Befor e using for the fi rst time Before using for the firs t time please note the follow ing points: Setting the water softener . The wate r softener must be set to co rre- spond to the wate r har dness i n your area.
Opening and c losing the doo r T o open the door . Press the r elease catch in side the door grip. If the doo r is opened during operatio n, all functions will automat ically be inter- rupted. T o close the door . Push the baskets in. Lift the door an d push u ntil it click s into po sition.
W ate r softener The wate r softener must be set to co rre- spond to the wate r har dness i n your area. This can be obtained from your local water company or by using a test kit that ca n be purchased from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
T o set the water softener Setting the water softener for a hard- ness level of 1 - 3 5 gr/gal : T ur n the dishwasher of f. Use a screwdriver to r emove the lid of the water hardness level selector in the wash cabinet. Check th at the se lector i s set to 6 (factor y sett ing).
Setting the water softener for a hard- ness level of 3 6 - 70 gr/gal: This requires the following two st ep pro- cedure. 1. T ur n off th e dishwasher . Press th e " + " and "ST ART/Stop" but- tons while simu ltaneously tu rni ng the dishwasher ON.
Filling the salt reservoir . The salt reserv oir should be filled be- fore the first use and when the “Sal t” in- dicator lamp li ghts up. Use wa ter sof- tener reactiva tion s alt (1 - 4 mm grain size), as ot her salts m ay contai n inso- luble additiv es whi ch can impair the functionin g of the s oftener .
Salt indicator . When the salt r eservo ir is e mpty , the “ 8 Salt” indicator lamp will light, not- ifying you that th e reservoir should be refilled with reacti vation s alt. After the reservoir has been filled, the water soft ener is automatic ally reacti- vated the nex t time the dish washe r is run.
Adding rinse aid The use of Rins e Aid is recommended to prevent spot ting on dishes and glass- ware that nor mally o ccurs during the drying phase of automati c dishwash ing. Inadver tent ly filling the rinse aid reservoir with detergent will always damage the reservoir .
Pour liquid rinse aid into t he storage container until it is v isible on t he su r- face of the s creen. Do not refill until the “Rinse a id” indicat or lamp c omes on. Only use rins e aid specifically labeled for r esidenti al dishwashers. Inadver tently a dding detergent will damage the rinse aid dispenser .
Loading the dishwas her Load the dishes so that wate r can reach all surf aces. Do not place dish es and cutler y in- side other pieces w here they may be concealed. Hollow ite ms such as cups and glasses shou ld be inver ted and placed in th e upper basket .
Loading examples. Upper basket. For small, ligh tweight, or delicate it ems such as c ups, sau cers, glas ses, des - sert bowls, etc. Bottom basket. For larger a nd heavier it ems such a s plates, serving p latter s and sau cepans. Glasses shou ld only be place d in the bottom bas ket if the s pecial glas sware inser t is used.
Cutlery tray . T o make unloading ea sier , cutler y can be gr ouped i n zones, one fo r knives, one for fo rks, etc. Larger items like s auce ladles, cak e slices, long knives and mixing spoons can be place d lengthwise in t he trough in the center of the tray .
Adjustable cup racks. T o make room for tall glas ses, rais e the rack. Low er it to double sta ck smaller items. Coffee bar . T o allow water to run of f of the bo ttom of coffee mu gs, place them at a slant on top of the co ffee bar .
Adjusting the upp er basket. (depending on mo del) The upper basket heigh t is adjustable. If tall it ems of dis hware are being washed, more room can be obtained by raising o r loweri ng the up per baske t. Pull out the upper baske t and loosen the two locknuts on either side of t he basket.
Items no t suit able for di shwash ers – Cutler y with wooden ha ndles. – Wooden cutting boards. – Glued items s uch as old kniv es wit h handles that are glued togeth er ar ound the shank of the bl ade. – Hand made craf t items. – Copper or tin items.
Adding dete rgent Use only powder det ergents fo rmu- lated for re sidential dishwasher s. Do not use gels or liquid deter- gents. Press the la tch on the detergent dis- penser . The cover will s pring open. Fill the dispense r with one to two tablespoo ns of pow der de tergent.
Choosing a pr ogram The wash program chos en should de- pend on the t ype of dishes and the de- gree of soiling. In most cases the LIGH T WASH pro- gram, a NORMAL program or the IN- TENSIVE program will give excellent re- sults. The available programs an d some of their a pplications a re listed in th e Pro- gram Chart on the next two pages.

