MAIN T AIN CONTROL S Keep a good, firm grip on the pr uner with both hands w hen the engine is r unning and don’t let go.
6 Handlebar EDGER SAFETY WAR N I N G : Ins pect t he area to be edged before eac h use. R emove objec ts (roc ks , br oken glas s, nails, wir e, etc .) which can be thr own by the blade or c an wrap around the s haft. S Blade rotates momentarily after the trigger is r eleased.
7 S Throw away and replac e blades t hat are bent, warped, c rac ked, br oken or damaged in any other w ay . S Install r equired s hield properly befor e using the unit. U s e the metal s hield for all metal blade use. WAR N I N G : Only us e br ushc utter at- tachment s that pr ovide a metal shield w ith probos cis nos e.
8 S Be attentiv e when us ing the snowthrow er , and stay alert f or holes in the ter rain and other hidden hazar ds. S Make s ure the rotor will spin fr eely before attaching the s nowt hrower to the power- head. S If the rotor wi ll not rotate freely due to frozen ice, thaw the unit before t horoughly before attempting to operate under power.
9 NOTE: A one-half tw ist is built in the s houl- der s trap to allow the s trap to r est flat on the shoulder. 3. Adjust th e s tr ap, allowi ng t he hook t o be about 3 - - 6 i nches ( 8 - - 15 c m) below the wai st.

11 Genuine Poulan or Poulan PRO bar and chain oil is rec ommended to protect y our unit against ex c ess iv e wear fr om heat and fric - tion. Poulan or Poulan PR O oil res ists high temperature thinning. If Poulan or Poulan PRO bar and c hain oil is not available, use a good grade SAE 30 oil.
12 Coupler Knob LOOS EN TIGH TEN Upper Shaft Lower Attac hment 2. Press and hold the locki ng/releas e butt on. L ock ing / Releas e Button Coupler Upper S haft Lower Att achment 3. While s ec urely holding t he engine and upper s haft, pull the attac hment s traight out of the coupler.
13 PRUNING WAR N I N G : B e alert f or and guard agains t kic k bac k. Do not allow the moving chain to c ontac t any other branc hes or obj ects at the nos e of t he guide bar when pruning. Al - lowing s uc h c ontac t c an res ult i n ser ious injur y .
14 S Operat e the engine at full thr ottle. S Hold the tr immer head parallel to and abov e the grass y area. S T ap the bott om of the trimmer head lightly on the groun d one time. A pprox imately 2 inc hes (5 c m) of line w ill be advanc ed wit h each tap .
15 MAINTE NANCE WAR N I N G : Dis c onnect the spar k plug before perfor ming maintenance except for car buretor adjustments . HE LPFUL T IP IMPO R T AN T : H ave all repairs other than the rec - ommended maintenance desc ribed in the instruc tion manual performed by an authoriz ed serv ic e dealer.
16 1. C lean the cov er and the area ar ound it to keep dir t from falling into the c arburet or chamber w hen the cov er is remov ed. 2. R emove parts by pres s ing button t o re- lease air f ilter cov er.
17 TO REPLACE CHAIN : 1. Mov e ON/O FF s witc h to the OFF pos ition and disc onnect s park plug. 2. R emove bar c lamp nut. 3. R emove bar c lamp. 4. Turn adjus ting s cr ew by hand counter- cloc k wis e until adjus ting pin just touches the stop. 5.
18 CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT WAR N I N G : Keep others aw ay w hen making idle s peed adjustment s. The c hain will be mov ing during most of this pr ocedur e. Wear your protec tive equipment and obs erv e all safety pr ecautions . Aft er mak ing adjus t- ments, the c hain must not mov e at idle speed.
19 TROUBLE CAUSE REMEDY Engine will not sta rt. 1. ON/O FF sw itc h in OFF pos ition. 2. Engine flooded. 3. Fuel tank empty. 4. Spark plug not firing. 5. Fuel not reac hing carbur etor . 6. Carbur etor requires adjustment. 1. Move ON/ OFF swi tch to ON .
