T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 11 Quick Star t Guide T r y recording and pla yback with T ASCAM DR-07MKII. The unit contains a factory-installed microSD card, and will by default pr oduce 44.1kHz, 16-bit W A V les. Higher-qualit y or longer les can be produced using other recording settings .

T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 21 Bewar e of cond e nsatio n If the unit is moved from a cold t o a warm place, or used after a sudden temperature change , there is a danger of condensation; vapor in the air could condense on the internal mechanism, making correct operation impossible.

If you connect an external microphone or external input to the MIC/EXT IN jack on the rear panel, the built-in microphone bec omes inactive.

When a file or folder is selected in the BROWSE screen, press this button t o return to the Home Screen and play the file or the first file in the folder from the beg inning.

46 T ASC AM DR - 07MKII Co nnecting monit ors and headphones T o listen with headphones, connect them to the /LIN E OUT jack . T o listen with an external monitoring system to the /LI NE OUT jack . Usin g t he built -in microphone This unit’ s built-in microphones can be adjusted , allowing the angles of the microphones to be changed.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 47 If you open or close the microphone pair while using the built-in stereo micr ophone and the left-right channels does not suit the angle of the microphone, a pop-up message appears to ask whether you want t o swap the lef t-right channels of the microphone.
48 T ASC AM DR - 07 MKI I CAUTION Set the left-right channels of the built-in microphone to • R-L. When you are using the built-in microphone and the setting is not R-L, appears on the Home Screen. (See “Swapping the left-right channels of the built-in microphone pair” below.

52 TASCAM D R- 07MKII Set the maximum file size with the + or − button to one of the follo wing options. 64M , 128M , 256M , 512M , 1G , 2G (default) NOTE If the maximum set file size is exceeded during r ecording, • the unit will automatically continue r ecording in a new file.

T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 57 Using the Le vel Contr ol Function The level contr ol func tion for rec ording through a microphone is set as follo ws. 1 Press the RECORD [ º ] b utt on to bring the unit in recording standb y. The REC indicator will flash and the rec ording screen will appear .

T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 59 Record ing Before starting the following operation procedures , level adjustment should be completed, and the Home Screen should be open. 1 Press RECO RD [ º ] butt on to begin recording standb y. The screen show s the recording file name, the input source , the recording audio file type and sampling frequency .
60 T ASC AM DR - 07MKII NOTE T o avoid accidental recording of the noise from pressing the RECO RD [ º ] button, the star t of recording is delayed by 0.3 second (fixed) after the R ECOR D [ º ] button is pressed. (REC DELA Y ) CAUTION Noise may occur when recor ding with a microphone if the unit is too close to the AC adaptor.

62 T A SCA M DR- 07MKII Simultaneous listening to playback and input sound (Monitor Mix) This allows y ou to listen to playback and input sound at the same time (Monitor Mix). NOTE The prerecording function is disabled if the “MONITOR MIX” is “ON” .
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 63 7 Use the + or − button to select PB INPUT , and press the ¯ or Á button. 8 Use the + or - button to adjust the pla yback volume lev el in a range from 0 to 20. 9 When finished, press the (HOME) [ ª ] button to return to the Home Screen.
64 T ASC AM DR - 07 MKI I 2 While listening to the input sound, use the  or ¯ button to adjust the input level . When the  or ¯ button is pressed, a pull-up window sho wing input level settings appears in the displa y. CAUTION If the Monitor Mix function is disabled, the pull-up • window will not appear when pressing the  or ¯ button.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 65 Start the overdubbing 1 Press the REC ORD [ º ] button to set the unit to recor d standby . The over dubbing ON/OFF pop -up appears. The recor ding file name, input source, recording audio file type and sampling frequency also appear so that you can confirm them before y ou star t recording.
66 T ASC AM D R- 07MKII Record ing aut omatically ( AU TO REC) The unit starts and pauses recording, r enews les, and sets marks automatically depending on the input signal level. This function allows the unit to respond t o input sound levels and start and pause recording, as well as set marks and create new les , for example.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 67 7 Use the + or - button to select the lev el that signal is judged to hav e b een input when it ex ceeds this level. Set the value to one of the following selection. -6dB / -12dB (default)/ -24dB / -48dB 8 Press the (HOME)[ ª ] button to return to the Home Screen.
68 T ASC AM DR - 07 MKI I TIP By using this in combination with the PRE REC function, yo u ca n re c o r d e v e n t s w i t h o u t lo s i n g t h e b e g i n n i ng s o f sounds. CAUTION Overdub recording is not possible when using the • AUTO REC function.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 69 Files shorter than two seconds cannot be created . • If the name of a newly created file would be the same as • that of an existing file, the number will be incremented until the new file has a unique name. T rack incrementing is not possible when over dub recording.

