3 Introduction English Introduction VPAP™ Adapt SV The VP AP Adapt S V flow generato r has been designed to be re liable, comfortable and easy to use. You can observe your treatment and mak e adjustments to settings using a keypad and LCD screen. ! CAUTION USA federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.

5 Quick Setup Guide English The following side effects may arise during a course of therapy with the VP AP A dapt S V: • drying of the nose, m outh, or throat • bloating • ear or sinus discomfort • ey e irritation • skin rashes • c hest discomfort.

8 Assembling the VPAP Adapt SV System Complete the following steps to assemb le the VP AP Adapt S V system. Make sure the area around the unit is clean (dus t free) and clear o f bedding, clo thes and any other potential blockag es. To add a hum idifier see page 10.

10 Humidifiers A humidifier may be required if you are experiencing dryness of the nose , throat, or mouth. The followi ng ResMed humidifiers are compatib le with the VP AP A dapt S V: Figure 7: Humid.
11 VP AP Adapt SV System English HumidAire 2i™ The HumidAire 2i provides heated hu midification for the VPAP Adapt SV. To attach the HumidAire 2i, remove the VP AP A dapt S V front cover and attach the humidifier docking st ation and water chamber. No other accessories are required for use.
12 HumidAire™ You will need a medium size 21" (52 cm) air tube to connect the VPAP Adapt SV unit to the HumidAire™ (see Figure 7). 1 Make sure both the HumidAire and the VP AP Adapt S V are turned off. Fill the HumidAire with water as described in the humidifier manual.
13 VP AP Adapt SV System English 5 Connect the mask system to the free end of the long air tubing. The final assembly should look like this: 6 Switch on the HumidAire and the VP AP A dapt SV . ! WARNING Make sure that the powe r cords and plugs are in good condition and the equipment is not damaged.
14 ResLink™ The Re sLink is a device that records da ta on to a SmartMedia™ card during your therapy. The card can be returned to your clinician so th at they can observe your progress and adjust flow generator parameters if nece ssary. The ResLink connects to the back of VP AP A dapt S V as shown.
15 VP AP Adapt SV System English Using DC Power to R un the VPAP Adapt SV The VPAP Adapt SV can be run on DC in case of power failure. ResMed supplies separately a converter that allows a 12 V or 24V batte ry to be connected to the DC input of the VPAP Adapt SV.
16 Using the VPAP Adapt SV ! WARNING Before starting therapy with a new mask, select the correct mask type in the Settings menu (page 21). When adding or removing a new component, such as a mask, humi difier, or anti-bacterial fi lter, perfo rm the Air Circuit Learn function (page 21).
17 Using the VP AP Adapt SV English Control Panel Functions The control panel of the VP AP A dap t S V has a keypad that allows you to: • start or stop treatment • adjust set tings on the flow generator • mute or stop alarms • vie w treatment dat a.
18 Left key (gree n) • Enters a menu. • Confirms and applie s set tings. • P erfor ms the function ind icated b y the text a bov e it in the LCD (eg, ’enter’ , ’c hange’). Right key (red) • P erforms the function indicated by the te xt abov e it in the LCD (eg, ’e xit’).

20 Menus The options available in the Settings menu will de pend on the therapy you are receiving (either ASV or CPAP ), as set by your clinician. Figure 15: Navigating the Patient men u.
21 Using the VP AP Adapt SV English Settings Menu You will only see the options relevant to your therapy. In CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mode, the clinician sets a pressure that will be constant throughout treatment. In ASV mode, the VP AP A dapt SV continually measures your breathing and regulat es the air pressure accordingly.

23 Using the VP AP Adapt SV English Mask-fit Gives a rating of how well the mask was fitting during your last session on the VP AP A dapt SV. The stars indicate how good the fit was (more stars = be tter fit). Average Pressure Provides info rmation on the average air pre ssure during yo ur most recent session on the VP AP A dapt S V .
24 Servicing Menu This menu di splays the following information: • SN—the f low generator’ s serial number • PCB—the flow generator’ s PCB num ber (PCB—printed circuit board) • SW—the version of sof t ware currently inst alled on the flow generator .
25 Alarms English Alarms The VP AP Adapt SV unit is fitte d with alarms to alert you to changes that will affect your treatment. Th e most common reason for an alarm to s ound is because the system has not been properly assembl ed.
26 Will clear when: • the low pressure condition is fixed • treatment is stopped by pressing the Star t/St op key . Power Fail Alarm Trigge red by: • pow e r failure • mac hine is disconnected or switc hed of f while delivering treatment. If a power fail alarm sounds: • the flow generator stops deliv ering air pressure.
27 Alarms English High Leak Alert Triggered by: • high mask leak (greater than 30 L/min) f or more than 20 seconds • the mask being remo ved while SmartStop is disabled. If a high leak alert sounds: • adjust the mask to minimiz e leak • c hec k that the air tube and sensor t ube are connecte d properly .
28 Will stop when: • bloc kage is remov ed. Cleaning and Maintenance You should regul arly carry out th e clea ning and maintenance described in this manual. ! CAUTION Do not wash the pre ssure senso r tube. If fluid enters the pressure sensor tube allow it to dry comple tely by hang ing it in a clean place out of direct sunlight.

30 Air Filter Inspect the air filter every month and check if it is blocked by dirt or contains holes. The filter should be replace d every six months, or more often if the flow generator is operating in a dusty environment. ! WARNING Do not wash the air fil ter once it has become soil ed.
31 T roubleshooting English Applicable ResMed warranty details are pr ovi ded with the device at the time of original supply. Of course, as with all electrical devices, if any irregularit y becomes apparent, you should exercise caution and have the device inspected by an authorized ResMed service center.
32 Glossary Alarms When more than one alarm is activ ated at the one time, the highest priorit y alarm will be displa yed. Backlight The bac klight t urns of f if no but ton has been pressed for two minutes. It can also be kept p ermanently on by selecting On in the B ac klight screen of the Options menu.
