Some modems have a batter y backup; this will need to be disconne cted at this time as well. Connect your Router to your modem using the c able ( already at tached) .

4 GET TING ST ARTED If the page does not load, then tr y visiting http:// 192. 1 68.2. 1 to see the router homepage. Click the “Detect my connection” button in green. (If you would rather set up the Router manually, click the “s et i t up m an ua ll y ” li nk a nd p ro ce ed to page 10.

6 GET TING ST ARTED At th e ne x t sc re en yo u wi ll b e in vit ed t o ch an ge yo ur network name and password. Re- using your previous network name (SSID ) and password makes connecting your existing devices to the new router much easier . If you decide to change these settings, then enter the new v al ues and c lic k “ Save and C ont in ue.
7 GET TING ST ARTED Please take this opportunit y to register your Router . This will help technical suppor t if there is a problem with your Router . Simply complete each of the required fields and click “Complete Registration. ” If you don’t want to register right now, click “Register Later” to proceed.
8 GET TING ST ARTED At the next screen you can download optional soft ware that was bundled with your Router . This s creen shows you optional soft ware that is available for your Router , such as the USB soft ware to allow you to p rin t th ro ug h th e Ro ute r’s US B po r t.

10 GET TING ST ARTED Manually Set Up Y our Internet Connection Use a browser to visit http:/ /router / . Y ou can also tr y visiting http:/ /1 92. 168.2. 1 / . Th e Router’s Welcome page should appear . Click the “Set it up manually” link. Please select the type of connection your ISP provides.
11 GET TING ST ARTED If you decide to change these settings, then enter the new v al ues and c lic k “ Save and C ont in ue.” (Not e: Th e passw ord must be at least 8 charact ers long. ) If you changed your network name and passwo rd, make note of it on th e se r vi ce card loca ted on t he foot of t he Route r .

14 GET TING ST ARTED Congratulations! Y ou are now at your Router’ s dashboard. Y ou r Rou te r is n ow s et up and re ad y to u se. The status of your Internet connection is shown in the upper lef t corner of the Router’s homepage. If it does not say “ Online, ” troubleshooting information will be displayed.
15 GET TING ST ARTED Manually Configurin g Y our Router ’s Internet from the Dashboard T o set up your ISP connec tion manually, select “ISP Connection T yp e” f rom the li st u nd er t he h ea de r “ WAN Set t in gs .
16 GET TING ST ARTED Dynamic Connection Cable and fiber customers generally require a dy namic conne ction. Some DSL customers require a PPP oE connection. Let’s try dynamic first. Select “ Dynamic” from the menu that appears and press “Nex t.
17 GET TING ST ARTED A host name is generally not required. Hit “ Save .” The Router will restar t. If a f ter a f ew mi nu tes your In ter ne t St at us s ays “O nl in e,” y ou’r e do ne! You ca n su r f th e In ter ne t. If t he se s tep s do not wor k, tr y re st ar t ing your modem and repeating the process.
18 GET TING ST ARTED PPPoE Connec tion Some DSL customers require a PPPoE connection. Select PPPoE this time and press “Next.”.
19 GET TING ST ARTED Enter the username and password supplied by your Internet provider and click “ Save .” Ignore the other fields unless required by your ISP . The Rout er will restart. If a f ter a f ew mi nu tes your In ter ne t St at us s ays “Connected, ” you’r e done! Y ou can sur f the Internet.

Once connected, you can share files and music with other computers and devices within your net work. Plug your USB hard drive into the USB por t on the back of your Router .

38 USING Y OUR ROUTER 38 Updat ing the Router ’ s Firmware via t he Web In ter f ace The following steps show you how to update your Router’s firmw are using its web interface. Y ou do not need to be connected to the Intern et as this interface is built into the Router itself.

A second prompt will open telling you the Router will not respond during the upgrade and warning you not to remove th e pow er s upp ly from t he R ou ter.
41 USING Y OUR ROUTER Resetting the Router Re se t Bu t ton – R ed The “ Reset ” but ton is used in rare cases when the Router may function improperly . Resetting the Router will restore the Router’ s normal operation while maintaining the programmed settings.
42 USING Y OUR ROUTER Re stori ng t he Ro ute r to Def aul t Set t ing s Usi ng th e Web Inte r fa ce Symptoms Y ou need to restore the facto r y defaults using the web interface. This may be because the Router is not performing as expect ed or you wish to remove all previously configured set tings.
