1 Introduction English Introduction The VPAP TM IV and the VPAP TM IV ST are intended to prov ide non-invasive ve ntilation for patients with respiratory insuffi ciency or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), in the hospital or home.
2 Masks The following Re sMed mask systems are re commended for use with these devices: For information on using masks, see your mask manual. For the latest avai lable masks, see www.resmed.com. Humidifier If you are experie ncing dryness of the nose, throat or mouth, the H4i heated humidifier is recommend ed for use with these VPAP devices.
3 Using the VP AP IV and VP AP IV ST English Using the VPAP IV and VPAP IV ST Setting up your VPAP 1 Connect the power cord to the sock et at the rear of your VPAP. 2 Plug the other end of the power co rd into the power outlet. 3 Connect one end of the air tubin g firmly onto the air outlet.
4 Attaching a H4i Humidifier The H4i humidifier atta ches to the front of a VPAP IV o r V PAP I V ST device to provide heated humidificati on. These devices automatic ally detect the presence of the H4i and no other accessories are required for its use.
5 Using the VP AP IV and VP AP IV ST English Using the Menus The VPAP IV and VP AP IV ST provide a se t of functions which are arrang ed in menus and submenus. Via the LCD screen, the menus and subme nus allow you to view and change the settings for a particular function.

8 Reminders on the VPAP LCD Your clinician may have set your VPAP devi ce to remind yo u about important events, such as when to replace your mask, when to insert your Data Card (if your device is Data Card enabled ) and so on. The reminder message is display ed on the LCD and is visible if the device is not delivering therapy.
9 Using the VP AP IV and VP AP IV ST English Using the Data Card If your clinician need s to review your treatment, they will a sk you to use the Data Card to copy data from your VPAP device and return th e card to them. Copying Data onto a Data Card 1 Switch on your VPAP and wai t until you see the standby (Ramp) scree n.
10 Traveling with the VPAP IV and VP AP IV ST International Use Your VPAP flow generator has an internal pow er adapter that enable s it to operate in other countries. It will operate on power supplies of 100–240V and 50–60Hz. No special adjustment i s necessary, but you wil l require an approved power co rd for that country.
11 Cleaning and Maintenance English Cleaning and Maintenance You should regularly carry out the cleaning and main tenance described in this section. Refer to your mask and humidifier manuals fo r detailed instru ctions regarding the care of those devices.