Operating the dishwasher T urning on Close the door . Open the water v alve (if clos ed). Press th e “ON/OFF” button (16). The indicato r lamps (17) n ext to t he Pro- gram Selection Buttons and the deci- mal point (19) in the dis play will be lit.
Time display (19) When the “Time left” indicat or is on, the display is s howing th e time remaining in the wa sh pr ogram. When starting a pr ogram, the “Ti me left” can v ary , even if the iden tical pro - gram has been run befo re. The calcula ted time is part ially depend- ent on the temper atur e of th e intake water .
Interrupting a pro gram A program can be inte rrupted by o pen- ing the door . If the door is then closed, the program will continue f rom the point it w as at be- fore the door was opened.
Additional fe atures Delay start (20) The star t t ime of a program can be de- layed up to 24 hours in order to tak e ad- vantage of off peak utility rates t hat exist in ma ny areas. A delay t ime of bet ween 30 minutes and 9 h ours 30 mi nutes can be se- lected in 30 minute int ervals.
Example of how d elay times ar e shown: up to 59 minutes: 5 9 between 1 hour and 9 hours - 30 minutes (example – 5 1/2 hou rs): 5. 3 0 above 10 hours: 1 5 h The program will star t aut omatically when the countdown reaches “0” and the “Delay star t” lamp goes out.
T op Solo (21 ) (for smaller amounts of dishware) When this feature is selected, the ma- jority of the water is directed to the top and middle spray arms of the dish- washer . Its use is recommended when all the dishes or cutler y needing cleanin g can be loaded into the upper basket and cutlery tray .
Unloading the dishw asher Dishes te nd to br ea k and ch ip easi er when they are hot. All ow the dishe s to cool u ntil they are comfor table enough to handle before unloading them. If the door is ope ned at the co mple- tion of the dr ying cycle, t he dishes will cool much faster .
Cleaning and c are Cleaning the filters in the wash cabinet. The combination filter in the base of the wash cabinet s hould be regu- larly inspecte d and cleaned as necessary . Any broken gl ass or dishware should be removed imme- diately upon discover y .
T u rn t he combinatio n filter over an d open the coa rse filte r cover by pull- ing back on the lo cking t ab. After cleanin g, make sur e that the coarse filte r cover is properly lock ed in place. Replace the co mbination filter so that it li es flat i n the bas e of the wash cabinet.
Cleaning the spray arms. On rare occasio ns par ticl es of f ood may get stuck i n the spray arm jets. They can be easily clean ed as follows: T o remove the middle spray ar m lo- cated beneat h the u pper basket , gently push upw ards until it engage s in the ratchet b , then unsc rew it c .
Cleaning the drain pump and non-return valve. Use cau tion when cleanin g the f il- ters, no n-return valve or drain pump, as glass or bone splinters may be caught in the bo ttom of the wash cab inet. If the water in the dishwa sher is not completely drain ed at the end of a pro- gram, the drain pump or non-return valve may be bloc ked.
Cleaning the water intake filter . The wate r valve housing on the inlet hose contain s electric al compo- nents and s hould not be immer sed, or run thr ough water . A filter is inco rporated in t he intake hose that is attache d to the dishwa- sher’ s main shutof f va lve.
Cleaning the wash cabinet. Generally th e wash ca binet is self- cleaning, provided that the correct amount of dishwash er detergent i s used. If lime scale or grease deposits for m, they can be removed with a special dishwasher cle aner available from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
Problem solving guide With the aid of th e followi ng gui de, minor problems can be e asily cor- re cted. If you are unable to correct the pro blem, ple ase contac t the Miele Ser - vice Depar tment.
Before attempting any repairs out- lined on this page, firs t: Press and hold the ST ART/Stop button until the Program Select ion indicator lamps light , then T ur n of f the d ishwasher using t he ON/OFF switch. The wash cycle fi nishes too early and the “Drain” Indicator lamp flashes – The d rain hose is kinke d.

Dishwasher i nstall ation The “i” model dish washer is specially designed for in stallation u nder a con- tinuous count ert op. A panel can be cust om made for instal- latio n on the fro nt of the dishwa sher , as- suring a perfect matc h with th e kitch en cabinetr y .
