© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 5 deciding on component locations Some things to remember when mounting the sir en: ■ Keep it away fr om heat sources . Radiators, e xhaust manifolds , turbochargers , an d heat shi elds are all things to avoid .
6 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA ■ The hi gher the con trol mod ule is in the vehicle , the better th e tr ansmitter r ange will be . If you put the con tr ol mod ule under a seat or in side a m etal dashboard , rang e will suffer .
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 7 Things to remember when positioning the Status LED: ■ It sh ould be visible from both sid es and the r ear of the vehi cle, if possible . ■ It n eeds at least 1 / 2 -inch clear ance to the r ear . ■ It is easi est to use a small rem ovable panel, such as a switch blank or a d ash bezel.
8 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA finding the wir es y ou need Now that you have d ecided wh ere each componen t will be located, you’re g oing to find th e wir es in the car that the security system will be conn ected to.
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 9 4. T urn the igniti on key switch to the run positi on. If your meter reads (+)12V , g o to the ne xt step. If it doesn’t, probe an other wire . 5. Now turn th e key to the start positi on. The meter display sh ould stay steady , not dr opping by mor e than a few tenth s of a volt.
10 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA How to find a door pin switch trigger wir e with your multimeter: 1. Set to DCV or DC voltage (12V or 20V is fin e). 2. In most cars , fasten the (+) pr obe of your meter to (+)12V con stant. 3. Probe th e wire you suspect of bein g the door tri gger wire .
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 11 making y our connections When conn ecting the security system’s wir es to the wires in th e vehicle it is important that th e connection s ar e tigh t and no bar e wire is exposed .
12 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 1. Usin g your wire strippers and r azor knife, strip appr oximately 1 / 2 -inch of in sulation off th e wire to be con- nected to, with out cutting the wir e. 2. T wist the security mod ule’s wire aroun d the bare secti on of the vehi cle’s wir e .
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 13 primary harness (H1), 12-pin connector ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ RED/WHITE (-) 200 M A CHAN.
14 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA primary harness wir e connection guide This guid e describes in detail th e connection o f each wire . Also includ ed ar e possible applicati ons of each wir e. This system was desi gned with the ultim ate in flexibility and security in min d.
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 15 This wire pr ovides a 200 mA (-) output wh enever the tr ansmitter button(s) contr olling channel thr ee is pr essed.
16 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA Connect this wir e to the option al domeli ght supervision r elay as shown below: IMPORT ANT! This output is only intended to drive a relay. It cannot be connected directly to the domelight circuit, as the output cannot support the current draw of one or more bulbs .
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 17 This wire is used in vehi cles that have a positive (+) switched dom e light cir cuit . Connect the vi olet wire to a wire that sh ows (+)12V when any d oor is opened, an d ground wh en the door is closed .
18 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA Connect this wir e to the (+)12V igniti on wire . This wire must sh ow (+)12V with the key in Run positi on an d durin g crankin g. T ake care to in sure that this wire cann ot be shorted to the chassis at an y point.
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 19 IMPORT ANT! Never use this wire to drive anything but a relay or a low-current input! The transis- torized output can only supply 200 mA of current. Connecting directly to a solenoid, motor , or other high-current device will cause it to fail.
20 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA door lock harness (H2) wir e connection guide The system can con trol a T ype A system directly , with no additi onal parts. Th e switch will have three wires on it, and on e will test (+)12V constantly .
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 21 This system is common in m any T oyota, Nissan, Hon da, and Saturn m odels, as well as For ds with the keyless- entry system (som e other Fords also use T ype B). The switch will have thr ee wires on it, and on e wire will test groun d all the time .
22 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA Interf acing with a reversin g polarity system requires eith er two relays or one 451M (n ot includ ed). It is criti cal to iden tify the proper wir es and locate the m aster switch to interface pr operly .
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 23 In ord er for this system to contr ol one or mor e after-market actu ators, a 451M or two relays (opti on al) are need ed. V ehicles without f actory power door locks r equire the in stallation of on e actuator per d oor .
24 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA Door locks are con trolled by an electrically activated vacuum pump. Som e Merced es and Au di models use a T ype D system. T est by locking d oors from the passen ger key cylin der . If all the doors lock, th e vehicle's door lock system can be contr olled with just two relays (option al).
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 25 This system usually r equires a negative pulse to unlock, an d cutting the wir e to lock the door . In some vehi cles, these ar e reversed. I t is found in late-m odel Nissan Sentr as, some Nissan 240S X, an d Nissan 300ZX 1992-up.
26 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA on-boar d doubleguar d shock sensor Ther e is a Doubleguard ® sh ock sensor insi de the con trol unit.
© 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA 27 This wire suppli es a 200mA (-) output whenever th e button(s) controllin g Channel Four is pressed an d will con- tinue un til the button(s) is released . This output can be used to control opti onal accessories .
28 © 1999 Directed Electr onics , Inc . Vista, CA f our-pin optional sensor harness The r ed wire supplies con stant power to the opti onal sensor . The black wir e supplies groun d to the option al sensor . The blue an d green wires ar e multiplex inputs .
