7 Introduction: Read Me Who Should Use This Guide This WorkCentre 7 655/7665/7675 Sy stem Administrator’s Guid e ha s been created to assist Experienced System Administrators in installing th is device on a variety of networks.
8 Enable TCP/IP and HTTP at the device 1. Looking at the Configuration Repor t, verify whether the addressing shown under TCP/IP Settings will enable this device to commun icate over your networ k. Also, verify that HTTP is enabled under HTTP Settings, to en able use of the device's web User Interface for network and options configuration.
9 Configure additional purchased options Refer to the Options section of this gu ide and follow the instructions provided Note: If you are installing multiple machines on your network, you ma y find the C lonin g feature useful. This feature enables yo u to copy a nu mbe r of co nf iguration settings from one machine to anoth er.
10 Physical Connection Power Cable Ensure the machine is connected to a suitable power su pply and that the power cord is fully plugged in to the electrical outlet.
11 The Welcome Page and Install Wizards An Installation Wizard displays the fi rst time the machine is powered on, providing the ability to set the date and time. Simultaneously, a Welcome Page is en abled as the op ening page of th e machine's Internet Services web pages.
12 Ethernet Configuration Ethernet Cable 1. Press th e Power O ff button to turn the machine off. Observe th e network activity light on the Controller until it goes out (the Contr olle r shuts off) .
13 To Change the Ethernet Speed, if needed 1. Go to a networked workstat ion, open a Web brow ser application, enter the TCP/IP addre ss of th e machine in the Address bar, and pr ess Ente r. 2. Select the [Properties] tab. 3. Enter the Administrator User name and password if prompted.
14 USB Printing USB printing is an optional feature available for the Wor k Centre 7655/7665. The USB Printer Port can be used fo r printing directly from a laptop or workstatio n connected via a USB cable. USB printing from Windows XP and 2000 are su pported .
15 Parallel Port Printing Parallel port printing is an optional feature availabl e for the WorkCen tre 7655/7665/7 675. The Paral lel port is located on t he optiona l USB card, t hat fits into o ne of the available PCI s lots on th e Network Co ntroller, at the back of the machine.
16 General Setup Set a Description for the Machine The CentreWare Intern et Services Pr operties Descr iption page contains info rmation that identifies a specific machine model, name and physical loca tion. At your Workst ation 1. Open your web browser an d enter the TCP/IP address of the machine in the Address or Location fie ld.
17 Configuration Page The Configuration page allows you to view machine setup details, for examp le Network Setup and Network Scanning Setup. These details can also be printed by selecting the Print Configura tion Page button.
18 Configuration Report The Configuration Report details the ma chine softwar e versions and network settings configured for the machine. The Configura tion Report au tomatically prin ts when the machine is reb ooted or powered on. The report can be printe d at any other time by following th ese instructions.
19 Administrator T ools Password The Administra tor password is ne cessary to access th e administrato r tools function bo th from the machine touch scree n and Cent reWare Inte rnet Services. Ac cess to the administrator tools is necessary to configure the machine, networ k connectivity and optional settings.
20 Image Settings The Image Settings screen allows you to set prefere n ces for the various file form ats that the mu ltifunction device is capable of creatin g when featur es such a s Ne twork Sca nni ng, E-m ail, an d Internet Fa x ar e used at the device.
21 Flate Compression Select Enable d or Disabled . Flate is a lossless comp ression a lgorithm ba sed on two other algor ithms: Huffman compression and LZ77 (the first LZW).
22 Scan to Searchable File Formats The optional feature provid es Network Scanning, E-mail, and Internet Fax users wi th the ability to choose [Searchabl e] as an option fo r the their PDF , PDF/A, or XPS f ile formats. The Se archable For mat provid es a second la yer of data with the tex t of the sc anned doc ument.
23 Accessing Network Sc anning, E-mail, or In ternet Fax Settings At your Workst ation 1. Open your Web Browser and enter the TCP/IP addres s of the machine in the Address or Location field and press [Enter]. Your Browser will display the mach ine H ome Page.
24 Alert Notification In the Alert Notification section you can set up groups to notify (by e-mail) when problem s occur on the machine. To Set up an Alert Notification Group At your Workst ation 1. Open your Web Browser and enter the TCP/IP addres s of the machine in the Address or Location field and press [Enter].
25 Billing Meter Read Alerts Using this dialog, System Administrators can set up an e-mail noti fication to the designated Billing Administrator whenever billing meters are au tomatically read by the Meter Assistant. To Set up a Billing Meter Read Alert At your Workst ation 1.
26 Local UI Alert s System Administrators can set up the local UI to wa rn users that the scan disk is running low on memory, potentially impacting system performan ce and/or causing job loss.
27 Billing and Counters The Billing and Counters page provides the B illing information for t he machine, including number of impressions pr int ed or copie d. At your Workst ation 1. Open your Web Browser and enter the TCP/IP addres s of the machine in the Address or Location field and press [Enter].
28 SMart eSolutions SMart eSolutions provides Xerox customers with a setup page to guide you through the steps requir ed to configure the device for automatic me ter readings.
29 Set Permissions for Job Management The Job Management page allo ws you to set permissions that allow System Administrators or general (non-administrator ) users to delete jobs from the machine print que ue. NOTE: System Administrators can al ways de lete any job, regardless of th e setting selected on the Job Management Page.
30 Cloning Cloning is available with the WorkCentre 7655/7665/7675. Configuration Cloning enables you to conven iently copy the settings and we b-generated scan templates of one machin e and tran sfer them to other machines o p erating with the same version of system software.
31 The Banner Sheet When documents are se nt to print at the machine, a ba nner sheet is printed ide ntifying the P C that se nt the print job. It is possible to disa ble this setting both within the printer driver and fr om the machine administrato r tools.
32 Saving and Reprinting Jobs The Save Job f or Reprint fe ature allows users to stor e pr int jobs on the device from their print driver, or the Print page of Internet Se rvices, then select the job fr om the device’s User Interface for reprinting.
33 Restore Saved Jobs 1. Select [Backup Jobs] to restore saved jobs stored on a repo sitory. Note that the following will happen wh en Saved Jobs are restored. All current Saved Jobs data will be immediately deleted. The re store process may take considerabl e time to comp lete depending on how many files were backed up.
34 Online / Of fline The Online/Offline window allows the System Administrator to stop and resume the system fro m receiving or sending jobs over the network. At the Machine 1. Press the [Log In / Out] butt on to enter the Tools pathway. 2. On the keypad enter [admin], then [1111] or th e curr ent password.
35 Auditron The Auditron is a fe ature of the machine which automatically tracks copy usage for anal ysis and billing purposes. There are two types of Auditron, an Intern al Auditron and an External Auditr on called Network Accounting.
36 Auxiliary (Foreign Device) Interface Kit A third party access and accounting device such as a coin operated device or a card reader can be attached to the machine.
37 SNMP It is possible to remotely define and modify GET, SET, and Trap SNMP (Simple Netwo rk Management Protocol) community names for the ma chine. You can also configure SNM P trap destinations for TCP/IP and NetWare (IPX) that will receive tr aps from any mac hine on the network.
38 Software Upgrade via Network Connection WARNING: This procedure will delete any curren t jobs i n the machine print queue and prevent further jobs from printing until the upgrade has completed. If you wish to prese rve these jobs, allow them to complete before upgrading your software.
39 16. Enter the curre nt adminis trator tools User Na me and Password. The default is admin and 1111. 17. Note the cu rr en t sof twa re leve l in the Last Successful Upgrade box. 18. In the Manual Upgrade box select [Browse] to lo cate the software upgrade file obtained earlier.
40 Software Upgrade: Auto Your device can be set to automat ically schedule machine softw are upgrades from a central server. WARNING: This procedure will delete any curren t jobs i n the machine print queue and prevent further jobs from printing until the upgrade has completed.

