INSTALLATION 9 Setting the Remote Code The remote contro l supports one of three re mote codes. The default i s “Code 1”. If you have other OPPO products placed close to the BDP-80, they may ina dvertently respond to the BDP-80 re mote control. In this case you can sel ect a different remote cod e to avoid conflicts.

INSTALLATION 17 Connecting to the Inter net The OPPO BDP-80 Blu-Ray Disc Player supports the B D-Live feature offered on some Blu-ray Disc titles. BD-Live offers extra downl oadable content and additional online interactive p rograms.
INSTALLATION 18 Setting Up the Player - Easy Setup Wizar d Access the Easy Setup Wizard When the player i s turned on for the first time, an Easy Setup Wi zard screen will appear. It is a series of guided instruct ions designed to configu re the basic setting s for the player.
INSTALLATION 19 Select the Best Output Resolution One of the major advanta ges of the OPPO Blu-Ray Disc Player is its ability to play high-definition Blu-Ray video and also up-conv ert standard definit ion video stored on DVD discs to high defini tion.
INSTALLATION 20 Press the UP/DOWN ARR OW buttons to select the desired output resol ution, then press the ENTER button. The player will apply the selected output resolution and ask you to confirm the selectio n. If your TV su pports the se lected resolution, you will see a dialog box with a count- down clock.

23 B ASIC OPERA TIONS Disc Playback POWER OPEN STOP PLA Y 1 . Press the POWER button to turn on the player. 2 . Press the OPEN/CLOSE ( OPEN ) button to eject the disc tray. 3 . Place the disc with the label side facing up and the re corded side facing down.

BASIC OPERATIONS 25 Blu-r ay Disc Menu Playback TOP MENU POP-UP MENU ARROW BUTTONS ENTER COLOR BUTTONS 1. Blu-ray Discs usually contain a Top Menu and a Pop-up Menu. The Top Menu normally appears at the beginning of the playback, after the previe ws a nd copyright messages.
BASIC OPERATIONS 26 In addition to the playback time, the on-screen displa y may also contain the following information about the content currently playing: • Playback status: an icon indicating play , pause, and fa st forward/reverse status. • Bit rate meter: an indication of the bit rate of the audio and video stream.
BASIC OPERATIONS 27 NOTE Availability of languages and audi o channels vari es by disc. Some DVD-Aud io discs allow audio track selection with the AU DIO button, while others require the user to select from the audio setup menu of the disc.
BASIC OPERATIONS 28 2. The disc menu usually features interactive cont rols to turn on/off the Picture-in-Picture video and Secondary Audio Program. Please use those controls to select the desired secondary audio/video content. 3. There is a PIP button on the remote control.
29 AD V ANCED OPERA TIONS TV System Selection P/N While you may want to set the video output system (NTSC/PAL) to the same as that supported by your TV, real ize that the OPPO Blu-ray Disc Player will convert any content that is not in the co rrect format your TV understands.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS 30 The following output resolutions are avai lable: NTSC output via HDMI: Auto Æ 1080p(6 0Hz/24Hz) Æ 1080i 60Hz Æ 720p 60Hz Æ 480p Æ 480i Æ Source Dire ct PAL output via HDMI.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS 31 The following zoom levels may be useful for some special applications: 1) Playing 16:9 BD or DVD when “ TV Aspect Ratio ” is set to “ 16:9 Wide ” or “ 16:9 Wide/Auto ” • V x 1.33 – The image is vertically stretched by 1.

ADVANCED OPERATIONS 33 To shift the display position of s ubtitles, please follow these steps: 1. When playing a DVD, Blu-ray Disc or other vi deo programs recorde d with subtitles, select the desired subtitle from the di sc menu or using the remote. (Please refer to page 27 of this manual.

38 MEDIA FILE PLA YBA CK In addition to playing standard disc-base d format s such as Blu-ray Disc, DVD, CD and SACD, the OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player can play media files. You can enjoy digital music, movie s and photos stored on an optical disc (re cordable CD or DVD) or a USB drive.
MEDIA FILE PLAYBACK 39 There are four sele ctions in the Home M enu. Depending on what type of media fil es that you intend to play, you can choose among the “Music,” “Movie” and “Photo” categories. T he “Setup Menu” selection will bri ng you to the player’s Setup M enu just like pressing the SETUP b utton on the remote con trol.

42 SETUP MENU OPTIONS The Setup Menu of the OPPO Blu-ray Disc Player pr esents many setup and configuration options. For most users, the default configuration will be suffici ent and will not require any ch anges to the settings.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 43 The preceding diag ram should give a good de scription of the variou s elements and their context. In this screen we could, for example, instruct you to set the Auto Play Mode parameter to Off in the Playback Setup section.

SETUP MENU OPTIONS 48 • YCbCr 4: 2:2 – The HDMI output uses YCbCr 4:2:2 color space. Generally this is the color space that is closest to the color spa ce enc oded on the discs. (All discs are encoded in YCbCr 4:2:0 color space, and the video deco der decodes it into YCbCr 4:2:2.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 49 • PIP Mark (on/off) – To turn on/off the display of a Picture-in-Picture mark when a Blu-ray Disc with secondary video is played.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 50 To exit the Picture Adjustment menu and re turn to the Setup Menu, either select “ Exit ” or press the RETURN button. The following picture adjustment control s are available: 1. Brightness : To adjust the brightness (black level) of the video output.

If you play high resolution audio content at the 480p/576p resolution, you may get reduced audio re solution, incomplete audio channels, or even no audio/video output at all.

SETUP MENU OPTIONS 54 Multi-Channel Analog Audio to Receiver If the player is connected to an A/V receiv er through the 7.1ch or 5.1ch analog audio jacks usi ng 8 or 6 RCA cables (as describ ed in “Method 5” on page 14), you can play all supported audio format s and listen to them with your A/V receiver a nd surround sound systems.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 55 Audio Signal Reference Chart Blu-ray Discs may contain many types of audio sig nal fo rmats, some of those are of the high resol ution types such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Ma ster Audio. Blu-ray Di scs also have many op tional audio components such as the Secondary Au dio Program and menu cli cking sound.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 56 Audio Processing Setup The “Audio Processing Setup” secti on of the Setup Menu system allo ws you to configure how the player will process audio signals before se nding them to the output.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 57 Down Mix Mode Down mix is the process of converting m ulti-channel audio to a lesser number of channels. For example, converting a 5.1ch source to stereo o r c onverting a 7.1ch source to 5.1ch. Down mixing allows the audio output from the player to match t he exact number of spea kers available in your home theater.
