- 4 - Pa c k a g e C o n t e n t s The US221 A / US421 A USB 2.0 Peripheral Sw itch package contains the following items: 1 2-port (US221 A ) or 4-port (US421 A ) USB 2.
- 5 - Over view The US221 A / US421 A is a 2/4-port USB 2.0 Peripheral Switch that allows up to 2/4 computers to sh are the use of a single USB peripheral device (su ch as a printer , scanner, mass storage drive, etc.
- 6 - Fe at u r e s Enables two (US221 A ) or four (US421 A ) computers to sh are a single USB peripheral device Simple port selection via pushbuttons or easy-to-use configur ation util ity Auto Switch function – no need for a separate print server USB 2.
- 7 - System Requirements Computers The following equipment must be installed on each computer that is to be connected to the system: USB host controller Cables USB to USB cables to connect the computers to the peripheral device. Note: Only one USB T ype A to USB T ype B cable is provided in the US221 A / US421 A package.

- 9 - Rea r Vie w No. Compone nt Description 1 Lock LED Lights orange to show that the US221 A / US421 A is locked. 2 Port Selection Pushbutton(s) Pressing a Port Selection Pushbutton brings control to the computer attached to its corresponding port. See Manual Operation – Pushbutton , page 12 for further details.

- 12 - Manu al Oper a tion – Pushbut ton Note: Manual operation and the software-based configuration utility operate independently; command s from one will not override the other . US221 A To toggle the USB perip heral fo cu s between the two computers, press the port selection pushbu tton (located on the top of the unit).
- 13 - Soft ware Oper a tion Inst alling the Configur a tion Utility The US221 A / US421 A has a software-based configuration utili ty that can be used to configure the US221 A / US421 A 's settings, such as the Auto Switch fun ction, Manual Switch an d Release reminder , and sound effect s.
- 14 - Basic Oper a tion When you click on the icon in your system tray, a menu ba r of shortcuts appears. The first ite m at the top of the menu is o ne of four shortcuts, depending on th e current status of the US221 A / US421 A . Shortcut options are Lock Connection , Unlock Connection , Switch to Local Computer , and Cancel Switch Request .
- 15 - A dv anced Oper a tion and Set tings T o use the Configuratio n Utility to view and change the U S221 A / US421 A ’s settings, click on the ic on in your system tray and select Settings .
- 16 - Printers If your USB device is a pr inter or MFP (multifunction printer) a nd you wish to u se its print function, e nable the Print Function Only button and select the printer fro m the drop-down menu. Note: 1. If the USB peripheral device is a printer, you do not need a separate print server.
- 17 - Mul tifunction Printers If your USB 2.0 peripheral device is a multifunction printe r and you wish to us e its scan function, there are three ways to do this: If the multifunction printer ’s scan function have dedicated applications, enable both the Print Function Only and the Other Devices/Applications bu ttons and click Add .
- 18 - Manual Swit ch and Release If the US221 A / US421 A is operating und er manual control (with a USB 2.0 peripheral such as a storage device, for example), enable this button to set the time for a reminder to release control of the US221 A / US421 A .
- 19 - T roubleshooting First, make sure that all cables are secure ly attached and seated completely in their sockets. Problem Possible Cause Action Unit operates erratically S tatic electricity may cause the unit to operate erratically . Disconnect the appropriate USB cable from the US221 A / US421 A port, then reconnect it.
