2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Manual is an import ant part of your new lawn mower. It will help you asse mble, prepare and maintain the unit fo r best performance .
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES General Oper ation 1. Read this oper ator’s manual carefully in its entirety before atte mpting to assemble this machin e. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in th e manual(s) befor e operation.
4 immediately and th e blade will stop rotating within three seconds. 9. Mow in daylight or good artificial light ; walk, not run. 10. Stop th e blade when cr ossing gravel drives, walkways or roads. 11. If the eq uipment should st art to vibrate abnormally, stop the engine and check immedi ately for the cause.
5 10. Never over fill fuel tank. Fill tank to no more than ½ inch below bottom of filler nec k to provide space for fuel expansion. 11. Replace gasolin e cap and tighten securely. 12. If gasoline is spilled, wi pe it off the engine and equipment. Move unit t o another area.
6 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to determine slopes where you may no t operate safely. Do not operate your lawn mower on such sl opes.
7 SECTION 3: ASSEMBLING YOUR LAWN MOWER Removing Unit From Carton • Remove staple s, break glue on top flap s, or cut tape at carton end an d peel along top flap t o open carton. • Remove loose part s, if included with unit (i .e., grass bag etc.), and save it appr opriately.
8 • Fasten the cable to the lower handle with the t wo cable ties fou nd on the lower hand le. Pull the cable ties tight an d trim off the excess. See Figure 5. Figure 5 Attaching Starter Rope NOTE: Make certain the drive cabl e is routed around the outside and ab ove the lower handle so it does no t interfere with attach ing the grass bag.
9 SECTION 4: KNOW YOUR LAWN MOWER Read this operat or’s manual and safe ty rules before operating your lawn mower. Compare the illu stration in Figure 10 with your lawn mower to familiarize yourself with the location of various contro ls and adjustments.
10 SECTION 5: OPERATING YOUR LAWN MOWER NOTE: For shipping purposes your mower is set with the wheels in a low cutting height po sition. For best results, raise the cutting position until it is determined which height is best for yo ur lawn. See the Adjustment Section for details.
11 to slip and fall. New gr ass or thick grass may require a narr ower cut. • For a healthy lawn , always cut off one-third or less of the tota l length of the grass. Lawn sh ould be trimmed in fall as long as there is growth. IMPORT ANT : Move the shift lever only when the engine is running.
12 • Pull the le ver out and away from the mower and then move it forward or backward to another slot. For rough or uneven lawns, mo ve the height adjustment lever to a high er position.
13 SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN MOWER Cleaning Mower The underside of the mowe r deck should be cleaned after each use to preven t any build-up of debr is. If allowed to accumula te, it will cause rust and corrosion. NOTE: We do not recommend the use of pressure washers or garden ho se to clean your unit.
14 SECTION 8: SERVICING YOUR LAWN MOWER Blade Care Periodically inspect t he blade adapter for cr acks, especially if you strike a foreign ob ject. Replace when necessary. Removing the Blade • Disconnect spark p lug wire from spark p lug. • Turn mower on its side making sure that the air filter and the carburet or are up.
15 • Remove the he x bolt from the rear of un it holding the transmission to the mower ho using. See Figure 17. Figure 17 • Tilt the transmissio n forward and loosen the idler pulley bolt and lock nut half a turn. See Figure 18. Figure 18 • Using a pair of pliers, pu ll back and rotate belt keeper bracket f rom the slot on the idler pulle y.

27 Fuel And Oil Recommendations Fuel Use only clean, fresh, unleaded re gular grade gasoline. Octane Rating The octane rating of a gasoline is a measure of its resistance to "knocking".Use a m inimum of 87 oc tane of the antiknock index is recommended.

Therefore, the brake control leve r must be held against the handle wh ile the engine is started an d running.
