INTRODUCTION Congratulations on your pur chase of the SWR 750x Bass Amplifier! Y ou now own a killer combination of massive power , easy-to-use contr ols, simply integrated onboar d ef fects… and pur e SWR tone.
750x – FRONT P ANEL FEA TURES • Dual independent input jacks compatible with both passive and active instr uments • Preamp Gain contr ol w ith r ed LED clip indicator • Aural Enhancer contr ol.
Frequency Response (power amplifier) (@ 850 watts RMS) –3dB @ 20 Hz and 40 kHz Sensitivity (full output under clipping, 8 ohms load, 100 Hz) Passive Input Jack: 62 millivolts Active Input Jack: 267 .
Impor tant: The minimum total impedance when operating the 750x is 2.6 ohms. This means you can safely use: a) A single 8 ohm cabinet b) A single 4 ohm cabinet c ) T wo 8 ohm cabinets (total: 4 ohms) d) One 8 ohm cabinet and one 4 ohm cabinet (total: 2.
when tr ying this, make sur e the Preamp Clip LED is not activated. If this occurs, tur n down your Gain control until the LED does not light. The first pr eamp tube stage is NOT monitored by the pr e- amp clip circuit for this r eason.
This r emains tr ue up to about the “2 o’clock” position. This position—a favorite for many users—brings out both the low end fundamentals and crisp highs and, at the same time, adds a little lower midrange to help cu t th r ough the band.
tion with the level of the clean “Channel One.” How do you contr ol the level of “Channel One?” By using the Gain Contr ol, which contr ols the level of the clean bass signal in the pr eamp. Also, the EQ Contr ol s ar e located after the Over drive cir cuitr y , s o they can have a drastic ef fect on t he distor ted tone.
8 • 750x OWNER’S MANUAL Pull Turbo Pulling the Bass Contr ol knob to the “out” position widens the bandwidth of the bass contr ol, and changes the center-point fr equency fr om 8 0 H z to 40 Hz. It has the ef fect of more clearly enunciating fr equencies down to 30 cycles (low “B” on a five string bass).
750x OWNER’S MANUAL • 9 The Ef fects Blend cir cuit is similar to that used on r ecording consoles with the ef fec ts l oop on a “side chain” to the nor mal circuit. Unless the contr ol is set to the full “wet” position, you will always get the full sound of your instr ument AND get the diversity an ef fects unit of fers.
Power On/Of f Switch Th is sw it ch tu r ns the complete unit on or of f. Setting the switch upwar ds to the “On” position tur n s o n t he unit, and the switch itself will illuminate in r ed.
W iring for the XLR jack at the Balanced Output is as follows: Pin 1 = gr ound, Pin 2 = + (plus), Pin 3 = – (minus) (American Standar d ) Note: T ur n of f transients appear at the Balanced Output when the amplifier is shut down.
The Ef fects Loop is compatible with most individual or multi-ef fect exter n a l e f fects devices. Many ef fects devices on the market have input level adjustments. For instance, some units have a switch that you can set for either –20 dB or +4 dB.
Preamp Out This jack provides another audio output, but it is located later in the signal chain than the Ef fects Send jack. This signal is post-EQ AND post-ef fects loop, but still befor e ( pre) the Master V olume contr ol. Y o u should use this jack when using an ef fects device in the ef fects loop and wish to achieve: 1.
Unlike power amps, ever y speaker cabinet has a pr e-deter mined impedance rating measure d in “ohms.” In most cases this rating is either 4 or 8 ohms (though ther e may still be some old 2 ohm cr eakers out ther e) . The higher the impedance of the speaker cabinet, the mor e r esistance to power it will of fer.
750x Power Deliver y Capabilities (Power Ratings) Aft er det er mining how the number of cabinets you wish to r un a f fects the total operating impedance, you need to take into account the power handling capabilities of your speaker cabinets as compar ed to what the 750x can deliver at that impedance.
Recommended single SWR Speaker enclosur es for use with the 750x include: • Megoliath 8x10 • Goliath Senior 6x10 • Big Ber tha 2x15 • Henr y The 8x8 • 12-Stack 4x12 • Workingman’s T ower.
RACK MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS T o preser ve the beauty and r eliability of your amplifier, we r ecommend that you install your amplifier in a rack case. The 750x is completely r eady to be rack mounted and needs no additional par ts or accessories other than the rack scr ews and the case itself.