T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 71 Adding marks automa tically to a recor ding This function allows the unit to add marks automatically using AUTO REC . Set the MODE to MARK on the AUTO REC screen.
72 T ASC AM DR - 07 M KII Record ing the momen t be fore pushin g REC O RD (P RE REC) By using prerecor ding, when the unit is in recording standb y you can record up to two seconds of the signal input befor e the R E COR D [ º ] button is pushed to star t recor ding.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 73 Self-timer fu nc tion Like a camera, the unit has a self-timer to trigger the start of recording after a set period of time. 1 Press REC ORD [ º ] button when stopped or playing back to set the unit in rec ording standby , and press the PB C ONT button.

If the playback ar ea has been set to FOLDER , this folder becomes the new playback area. When a folder is selected, pr ess the • Á button to return to the Home Screen.

A pop-up appears to conrm that you want to crea te a new folder . Press the Á butt on to create a new folder or press the ( HOME ) [ ª ] button to cancel .
80 T ASC AM DR - 07MKII On the Home Screen, you can use the  and ¯ buttons to select the playback track. The les that you can select are determined by the playback area setting . Limiting the playback area makes track selection easier when you hav e numerous recor ded and copied tracks on the microSD car d.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 81 3 Use the + or − button to select (highlight) AREA, and press the ¯ or Á button. 4 Use the + or − button to set the pla yback area. ALL FILES Set the playback area as all les in the Music F older on the microSD card. FOLDER (default) Set the playback area as all the les in the currently selected folder .
82 T A SCA M DR- 07MKII Selecting a folder for the pla yback area ( 1 ) Regardless of the current playback ar ea, if you select a folder on the BROWSE Screen, the playback area changes to the selected f older. 1 Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 83 Selecting a folder for the pla yback area ( 2) When the playback area is set t o FOLDER , if you select a le on the BROWSE Screen, the folder that contains the selected le becomes the playback area. 1 Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
84 T ASC AM DR - 07MKII Pla y list Y ou can make a list of tracks for playback (playlist). On the Play Mode Screen if y ou select PLAYLIST for the AREA item, you can set playback to just the tracks in y our playlist. Adding tr acks to the playlist 1 Press the MENU button t o op en the MENU screen.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 85 Editing the playlist Y ou can view and edit the playlist y ou have made on the PLAYLIST screen. Y ou can also use this screen to play tracks and to edit the playlist. 1 Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen. 2 Use the + or − button to select BROWSE , and press the Á button.
86 T ASC AM D R- 07MKII Press the Á button to remo ve all the les or the ( HOME ) [ ª ] button to cancel this operation. F or this operation, it does not matter which track you select in step 5. All the les are remo ved from the playlist, but they ar e not erased from the microSD card .
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 87 Selecting files for pla yback ( sk ip ) When the Home Screen is open, press the  and ¯ buttons to select the le for playback. If you press the  button when the playback position is located at the middle of a le, it will return to the beginning of that le .
88 T ASC AM DR - 07MKII Rewinding and fast-forwarding (search) When the Home Screen is open and a track is playing back or stopped, pr ess and hold the  or ¯ button to rewind or fast- forward and search the playback tr ack. NOTE Press and hold the  or ¯ but to n t o a cce le rat e t he search speed.

90 T ASC AM DR - 07 MKI I Repeated Playback of Selection (Loop Playback) With this function, you can continuously r epeat (loop) the playback of a selection that you make. 1 While the Home Screen is open when stopped or playing back, press the PB C ONT button to open the Playback Control screen.
T A SCA M DR- 07MKII 91 NOTE The pop-up message of “I/O T oo Shor t ” appears if the • section between the IN and OUT points is too shor t. Set them again. The section should be 1 second or longer . Press the • MARK button again to clear the IN and OUT points.
