Preamble The licenses for most sof tware are designed to take away you r freedom to share and cha nge it. By contrast, the GNU General Public Li cens es are intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change free sof tware to make sure the software is fre e for all its users.
The ordinary General Public License theref ore permit s such linking only if the entire combination fit s its criteria of freedom. The Lesser General Public License permit s more lax criteria for linking other code with the library .
any associated interface definition files, plus the script s used to control compilation and installation of the libra ry . Activities other than copying, distribution and modi fication are not covered by this License; they are outsid e its scope.
In addition, mere aggregation of another work not based on the Library with the Libra ry (or with a work based on the Librar y) on a volume of a storage or distribution medium do es not bring the other work under the scope of this License.
Otherwise, if the work is a deriv ative of the Library , you may distribute the object code for the work under the terms of Section 6. Any exec utables containin g that work also fall under Section 6, whether or not they are linke d directly with the Library it self.
It may happen that this requirement contradict s th e license restrictions of other proprieta ry libraries that do not normally accomp any the operating system. Such a contradiction mean s you cannot use both them and the Library toget her in an execut able t hat you distribute.
It is not the purpose of this section to induce y ou to infringe any patent s or other property right claims or to contest validity of any such claims ; this section has the sole purpose of protecting the integrity of the free software dist ribution system which is implemented by pu blic license practices.
