Instructions on inserting a PCI-E card are also given. T ake note of the precautio ns mentioned in this section when installing your system.
18 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2.0.4 Precautions Component s and electronic circuit boards can be dam aged by discharges of st atic electricity . Working on a system that is connected to a power supply can be extremely dangerous. Follow the guidelines below to avoid damag e to the T ransport G T14 or in jury to yourself.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 19 2.1 Installing Moth erboard Components This section describes how to install components on to the motherboard, including CPU, memory module s and a PCI-E card. 2.1.1 Removing the T op Ch assis Cover Follow these instr uctions to remove the T ransport G T14 top chassis cover .
20 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2.1.2 Inst alling the CPU and Heat sink Follow these instructions to install the CPU and CPU heatsink. 1. Loca te the CPU socket s. 2. Remo ve the CPU socket cov er . 3. Pull the CPU lever up to unlock the CPU socket (A). Then open the socket in the direction as shown (B).
Chapter 2: S etting Up 21 4. Place the CPU on the CPU socket, ensur- ing that pin 1 is located in the right direction. 5. Close the CPU socket cover (A) and press the CPU socket lever down to secure the CPU (B ). 6. Place the air duct with heat sink on the top of the CPUs and attach with four screws as shown.
22 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2.1.3 Inst alling the Memory Follow these instructions to in stall the memo ry modules on the motherboard. 1. Locate the memory slots on the motherboa rd. 2. Press the memory slot lockin g levers in the direction of the arrows as shown in the following illustration.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 23 3. Align the mem ory module with the slot. The module has indentation s that align with notches in the slots. 4. Insert the m emory module into the slot as shown. When inserted properly , the memory slot locking levers lock automatically onto the indentati ons at the ends of the module.
24 Chapter 2: Setting Up Refer to the followin g t able s for supported DDR2 popula tions. (Note: X indicates a populated DIMM slot.) DDR2 DIMM population is alwa ys from back to front (black slot first). ❈ Populatio n order for 64-bit mode is DIMM3 first, then DIMM1 .
Chapter 2: S etting Up 25 2.1.4 Inst alling the PCI-E Card Follow these instructions to install a PCI-E card. 1. Remove the s crew securing the tab of PCI-E slot from the rear side of your G T14 B2933 system. 2. Pull the t ab of PCI-E slot on the rear side in the direction as shown to release the I/O shield.
26 Chapter 2: Setting Up 4. Insert the PCI-E card in the direction of arr ows as shown. 5. Push the t ab of PCI-E slot on the rear side in the direction as shown to secure the PCI-E card. 6. Secure the t ab of PCI-E slot on the rear side with one screw as shown.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 27 2.2 Installing the 3.5” Hard Drive The G T14 chassis kit support s up to two 3.5” SA T A hard drives without PCI-E support. One m ore 3.5” hard drive bracket is also provided in yo ur accessory box. Y ou can install a 3.
28 Chapter 2: Setting Up 3. Place a 3.5” hard dr ive into the drive bracket. 4. Use 4 HDD screws to secure the hard drive. 5. Place the assembled hard drive with bracket in the spot you picked from the G T14 chassis (A) and slide it into place (B). Make sure the har d drive is placed cor rectly as the indication shown on the chassis.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 29 6. Secure the as sembled hard drive w ith the screw rem oved in step 1 to the screwhole indi cated by “E” in the G T14 chassis.
30 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2.2.2 Inst alling a 3.5” Hard Drive (r ear location) 1. Remove the M2 083 PCI-E rise r card from the PCI-E slot on the motherbo ard. 2. Remove the Hex screw securing the 2.5” drive bracket in the G T14 chassis. 3. Slide the drive tray out (A) and lift the br acket out from the chassis (B).
Chapter 2: S etting Up 31 4. Secure the stand-off screw re moved from the “B “ screw- hole to the one indicated by “D” in the G T14 chassis as shown. 5. T ake out the supplied 3.5” hard drive bracket from the accessory box. 6. Place a 3.5” hard drive into the driv e bracket.
32 Chapter 2: Setting Up 7. Place the assembled hard drive with bracket in the spot you picked the 2.5 ” hard drive bracket from the G T14 chassis (A) and slide it into place (B). 8. Secure the as sembled hard drive w ith the screw rem oved in step 2.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 33 2.3 Installing the 2.5” Hard Drive In addition to the installation of 3.5” hard drive, you can also install a 2.5” hard dr ive from either the front or rear of the G T 14 chassis. Follow these instru ctions to install an internal SA T A hard d rive.
34 Chapter 2: Setting Up 3. Secure the stand-off screw re moved from the “E “ screw- hole to the one indicated by “C” in the G T14 chassis as shown. 4. Place a 2.5” hard drive into the 2.5 ” drive bracket. 5. Use 4 HDD screws to secure the hard drive.

