Ele ct rica l R equir em ents NOTE : All outdoor wiri ng must be suitable for outdoor u se. Use copper conductors only . ■ All field w iring must be don e in accordance with National Electrical Code requirements, ap plicable requirements of UL, or local codes, where applicable.
1. Discon nect powe r . 2. Remove the refriger ant from the existing system per the manufacturer’ s in structions provided with the recovery system bei ng used.
17. Inst all the val ve cores. 18. Install the R-410A thermal exp ansion valv e specified for t his system in the indoor coil. NOTE : R-410A s ystems use only thermal ex pansion valv es. 19. Pressurize the line s and indoor coil with a pressure not to exceed 20 ps ig.
6. Tighten to 20 to 3 0 ft lbs. Use backup wrench on all wr ench flats. NOTE : Overti ghtening may c rush the T eflon ® seal and c ause a leak. 7. Connect the ext ernal equal izer line to the equa lizer port on the suct ion line. 8. Tighten to 8 ft lbs.
Normal Op erating Pressures NOTE : V alues p r ovided in ch art are typical pressures. Indoor un it matchup, ind oor air quality and indoor load will cause pressures to vary .
Suction Line Sizes Installa tions exceed ing 100 ft are not recommended. Liquid Line Si zes Installa tions exceed ing 100 ft are not recommended . Make Elect rica l Connectio ns IMPORTANT: ■ Electrical wiring, disconnect means and over -current pr otec tio n ar e to be su ppli ed by the i nst aller .

Outdoor Unit T ypical Wiring Diagram Complete Installat ion 1. Operate the heat pu mp for a period of at leas t 15 minutes to allow for pressures and te mperatures to stabil ize. 2. If heat pump doe s not appear to be fu nctioning correctly , have heat pu mp checked by a person cert ified by the EP A to handle refrig erant.
SEQUENCE OF OPERATION Cooling C ycle Upon cooling demand, the the rmostat closes circuit R to O an d Y . Closing R to O and Y ener gizes the reversing valve for cooling operation and closes the heat pump cont actor , starting the compressor and outdoor fan.
Time Delay The time d elay is 5 minut es long. The delay helps to p rote ct the compressor from short cycling in case the power to t he heat pump is int errupted or a pressure switch opens. The d elay is bypassed by placing the t imer select jumper across th e TEST pins f or 0.
2. Remove the heat er compartment acc ess panel. 3. Adjust the time period between defrost cycle s by placing t he defrost time plu g in t he proper positio n. See “ Defrost Control Board.” ■ For 30-minute intervals betw een defrost cycles, connect the Defrost Time Settin g Plug to the pins corr esponding to 30.
TROUBLESHOOTING Heat Pump Fails to Operate Properly Review “Sequ ence of Operatio n” and visuall y inspect th e heat pump befor e troubleshooting: System Diagnostic Module W4GH6 heat pumps c ontain a diagno stic module for troubleshootin g heat pump system fail ures.
24 V AC Power Wiring The di agnost ic module r equires a const ant nomin al 24 V AC power supply . The wiring to the module’ s R and C terminals must be directly from the indoor unit or thermost at. The module cannot be pow er ed by R an d C te rminals o n the defr ost b oar d wi thout experienci ng nuisance ale rts.
Incorrectly Wired Module Codes Depending on the s ystem configuration, some Alert flash codes may not be act ive. The presence of safet y switches affects how the syst em alerts are display ed by the module. Incorrectly wiri ng the diagnostic modu le will cause false LED codes.
