11 Oper ati on B Operati on Using th e Dri ve Use the supplied software to read and write to CDs and DVDs. Refer to the documentation of each software for details about th eir operation.
12 Using sof tware other than the supplied s oftware (su ch as generic so ftware, shareware, or freeware) to write data to disc with this drive is not under warrant y and Sony off ers n o custom er serv ice if proble ms arise from using such software.
13 Oper ati on Comp atibl e Disc s The following discs are compatible with the drive. DVD 1) This drive is co mpatible with the DVD-R W disc displaying “ ” mark. 2) This drive can read DVD-RAM discs displ aying the “ ”mark. However, the write operation i s not supported .
14 CD Notes • O nly roun d discs sh ould be us ed with this d rive. Attemptin g to re ad odd -shaped discs (stars , hear ts, car d shap e, et c.) may d amage the dr ive. • O peratio n is not guara nteed whe n writing to or pla ying back 99 minute disc s.

17 Oper ati on About playback/reading compat ibility in DVDs DVD+R DL/DVD+R/DVD-R DL/DVD-R discs, as well as DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs created and finalized with the drive can be played back on almos t all DVD-R OM dr ives.
18 Precautions on Wr iting/Playing Discs Write speed and compatible discs • When writing data to disc at high speeds, you m ust use the appropriate type of dis c. • Configure the w riting speed through your wr iting software. For details about the setting procedures, refer to your writing software documen tation.