Chapter 2: S etting Up 39 2.4 Installing Dual 2.5” Hard Drives (Option) The G T14 chassis kit supports up to four inter nal SA T A hard drives. Y ou can also install dual 2.5” ha rd drives from eith er the front or rear o f the G T14 chassis. Follow these instructions to install a dual 2.
40 Chapter 2: Setting Up 3. T o proceed with the dual 2 .5” hard drives installation, you need to purchase the 2.5” HDD dual bracket kit (CHDT01 10) and add itional cables. 4. Place the two 2.5” hard drives into the 2.5” dr ive bracket (dual type).

44 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2.4.2 Installing Dual 2. 5” Ha rd Drives (r ear loca tion) 1. Remove the screw securing the 2.5” drive bracket ( single type) in the G T14 chassis. 2. Slide the drive tray out (A) and lift the br acket out from the chassis (B).
Chapter 2: S etting Up 45 4. Place the assembled hard drive with bracket in the spot you picked the 2.5” hard drive bracket (single type ) from the G T14 chassis (A) and slide it into plac e (B). Make sure the hard drive is placed correctly as the indication shown on the chassis.

48 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2.5.1 Installing the Server in a Rack (with Rail k it A) Follow these instructions to mount the G T14 into an industry standa rd 19" rack. NOTE : Before mounting the T ransport G T14 in a rack, ensure that all internal component s have been installed and that the unit has been fully tested.

50 Chapter 2: Setting Up Installing Outer Rails to the Rack 4. Measure the d istance between inner side of the front and rear mounting bracket s in the rack. 5. Reserve the distance same as in step 4 on rear racket. Secure the rear bracket to outer rail with 2 M4-4L(A) screws.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 51 Rackmounting the Server 7. Draw out the middle rails to the la tch position. 8. Lif t the chassis and then insert the inner slide rails into the middle rails. 9. Push the chasis in and press the latch key (A). The n push the wh ole system into the rack(B).
52 Chapter 2: Setting Up 10. Secure the mou nting ears of chassis to the rack with one M4-15L(F) screw for each side. NOTE : T o avoid injury , it is strongly re commended that two people lift the G T14 into the place while a third per- son screw s it to the rack.
Chapter 2: S etting Up 53 2.5.2 Installing the Server i n an Open Rack (with Rail kit B) In addition to rackmounting the G T14 in a 4-post rack, you can also mount it in a 2-post rack. Y o u must use rail kit B to mount the G T14 in th is type of rack .
54 Chapter 2: Setting Up 2. Lif t the chassis and secure the mounting bracket s to the front of rack using 3 M5-8L(D) screws for each side. NOTE : T o avoid injury , it is strongly re commended that two people lift the G T14 into the place while a third per- son screw s it to the rack.

Chapter 3: Re placing P re-Installed Components 77 3.8 Replacing the Power Supply Follow these instructions to repl ace the power supply in your G T14 B2933 system. 1. Remove the top chassis cover . See “3.3 Removing the T op Chassis Cover” on pag e 66 for more details.

79 Appendix I: BI OS Differences The BIOS of B2933 is simi lar to the BIOS of S2933. However , there is something di fferent. Y o u may refer to the attached motherboard manual for th e complete BIOS information. The diffe rence between B2933 and S2933 is on the submenu “Hardware Health Configurati on” under “Advanced” m enu.
