5 Quick Reference Installing New or Recharg ed Batteries Caution: T o ensure prop e r term inal operat ion, use ON L Y the Symbol Li-Ion bat tery in the PDT 7 500. T o install a new or re charged Li -Ion battery: 1. Hook the base of the new bat- tery in the top of the battery compartment, then press into place.
6 PDT 7500 Series 3. Lift the battery up and out of the b attery compartment. Charging the Batter y in the T erminal T o charge the terminal ’ s battery , place the PDT 75 00 in the cradle or conne ct the synch ronization /charging cable .
7 Quick Reference LED Indication For all c harging metho ds, the terminal’ s battery cha rging LED indicates t he battery chargin g status as follows: Operating the PDT 7500 P o wering the T erminal O n/Off Note: Before the terminal ca n be powered on, it must be ini- tialized and the battery must be fully cha rged.
8 PDT 7500 Series Contr olling the Scr een Contrast T o lighten the screen contra st, press the blue FUNC key , then the LIGHT key . T o darken the screen contrast, pre ss the FUNC key , then the DARK Key . Resetting the PDT 7500 If your PDT 7500 Seri es terminal s tops resp onding to input from buttons on the screen, you must reset it.
9 Quick Reference T o p erform a hard reset: 1. Remove the battery for 20 m inutes or longer . 2. Replace the battery in the termina l. 3. The calibration screen displays. Note: With a hard reset, fo rmats preferences a nd other settings are restored to their original factory defa ults.
10 PDT 7500 Series Using the PDT 7500 36-K ey K e ypad The 36-key key pad uses an alph anumeric keyp ad that prod uces the 26-character alphabet (A-Z), numbers (0-9), and assorted characters. The keypad is c olor -coded to indicate which modifie r key ( ALPH A , CTRL , FUNC , and SHIF T ) to press to prod uce a parti c ular characte r or action .
11 Quick Reference • Press ENTER after entering da ta or a comma nd. • Press CTRL to perform the control function. This key is u n- der app lication co ntrol.

13 Quick Reference Using the PDT 7500 25-K ey K eypad The 25-k ey keypa d produces the numbe rs 0-9, fun ction keys F1- F10 an d vari ous a ction keys. • The defaul t nume ric ke ypad pr oduc es the number s 0-9. • Press FUNC and th e correspond ing nume ric key to produce the functio n keys F1-F10 .
14 PDT 7500 Series Using the In tegrated Laser Scanner T o use the laser scanner: 1. V erify the system is on. The LED lights yellow if scanning is enabled a nd the laser is o n. 2. Aim the PD T 7500 sca n window at the bar code and p ress the scan butt on.
15 Quick Reference 1. Point the scan ner at the bar code a nd press the s can button. 2. As the raster pattern spreads, keep the pattern in th e same hor- izontal plane as th e bar code.
16 PDT 7500 Series The scan beam does not have to be per fectly p arallel with the top and bottom of the sy mbol (u p to a 4 o tilt will work). Using the Imag er T o scan a symbol: 1. Press the scan butto n and cen ter the symb ol in any orie ntat ion in the aiming pattern.
17 Quick Reference Host Communications The PDT 75 00 Series termin al can communica te with a h ost PC either dire ctly through it s commun ications p ort using an RS-232 serial cable or the cradle, or wireless ly via the Spectrum24 ® wireless LANs.
18 PDT 7500 Series run the appli c ation’ s print function. Printer commu nication ca n also be establ ished thr ough an RS -232 cable connected directly to the printer . Usi ng the T ou ch Scr een Some PD T 7500 termi nals are equipp ed with a T ouch Screen, which has software that allows th e stylus to function a s a mouse.
19 Quick Reference Scanner does not power on when t he scan button is pressed. Scanner is not enabled. See your Sy stem Administrator . Scanner does not decode a bar code. Bar code is un- readable. V erify that the bar code is not defective, i.e., smudged or bro- ken.
20 PDT 7500 Series The aiming pat- tern does not appear when the scan button is pressed. Bad cable con- nection. Check that the cable is connect- ed properly . Host power not on. Be sure the host system power is on (if external power isn’t used). Laser aiming pa- rameter n ot en- abled.