42 Protocols NetW are Configure NetWare Se ttings 1. Open your Web browser and enter the TCP/IP add ress of the machine in the Address or Location field. Press [Enter]. 2. Click the [Properties] tab. 3. Enter the Administrator User name and passwo rd if prompted.
43 NetWare Directory Services (NDS) 16. If using NetWare NDS (NetWare Directory Servic es), enter a directory tree and context for the machine in [NDS Tree] and [NDS Context] in the Ne tware Directory Services (NDS) box. Note that you can also sele ct the IP A ddress or Host Name radi o buttons to specify the server used in the IP environment.
44 Windows 2000 Configure TCP/IP and SLP Settin gs 1. Open your Web browser and enter the TCP/IP add ress of the machine in the Address or Location field. Press [Enter]. NOTE: TCP/IP and HTTP should have been initially configured per the Introduction: Read Me of this guide.
45 DNS Configuration 12. Enter an IP address for the [Pre ferred DNS Server]. Enter an IP addre ss for [Alternate DNS Servers 1] and [2]. 13. Check the box to enable [Dynamic DNS Reg istration (DDNS)]. NOTE: If your DNS Server does not support dynam ic updates ther e is no need to enable DDNS.
46 Configure Raw TCP/IP Printing NOTE: TCP/IP must be enabled bef ore Raw TCP/IP Printing is enabled. Raw TCP/IP is a printing method used to open a TCP so cket-level connectio n, over Port 9100, to s.

