2 Hotw ire Re a chD SL Sys te m Coppe r pairs run from the centra l office (CO) to the cust omer prem ises (CP) to create the loc al loop . Th e local l oop terminates on t he custom er premis es at the demarcat ion point.
3 Phone Filt er Depen ding on the typ e of phone hands et and the qual ity of the home or bu siness wiring, a phone filter is recommen ded to minim ize backg round noi se during a p hone con ve rsation. An internal phone filter is inc luded with the Hotwire 63 50 ReachD SL Modem .

5 Installing the Hotwir e 6350 ReachDSL Modem Place th e Hotwire 6350 Reach DSL Modem on a flat surf ac e with clea rance f or t he rear connec tors. Proce dure 1. If a te lephone is connecte d at the R J11 wa ll jac k where th e modem w ill be insta lled, unplug the teleph one line from the w all jac k.
6 4. Use an 8-pin Ethe r net cab le for the Ethe r net connectio n. Inser t one end of the cab le into the jac k labeled ETHERNET . — Use a straight -through cab le an d connect th e other end to an Ethernet hub . (T o connect to a h ub ’ s Uplink connectio n, use an Ethe rnet crossov er cab le).
7 5. Insert the suppli ed pow er cord ’ s round end int o the jack labeled PO WER. Plug th e tra nsf or mer int o an A C outlet. The Re achDSL modem hardware install ation is no w complete . When the po wer co rd is insta lle d, th e Reac hDS L modem goes thro ugh a p ower-o n self -tes t.
8 Status LEDs All of the L EDs turn on and off during the pow er- on self -test. After a s ucces sful s elf-test, the LE Ds should ap pear as in dicated i n BOLD in the Condi tion column below . Ref er to T roub leshooting on page 9 f or LED indica tions requiri ng action.