2. Ins talling the dish washer under the countertop. It is preferable to install the m ain water and ele ctric supplie s so that they can be accessed through an adjacent cabinet, rather t han situ ating th em be- hind the machine. See the “Plumbin g” and “Electri cal” section s for proper con - nection procedures before continuin g.
Adjust th e rear leveling legs to t he re- quired height. T o rais e the machine - turn clockwise. T o lower the mac hine - tur n count er - clockwise. Several tur ns may be ne eded to set the correct height. A low s peed electri c or cord less sc rewdri ver can a lso be us ed.
3. Installing the Control pa nel The control pa nel and hardware is pa ckaged separ ately from th e dishw asher . It should be ins talled using t he follwing procedure.
4. Ali gning the control panel with the drawer fronts. The control panel can be ali gned with the drawer fronts of the k itchen cabinets by adjusting t he spacer bars. Using an 8 mm so cket, turn the nut clockwis e or counterclockw ise until the space rs reach th e required height.
Hang the bracke t on the machi ne door . Slide the top e dge of the templates under the spacer ba rs and control panel. Slide the mounting bracke t up or down until the oblong holes on the machine door align with the corre- sponding mark s on th e template (as shown in the left si de of inse t D .
If the adja cent c abinetry (or a p- pliance) does not have drawers and alignment to a drawer line i s im- possible: Hang the bracke t on the machi ne door , without the templates, a nd tighten t he four lo cking screws on the edges of th e door panel.
Open the dishwasher door slight ly . If the locking screws on the edge of the dishwasher door can not be reached, the dishwas her will have to be pulled out of i ts r ecess a few inch es.
6. Adjusting the door springs. The door springs are adjus ted correctly when a half opened door remains in that pos ition when released. If the d oor dr ops down, th e spring ten- sion needs to be increased. If the doo r closes, th e spring tens ion needs to decreased.
Open the dishwas her door and using flat he ad scr ews, secur e the dishwash er to th e counte rtop by scr ewing thr ough b oth the mountin g brackets and the steam deflecto r . Make certain that the whi te rubber seal locat ed at the top, outer edge of the dishwasher is tight ag ainst the bott om of th e count ertop.
For openings exactly 23 5/8" (60 cm) wide: Open the dishwas her door and remove the caps covering th e mount- ing holes on the oute r edge of the wash chamber . Fasten the dis hwasher t o the ad - jacent cabin ets using th e supplied screws and bush ings.
For kitchens utilizing the included plas - tic toekick The included toek ick will fit w ithout modification whe n: – The machine is set to i ts maximum height (le gs fully exten ded), and – the to ekick is r ecessed as far as possible (4 ").
T rimming the toe kick The r ear of the to ekick ha s two cutt ing lines. Scr ew the toek ick onto th e instal led brackets, wit h the cutti ng lin es to- wards the top, and pull out e venly until it aligns with the to ekick of the adjoining cabinets.
Electrical conne ction It is the responsibility and obligation of the customer to ensur e th at the electrical a nd plumbing ins tallation is carried out by a qua lified installer in compliance with nat ional and local codes an d ordinances.
Permanent Connection (Hard Wiring). For hard wiring, the pow er cord must be disconnec ted from the ter minal bo x located a t the lowe r left fr ont of the dish - washer , behind th e toekick and servic e panel. Pass the per manent power sup- ply cable through th e strain relief and secur e it to the terminal bo x.
Plumbing It is the responsibility and obligation of the customer to ensur e th at the electrical a nd plumbing ins tallation is carried out by a qua lified installer in compliance with nat ional and local codes an d ordinances.
The water pressure must be betw een 4.5 and 1 45 psi ( 0.3 and 10 bar). If the water pressur e is too low the ma- chine may not take in enough water in the alloted time and the “Water Intake” in- dicator lamp will flash. If the water pressur e is too high, a press- ure r educer must be installed.
Drain sys tem specific ations: The machine comes equippe d with: – A 5 ft. long (1.5 m) flexible dr ain hose with a n inter nal diame ter of 7 /8" (22 mm). – A built-in s wivel c onnecto r which allows the drain hose t o be routed in any direction.
V enti ng the drainage system The dish washe r drain must be vented only if the drain hose is conne cted to a floor drai n or to a drai n pipe that is below the level of the bottom of the lower basket ; otherwise t he water in - side of the dishwash er may siphon out during the course of a wash program.
