STEP 1: I NSTALLING THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 5 3. F ollo w the instructions on the screen to install the P aperP ort software on your computer . Later , after the scanner is working, you can install the other applications pr ovided on the CD. 4. During installation, a message will tell y ou to connect the scanner to the computer .

STEP 2: C ONNECTING THE S CANNER TO THE C OMPUTER 7 When you plug the scanner ’ s power adapter into a wall outlet an amber light on the front of the scanner comes on indicating that the scanner is receiving po wer . The light remains amber until the scanner and computer are communicating pr operly .

T HREE W AYS TO S CAN 17 P art 2: Scanning T HREE W AYS TO S CAN Y ou can scan items by pressing a O neT ouch button, clicking a button on the screen, or fr om the P aperP ort software (or other T wain software). • Scan with the Scanner B uttons P ress a button on the scanner ’ s front panel.

20 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE A BOUT THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS The OneT ouch buttons are pr e-configured to scan items at v arious settings, and then send the scanned image to a pr e-selected softwar e application. Y ou can change the settings for each button except the S top/Cancel button.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 21 C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS Each button setting can be changed to optimiz e the scanner for the type of scanning you want to do . T o change a button ’ s settings: 1. P ress and hold do wn the button that y ou want to change (except the S top/Cancel button).
22 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 2. Click the tab of the button you want to change, if it isn ’ t already selected. 3. Scroll the list of A pplication to Send Scanned D ata T o and click the new application you want to use to view and wor k with the scanned image.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 23 If you want to select a confi guration prior to scanning, click the option, Configure befor e Scanning. Then, when you press a scanner button, the V isioneer Scan M anager appears first and you can select a configuration before scanning.
24 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE A DJUSTING S CAN S ETTINGS AND P AGE S ETTINGS If you ’ re scanning using a scan configuration that you define y ourself, you can adjust that configuration ’ s scan settings and page settings.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 25 3. If you hav en ’ t defined a configuration yet, click the New button to create a new configuration. Y ou can also select one of the predefined configurations and then click the Copy button to copy it. 4. Click the Edit button.
26 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE Resolution —D rag the slider to the right or left to adjust the dots per inch (dpi) of the resolution. The maximum resolution is 600 dpi, the minimum is 50 dpi. The higher the dpi setting, the sharper and clearer the scanned image.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 27 distorted or wavy appearance. The scanner scans the item to compensate for the patterns and dots, and pr oduces a clearer image. The scanning may slo w down a bit when this option is selected. Y ou don ’ t need to select this option when scanning photographs.
28 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE Instead of using the scanner ’ s buttons, you can scan dir ectly from the P aperP ort software. This is particularly helpful when you ’ re using P aperP ort to file and save your scanned items.
S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 29 S CANNING AN I TEM WITH THE T WAIN B UTTON The following pr ocedure pro vides the basic steps for scanning an item using the T wain button in the P aperP ort software. Y ou can scan many types of items, from small business car ds to A4-siz ed pages.

Scan P age F or —Select one of these pr e-set options if y ou want to use it for scanning. These options are optimized for the v arious uses of scanned images, such as scanning for editing text or scanning in color .
S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 31 Res —This is the resolution setting for the scan in dots-per- inch (dpi). The higher the dpi, the sharper the image. But higher dpi settings also produce larger fi les sizes. U sually the higher resolution settings ar e used for precision wor k, such as photographs or fine artwork.
32 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 8. When you ’ re satisfied with the image settings, click the Scan button. The scanner now r e-scans the item and displays the final image as a thumbnail on the P aperP or t Desktop .

F or example, a note written with a light pencil may need to be scanned darker to impr ov e legibility .

See the H elp information for mor e details about the A dvanced S ettings dialog box. C LEANING THE S CANNER G LASS Scanning items that have ex cessive amounts of dirt or dust may dirty the glass.
