n the dishwasher is not completely drained at t he end of a pro- gram, the drain pump or non -return valve may be bloc ked.
Cleaning the water in take filter . The wate r valve ho using on the inlet hose contains electrical compo- nents and sho uld not be immersed, or run through water . A filter is incorporate d in the i ntake hose that is atta ched to the di shwa- sher’ s m ain shutoff valv e.
Cleaning the wash cabinet. Generally th e wash cabinet is self- cleaning, provided that the correct amount o f dishwasher detergent is used. If lime scale or grease deposits for m, they can be removed with a s pecial dishwasher cle aner available from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
Checking the w ater level Checking the wat er leve l. If the water pr essur e is l ess than 14.5 psi (1 bar), too lit tle water may flow into the w ash cabinet. T o check t he water level, open the water valve complete ly and run the RINSE & H OLD program once (wit h- out dishes), to bring water into the system.
Increasing the water i ntake time. Position the program knob v erti- cally , then pull it off. Using a small screwdriver , tur n the adjusting slot on the right hand side of the spi ndle ca re fully cou nter clock- wise until it clicks in to positio n.
Problem solving guide With the aid of the fo llowin g notes, minor problems can be easily co r- rected. If you are unable to correct the problem, please conta ct the Miele Ser- vice Depar tment.
Accessories Bottle holder . (depending on model) A bottle holde r (for milk or baby bottles) is available fo r use in the lowe r basket. T o achieve th e proper cleaning results, the bottle holde r should only be placed in the bas ket as shown in t he illustra- tion.

Dishwasher i nstallati on The “i” mode l dishwasher is spe cially designed for installation under a con- tinuous count ertop. A panel can be custom made for inst al- latio n on the fr ont of the dis hwasher , as- suring a perfect ma tch with the kitc hen cabinetr y .
2. Installi ng the dishwasher under the countertop. It is preferable t o install the main water and electric supplies so that they can be accessed through an adjacen t cabinet, rather t han situating th em be- hind the ma chine. See t he “Plumbing” and “Electrical” section s for proper con- nection procedures before continuing.
Adjust th e rear leveling legs to the re- quired height. T o raise th e machine - turn clock wise. T o lower the mac hine - turn count er - clockwise. Several tur ns may be needed to set the correct height. A low speed electric or cor dless scr ewdrive r can also be used.
3. Installing the control pa nel. The control panel and hardware is packaged separately from the dishw asher . It should be installed using t he following procedure.
4. Aligning the control panel with the drawer fronts. The control panel can be aligned with the drawer fronts of the kitchen cabinets by adjusting the spacer bars. Using an 8 mm soc ket, turn the nut clockwise or co unterclockwise until the spacers reach the requir ed height.
Hang the bracke t on the m achine door . Slide the top edge of the te mplates under the spacer bars a nd control panel. Slide the mounting bracke t up or down until the oblong holes on the machine doo r align with th e corr e- sponding marks on the template (as shown in the le ft side of inset D .
If the adja cent cabinetry (or ap- pliance) does not have drawers and alignment to a drawer line is im - possible: Hang the bracke t on the m achine door , without the templat es, and tighten the four locking screws on the edges of th e door panel. Close the door .
Open the dishwashe r door slightly . If the locking screws on the edge of the dishwasher door can not be reached, the dishwas her will have to be pulled out of its recess a few inches.
6. Adjusting the door springs. The door springs are adjusted correctly when a half opened door remains in that position w hen released. If the door drops down, the spring ten- sion needs to be increased. If the door closes , the spring tens ion needs to decreased.
Open the dishwas her door and using fla t head screws, secur e the dishwasher to the counter top by screwing through both the mounting brackets an d the stea m deflector . Make certain th at the whi te rubber seal located at the top, outer edge of the dishwash er is tight aga inst the bottom of t he counter top.
For openings exactl y 23 5/8" (60 cm) wide: Open the dishwas her door and remove the caps cov ering the mount- ing holes on the oute r edge of the wash chamber . Fasten th e dishwash er to the ad- jacent cabinets using the supplied screws and bushings.
For kitchens utilizing the included plas - tic toekick The included toek ick will fit witho ut modific ation when : – The machine is s et to its ma ximum height (legs fully ext ended), and – the toekick is r ecesse d as far as possible (4 ").
T rimming the toekick The rear of the toekick has two cuttin g lines. Scr ew the toek ick onto th e instal led brackets, w ith the cutting lines t o- wards the to p, and pull out e venly until it aligns wit h the toekick of the adjoini ng cabinets. The toekick cannot be pushed back in.
Electrical conne ction It is the responsibility and obliga tion of the custo mer to ensur e that the electrical a nd plumbing installati on is carried ou t by a qualifi ed install er in compliance with nat ional and local codes and ordinances.
Permanent Connection (Hard Wiring). For hard wiring, the power cord must be disconn ected fr om the terminal box located at t he lower le ft front of the dish- washer , behind the toekic k and servi ce panel. Pass the per manent pow er sup- ply cable through the strain relief and secur e it to the terminal bo x.
Plumbing It is the responsibility and obliga tion of the custo mer to ensur e that the electrical a nd plumbing installati on is carried ou t by a qualifi ed install er in compliance with nat ional and local codes and ordinances.
Existin g plumb ing: If the standard 3/8" co pper plumbing for a dishwash er already exists with a compr ession fitting and valve as pic- tured: Cut the 3/8" copper tubin g after the valve. Install the 3/ 8" compression to 3/4" MHT (Male Hose Th read) adapter (supplied with the machine), as illus- trated.
Drain system specifications: The machine comes equ ipped with: – A 5 ft. lon g (1.5 m) f lexible drain hose with a n inter nal diamete r of 7/8" (22 mm). – A built-in sw ivel connec tor which allows the drain hose t o be routed in any direction.
V enti ng the drainage system Only if the dishwasher drain hose is connected to a floor drai n or to a drain pipe that is bel ow the level of the lower baskets whee ls , the drain must be vented; othe rwise the water i n- side of the dishwa sher may sipho n out during the co urse of a wash pr ogram.
