11 Getting Started The available functions of the remote are different depending on the disc or the situation. z Number 5, AUDIO, 2 +, and N butt ons have a tactile do t. Use the tactile dot as a reference w hen operating the player. A Z (open/close) Opens or closes the disc tray.
12 HOME Enters the player’s home menu. Displays the wall paper when pressed on the category icon of the home menu. RETURN Returns to the previous display. < / M / m / , Moves the highlight to select a displayed item. Centre button (ENTER) Enters the selected item.
13 Getting Started Step 2: Connecting the Player Do not connect the AC power cord (mains lead) until you have made all the connections. Select one of the following conn ection me thods according to the input jacks on your TV. Match the colour of the plug to that of the jack when connecting.

16 Step 3: Preparing for Network Connection If you are not going to con nect the player to a network, proceed to “Step 4: Easy Setup” (p age 17). Use a LAN cable to con nect to the LAN (100) terminal on the player. z Using a shiel ded interface cable (LAN cable), straight or crossing, is reco mmended.
17 Getting Started Step 4: Easy Setup 1 Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 and # ends on the batteries to the markings inside the battery compartment. 2 Plug the player into the mains. 3 Press [ / 1 to tu rn on the player. 4 Turn on the TV and set th e input selector on your TV.
18 Playback Playing a Disc For playable discs, see page 38. 1 Switch the input selector on your TV so that the signal from the player appears on your TV scre en. 2 Press Z , and place a disc on th e disc tray. 3 Press Z to close the disc tray. Playback starts.
19 Playback You can enjoy a Blu-ray 3D Disc with the “Blu-ray 3D” logo*. * 1 Prepare for Blu-ray 3D Disc playback. • Connect the player to your 3D- compatible devices using a High Speed HDMI Cable. • Set [3D Output Setting] and [TV Screen Size Setting for 3D] in the [Screen Settings] setup (page 28).
20 Playing from a USB Device For “Playable type s of files”, see page 39. 1 Connect the USB device to the USB jack on the player (page 9). Refer to the instruction manual supplied with the USB device before connecting. 2 Select [Video], [Music], or [Photo] on the home menu using < / , .
21 Playback To set the player to karaoke mode without connecting a microphone Press OPTIONS, select [KARAOKE Mode], and select [On]. z • The Control Me nu does not appear when there is no inserted disc o r connected USB device. • Press AUDIO on the re mote to select the soundtrack .
22 Playing via a Network Sony Entertainment Network serves as a gateway, delivering the selected Internet content and a variety of on-demand entertainment strai ght to your player. z • Some Intern et content requir es registration via a PC be fore it can be play ed.
23 Playback A DLNA-compatible product can play video/music/photo files stored on another DLNA-compatible product via a networ k. 1 Prepare to use DLNA. • Connect the player to a network (page 16). • Prepare the other necessary DLNA-compatible products.
24 To use the player as PARTY host Select a track in [Music], then select [Start PARTY] from the options menu to start a PARTY. To use the player as PARTY guest Select [PARTY] in [Music], then select the PARTY host product icon.
25 Playback [Music] only x [A dd Slideshow BGM]: Registers music files in the USB memory as slideshow background music (BGM). x [Start PAR TY]: Starts a PARTY with the selected source. This item may not appear depending on the source. x [L eave PARTY]: Leaves from a PARTY which the player is participating in.
26 Internet Browsing Websites You can connect to the Internet and enjoy websites. 1 Prepare the Internet Browser. Connect the player to a network (page 16). 2 Select [Network] on the home menu using < / , . 3 Select [Internet Browser] using M / m , and press ENTER.
27 Internet Various settings and operations are available by pressing OPTIONS. The available items differ dependin g on the situation. x [B rowser Setup]: Displays the Internet Browser settings. – [Zoom]: Increases or decreases the size of the displayed contents.
28 Settings and Adjustments Using the Settings Displays Select [Setup] on the home menu when you need to change the settings of the player. The default settings are underlined. 1 Select [Setup] on the home menu using < / , . 2 Select the setup category icon using M / m , and press ENTER.
29 Settings and Adjustments x [Out put Video Format] [HDMI] : Normally select [Auto]. Select [Original Resoluti on] to output the resolution recorded on the disc. When the resolution is lower than the SD resolution, it is scaled up to the SD resolution.
30 [Bitstream] : Select this when connecting an audio device with a built-in Dolby Digital or DTS decoder. x [DTS Neo: 6] [Cinema]/[Musi c]: Outputs the simulated multi-channel sound from 2 channel sources via the HDMI OUT jack according to the capability of the connected device using DTS Neo:6 Cinema or DTS Neo:6 Music mode.
31 Settings and Adjustments [Parental Control Settings] x [Password] Sets or changes the password for the Parental Control f unction. A password allows you to set a restriction on BD- ROM or DVD VIDEO, and Internet video playback. If necessary, you can differentiate the restriction levels for BD-ROMs, DVD VIDEOs, and Internet videos.
32 x [HDMI:Linked to TV -off] [On] : Automatically turns off the player and HDMI-compatible components when the connected TV enters standby mode (BRAVIA Sync). [Off]: Turns off the function. x [Quick Start Mode] [On]: Shortens the startup time when turning on the player.
33 Settings and Adjustments x [Conn ection Server Settings] Sets whether or not to display the connected server. x [R enderer Set-u p] [Automatic Access Permission] : Sets whether or not to allow au tomatic access from newly detected DLNA controller- compatible product.
34 Additional Information Troubleshooting If you experience any of the following difficulties while using the player, use this troubleshooting guide to help remedy the problem before requesting repairs. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