78 CUPS The Common Unix Printing System ( CUPS) wa s create d by Easy Software Pr od ucts in 199 8 as a modern replacement for the Be rkeley Line Printe r Daemon (LPD) and A T and T Line Printer ( LP) system designed in the 1970s for printin g text to line printers.
79 Enable Port 9100 as additional support for HTTP (IPP) print ing 1. Open your Web browser and enter the TCP/IP add ress of the machine in the Address or Location field. Press [Enter]. 2. Click the [Properties] tab. 3. Enter the Administrator User name and passwo rd if prompted.
80 Installing CUPS on th e UNIX workstat ion The instructions for installing a nd building CUPS are contained in the CUPS Software Administrators Manual, written and cop y righted by Easy Softwar e Products and available for downloading at www.cups.org/documenta tion.
81 Adding the Xerox printer 1. Use the PS command to make sure that the CUPS dae mon is running. The daemon can be re star ted from Linux using the init.d script that was cr eated when the CUPS RPM was installed. The command is > /etc/init.d/cups rest art.
82 AS400 AS400 Raw TCP/IP Printing to Port 9100 (CRTDEVPRT) Purpose This is the procedure to set up printin g to a multif unction device fr om an AS/400 using the SNMP drivers. Assumptions This procedure is intend ed for users familiar with the AS/400 s ystem, especially those experienced with printing in an AS/400 environment.
83 To create an SNMP trap 1. Open your Web browser and enter the TCP/IP add ress of the machine in the Address or Location field. Press [Enter]. 2. Click the [Properties] tab. 3. Enter the Administrator User name and passwo rd if prompted. The default is [admin] and [1111].
84 To identify th e trap To identify the trap, create a de vice description from your terminal's command line. 1. Select the F-4 key to prompt the CRTDEVPRT command. Enter the following parameters: Device Description: Xeroxprinter Device Class: *lan Device Type: 3812 Device Model: 1 2.
85 AS400 Printing using LPR (CRTOUTQ) Creating a remote qu e ue (LPR) on th e AS4 00 At the comm and line, issu e CRTOUTQ and press F4, then F 9 for addit ional para meters.

88 Windows Add Printer Wizard Go to the Windows 2000 Server 1. At the D esktop, righ t mouse click the [My N etwork Pl aces] icon an d select [P roperties]. 2. Right mou se click on th e [Local A rea Connec tion] icon an d select [P roperties ]. 3. Verify that the [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] protocol has been loaded.

96 Create a New Print Queue on Windows XP: 1. Obtain the Prin t Driv er for your operating system. 2. Verify that Print Servic es fo r Unix is loaded: from the [Sta rt] menu, select [Control Panel]. 3. Double-clic k [Add/Rem ove Progra ms]. 4. Select [Add/Remove Windows Componen ts].
97 17. You will be prompted for a printer driver. Select [Have Disk] and browse to the location of your printer drivers. 18. Select the [.INF] file then click [Open]. 19. When the Install from Disk screen appears, ver ify t hat the path and file name are correct, then click [OK].

99 Instructions f or 9.x. 1. Double-click installe r file to install the printer driver on your Macintosh. 2. Click [Continue] 3. Click [Agree] to accept the License Agreement. 4. Click [Install]. 5. Your Mac may need to be restarte d. Click [Yes] to continue.
